Within the 14 days, you can return for any reason. Theoretically, you can return your MacBook Air, and then turn around and buy a new one. That said, I don't think you'll notice much difference with the Samsung. I had a Toshiba on my 2010 and a Samsung on my 2011. The 2011 is a lot faster because of the CPU, but disk-intensive operations are about the same (i.e. it takes about the same time to start an application or copy a large batch of files).

Thanks. That's reassuring about the speed difference. The difference looks a lot on paper but under human senses, maybe not so much? I'll think about it some more...

I think I read somewhere that on a scale of 100 (100 being fastest), if a hard drive is 15, the difference between a "slow" SSD and a "fast" SSD is like 85 vs 88. It's a little like arguing between a Camaro and a Mustang.

I got the 11" model with 2 GB Ram and 64 GB SSD and I got the Toshiba model. It seems that out of the well over 100 entries here, only one other person chose the 64 GB SSD. Can this be true? Have there been any reports of a 64 GB Samsung SSD?

Or is the 64 GB Model only shipped with Toshiba SSD?

Is there any information about the SSDs performance in the case of incompressible data? If I use the Lion filevault, the performance of the SSDs can change dramatically because encrypted data cannot be compressed. To make things worse, the performance decrease depends a lot on the exact model and the algorithms inside the SSD.
So far, I cannot find any benchmarks on incompressible data.

The Apple Store ended up replacing my Macbook Air because of creaking issues. I ended up going from a LP panel to a LTH panel. I got to say the viewing angles are way more tolerable on the samsung than the LG panels.

The samsung SSD stayed the same between models.

I just returned my 13" 'ultimate' for the base model (another thread for that) and got the samsung ssd (hooray) and the LG display.

I'm not sure where the myth came form about LG being worse.. it actually looks better to me.. better color depth and contrast (hardware calibrating)

I can't see any viewing angle difference popping out at me.. if anything the LG looks slightly better.. but it's too close, on both fronts, to be an issue.

Now if I received the toshiba ssd.. !!!!

2011 13' i7 1.8 Ghz 256MB

Just purchased at my local Apple store last week. Looks like I have the faster Samsung SSD.

Intel 6 Series Chipset:

Vendor: Intel
Product: 6 Series Chipset
Link Speed: 6 Gigabit
Negotiated Link Speed: 3 Gigabit
Description: AHCI Version 1.30 Supported

APPLE SSD SM256C:

Capacity: 251 GB (251,000,193,024 bytes)
Model: APPLE SSD SM256C

LTH133BT01A03

LG Phillips display.

and technically it was gauged as superior but realistically it's probably absolutely meaningless. I have now had both.. and the display issue is seriously blown out of proportion.. and the stuff I do is color sensitive (to a degree on this machine but proofed on another)

I honestly think those saying the samsung is better are the same people that like their flatscreen tv on vibrant... aka fake color mode. Colors are more muted with the LG out of the box, it mostly levels out calibrating, but they are more accurate imo.

Picked mine up this morning and its a Samsung 128GB but the LG display.

I can tell immediately the difference between my old Air and new.

The old Air had a brightness to it from turning up the brightness midway to full. The white really stood out. The LG panel you have to get to about 90 percent until you get that bright white look.

In the dark I could use my old Air w/ it on the lowest brightness setting, here I'd have to be up about 3-4 to get the same level.

I'll have to throw my Huey Pro on it and see. Considering the drain the brightness has on the battery this is not optimal for me but the speed of the machine in virtualization is incredible.

11",i7,128GB

Just arrived today from Netherlands.

SSD: Samsung
Display: Samsung

Couldn't be happier!!

Apple store swapped my new 13" 1.8GHz (256GB Toshy/ LTH133BT01A03) MBA on Tuesday for.. err.. a new one... I had some waking up problems with the original machine running on batteries.

The new one is LG screen with a Sammie SSD...

Can't really say I've noticed a difference either way..

As long as it works I am splendidly happy :)

Picked up my MBA yesterday from an Apple Store and 10% off.

MacBook Air / 13" / 256GB / i7 - Samsung SSD / LG Display (just like the previous MBA I had). Note my previous MBA (no backlit keyboard) had a Toshiba 128GB SSD.

SSD: APPLE SSD SM256C
MODEL: APPLE SSD SM256C
DISPLAY: LP133WP1-TJA3

It's a Sammy, you swapped for a 11"??!?

meh.. tomorrow is the last day of the 14 day return policy.. :/.. I still haven't decided if I should take the MBA 11 i5 4gb back and try my luck to get one with Samsung SSD..

In the same boat. Have until sunday to decide if I want to exchange my 13 i7 for another one with a Samsung screen. Since there is no way of knowing which screen I will end up with, I think I am going to hold off. I already have the samsung ssd.

Probably a smart move right there. I think SSD speeds are a much larger issue over the panel models. From everything I've read, both panels have their strengths.
