Actually apple is known for making the most out of very little. they can make that 256MG seem like 500MB. but even then it is behind by a lot. Having the opti drive removed as an option i would only accept for the 13" personally. but even then there's an AIR. what you really want is the 2011-12 MBA with i hope i3. im no fan of core 2 duo on any machine.

OMG!!! Awesome! I would go out and buy one like right now if I could. I like the white on black contrast for the keyboard as well. Though the battery indicator lights should be a little smaller but still it is a really great mock-up. Probably one of the best I've seen so far. This is simply an idea, but perhaps the keys are phosphorescent so they do not need the backlit keyboard anymore saving more space? That would bee cool.

Just an idea but another alternative to SD is an SD USB http://www.dpreview.com/news/0501/05010606sandisksdflip.asp. It would be cool if my local bestbuy carried these...

EDIT: Call it the BlackBook Pro

hahaha i'm glad you like it man! :D
i'll edit the ind. lights asap and re-upload it, that would be amazing, but phosphorescent paint looses its glow after a while, what if on this macbook the keys let up to contrast the dark letter instead of vice versa? I think that'd be pretty cool

But what I really want is a good graphics card with 1gig of memory for it. This 256mb is way behind the times and Apple knows it, even the half gig in the current 17 inches is weak. The Macbook Pro is supposed to be a high end, professional laptop and is priced as such. They need to get on par with every other performance laptop and put in dedicated graphics with 1 gig of memory.

It's not that Apple doesn't want to give you more GB of GPU RAM. Those RAM chips cost money & including more is "a bag of hurt" to their profits! :p

I know it sucks, no need to tell me.
What do you think?

I think it sucks! (I love being the devil's advocate)

In all seriousness, I don't think there will be a major revision to the MBP line. The current design works and is not that old... why would Apple spend so many millions of dollars now? Wait another 3 years - these rumors will have some merit then.

Well i dont think so either but you dont need to say it sucks. ;)

But this is for mocups of mbps i just dont want any mbas.

And apple overcharges several hundred $ for their ram. there's far better ram out there for far less price

I'm glad that you aren't in charge of design at Apple. There is a reason it's called "Pro". Most of the changes you are suggesting would suck for people who actually get work done on the Macbook Pro. I don't know why so many of you want to turn the MBP into the Air! If you want those features, just go buy one. If anything, I hope they release a more robust feature set even if it makes the laptop bigger and heavier. There are a lot of professionals who would love to have more power in the field, even if they sacrifice some weight advantages. And as for getting rid of the Superdrive... no way. I need mine in case I'm at a clients office and need to burn some files for him. What am I supposed to do, lend him my flash drive? I hate how some of you consumers are trying turn the Macbook Pro into a generic consumer machine. You have the MacBooks and the Air, leave the Pro versions alone!

As a side note, I would love to see a Blue Ray drive added to the MBP. Not so I can watch movies, but to be able to burn large files while on the road.

I love you.

This guy just listed stuff about the Air. The Pro isn't a consumer's laptop (shouldn't be) It is for actual work even though the 13" is very weak. We need a powerful processor, i don't care about battery if it is over 7 hours, I need a real graphics chip and I want it even thicker with more stuff! Why would you take OUT a optical drive? Give me one reason! It is very useful.

Blu-Ray is never happening though

I would trade the optical drive for a dedicated GPU in a heartbeat. (13")

I havent used any dvd drive for the past 1.5 years. I converted all my dvds to .m4v files and store them on external drives, then I donated my dvd collection to friends and families.

What about the little notice on the back of the dvd box that says "for personal use only"?

Nope. MBP is not professional laptop, never was and never will be. Taking out the optical drive doesn't magically turn MBP to MBA. Optical drive is useless for so many people that it should be replaced by something usefull, like discrete GPU as an example. If you still need it, there are loads of cheap external optical drives anyway, which tend to be better than the one in MBP. One could argue that a profeasional shouldn't be using the optical drive in the MBP in the first place - externals are better.

I've found this one on the net...and it seems pretty good to me ;)

i could see this thin black design as real...

-it out googles the google Cr-48
-gives it a different look then air (if apple plans on similar type design)

yes but do you really want to pay $1800 for a laptop that doesn't have an ODD? It's just candy for those mac haters as well you know? And you know how annoying they can be.

Lol if apple only release things based on pleasing Mac haters, there would be no unibody MacBooks, no iPhone, no iPods, no iPads, no iMacs, no Mac mini also actually, no mac pro, no magic mouse, No magic trackpad, and no AppleTV.

I agree with removing the optical drive. Put a dedicated GPU in there instead and let us who game now and then run a game on higher settings than low-medium. I use my optical drive in my Macbook sometimes, but the world really should switch to USB (like OSX can only be installed with that USB stick on the Air). I say, do so on all future Macs (except desktops which have the space for an optical).

Can't really agree with the statement that the Pro never was and isn't a professionals laptop. I've never seen a DJ at a club use anything other than Pro's and I've been to some by now. Also a consumer for me is a person who has basic computer needs like browsing, mail, etc. A professional is someone who makes a living with his laptop, e.g. a photographer or a DJ or an editor. They'd certainly want the Pro because of more RAM and the SD card slot.

I don't think the white Macbook will be around much longer. The Pro isn't that much more $ and the current design is much nicer than the regular Macbook IMO. No reason a consumer wouldn't wanna get a Pro.

I could live with that black design. :) Looks nice, just hope it doesn't have sharp edges.

Just ignore them, although it's hard I know. ;) You can't convince most of them anyway so just don't bother. "Rest satisfied with doing well and leave others to talk of you as they will". :)

I get what you are saying I guess if they made the machine a MONSTER with Sandy Bridges and an amazing graphics chip while still having it's 8-10 hour battery life I would be happy.

No I have no problem ignoring them its just that I want the opti drive for a lot of reasons and I need it for a lot of reasons. I burn movies for my friends and stuff when I go over because them PCs have $#!t software. Like Nero and Roxio cost 100$ and its equivalent is included in every mac for free so I use it to my advantage. I also play many games on my mac and if someone can tell me how to play them without the disk that would help  It would just give them ANOTHER thing to complain about. I use my opti drive about twice a day. and im nowhere near a desk. So it would just be an inconvenience. If you need a supercomputer for your work then upgrade the stuff yourself. But still apple makes the most out of very little. Such as I've seen an aluminum macbook beat an i3 wintel at about 80% of the tests that I've put them through.

And I think the white keyboard would have a lot of strain on the eyes. Maybe have them dimmed a lot more but none nowadays have them so I can't really compare.

I didn't mean that professionals shoudln't or couldn't use MBP, what I meant is that MBP is not aimed purely at professionals. It's consumer laptop. Sure professionals can use it, why not? But these professionals can't expect Apple to make the laptop for their needs, just because it has "Pro" in the name. If Apple listens to anyone, it's the majority of their customers, which is not professionals.

i see the Air being more of a consumer laptop in the future. the specs arent that great but it works for everyday just doing...well nothing, and i believe the price of solid state is to go down shortly anyway. and no, the macbook is meant to be the consumer slave laptop that does nothing but browse the net. the Pro is for more heavy duty usage.

Do you guys really think we're going to see a complete redesign? The reason I ask, is with the new MBP (reportedly) coming out in the next week or so, I find it suspicious that we haven't see any leaks. There are always leaks when we get this close. I'm wondering if it will simply be an internal upgrade...
