Take a look at the OP's post and link to the Apple thread. This issue is becoming very very widespread. Curious to hear from others if they are in the same boat as the rest of us.

I have the same problem with my 13" 2011 MBP. Remote for iOS doesn't connect either.

Please call your case into Apple. The more cases they document the better for all of us since they will be able to gather more data. Sorry you are having this problem. Crazy don't ya think.

My Fix...

Guys hear me out...

I got the 2011 17" mbp and was having the same problem. Previously I had a 2009 13" and everything worked fine with my AppleTV 2. Once I got my new Mac up and running it worked fine then all of a sudden quit. It would show my Library, but I got an error loading anything (movies, music, photos).

I rebuilt my itunes library and it fixed the issue, but as soon as i rebooted/woke up from sleep it wouldnt work again. As crazy as this sounds all I have to do is connect my iphone to my Mac, reboot itunes, and everything streams fine! I dont know what the connection is, but it works. I have been doing this the past week hoping that a permanent fix will eventually come out. Give it a shot and let us know if it works for you.

Again, just hook up the phone so itunes sees it, shut down itunes and re open it, and it should work. Works EVERY time for me....

I am not able to sync my ATV1 with my new 2011 15" MBP (port 3689 error). It is definitely a hardware handshake issue with the new MBPs. I think Apple is finally acknowledging this issue. After several days of trying every conceivable fix, my case has been escalated to Apple Engineering. I pointed them to this thread as well as others on Apple Support Forums. They commented that this only represents a small fraction of users, but they are looking into it. Call in and open cases related to this one. They need to fix this!

The iphone connect trick did not work for me (it at least allows a sync to start but it always hangs at some point), but others have reported some success with it.

Hook up with the sync cable?

Thanks MacRumors for your cover story on this. This has been tiresome to say the least to troubleshoot.

Here is what I posted on the Apple support forum regarding this issue:

UPDATE, EVERYONE CAN STOP TROUBLE SHOOTING ASAP

Went to the Apple store today.

1. Issued new MBP 17" 2.2 just as I had prior
2. Tested in store with zero songs and zero movies within Itunes on the new computer. Did not update any of the system software. Ran 10.1.2 Itunes. Failed just as before. Worked until Itunes quit then restarted Itunes and it homesharing broke within 10 seconds.
3. Updated all system software including Itunes. Failed just as before. Keep in mind, new computer nothing on it but stock Apple Software.

Here is the more interesting part. Tried my Ipad 2 and Iphone 4 on several of the Apple store computers using the same wifi "Apple Store Network." Same behavior as mentioned in step 2. Failed (not winning!!!)

By the way it connect fine with all the other machines in the store except the 2011 MBP and 2011 MP.

Conclusion stop driving yourself crazy this is either a software build issue which I truly believe it is or a hardware issue. Regardless Apple needs to fix this and fix it fast because MBP sales will slow due to this issue.

Okay that is all for me now. I am done troubleshooting this issue as I am sure many of you are as well.

Hope this helps.

Macbook Pro 2.2 2011 17' * Mac OS X (10.6.6) * *

I don't have iOS 4.3, but Remote.app on iOS 4.2 can't connect to my iTunes library on my new MBP either. Works fine with the 2007 MB next to it.

iTunes is also messing up playback on lots of my mp4 movies that work fine on my older MacBook, too.

Just to "chime in" on this one...

I get the same "No content in library" error (for all content types) on the Apple TV 2 when streaming from my 'old' MacBook, but I'm able to work around it.

Setup:
- MacBook (Feb 2008) w/ 10.6.6
- Apple TV 2 w/ latest software update
- Home Sharing enabled

Solution:
- Restart iTunes on the laptop after receiving the error.

This solution works for me (although there are, of course, no guarantees that it will work for everyone). It seems like a software bug (with, perhaps, varying implication for different systems/configurations).

Same problem here. My Remote app on my 4th gen iPod Touch and original iPad were both working find with my 2007 MBP, but neither will work with my new 2011 one. Both still work with the older machine.

I spent most of today trouble shooting this; checking all my iTunes and Firewall settings, deleting and reinstalling the Remote app, removing my library from the app and pairing it again, shutting down and rebooting devices, contacting Apple Support (who were unaware of the issue at the time I called) and generally pulling my hair out. I'm actually sort of relieved to find out it's not something I'm doing wrong, and that it's an Apple issue. Hopefully there'll be a fix for it shortly. I'm off to report the issue to Apple again!

It's working on my 2011 MBP fine for now... my daughter is in the living room watching Easy A.

(Hilarious movie...)

"Remote cannot connect to your itunes library. Check your network settings and try again."
Worked over the network with my pc...but not the new macbook. hmm. honestly not a big feature I use, but would like to use it if I wanted.

no home sharing, heat issues, permanent freezes.

we got two apple macbook pro 2011 models (15", 2.3ghz)
only problems with those machines! they are not only getting hot quite fast, also they freeze _very_ often. ah, and home sharing does _not_ work on both of them (tested with iphone4, ios 4.3).

see http://j.mp/dLSqgy for a report on our issues (we are still waiting for replacements) and for a web-roundup of mbp 2011 issues.

Slightly OT but the latest updates have broken home sharing

I'm using a white intel iMac sharing to a 2nd gen ATV. Worked great until the latest iOS update. Now it won't play any protected content in my library. It can see the programs but says the Mac isn't authorised to play them. The iMac is able to play them just fine.

2010 MBP and ATV 2nd Gen

I've experienced several drops or loss of signal with my set up. I will be playing music and all of a sudden it will just stop the TV will show the album cover or screen saver but no sound. When I check the MBP it will be playing the song but no sound. Same for movies it will begin to play a movie then stop screen goes black then nothing. I will have to restart the laptop to get it to reconnect that usually works.

I've only had this problem since upgrading the ATV2 software to 4.3

Apple TV just drops the Macbook wireless/sharing connection. Was never a problem before.

Just noticed that I'm having the same problem. I don't use Home Sharing often so I didn't notice until now. Surprisingly, the work around suggested by BFW122083 worked for me. I'll quote it below.

As crazy as this sounds all I have to do is connect my iPhone to my Mac, reboot iTunes, and everything streams fine!

Once the content was streaming, I was able to dismount and disconnect my iPhone. Approximately 5 minutes in, it's still working. Not great, but better than nothing for the time being.

(Thanks BFW122083!)

I have been having problems with the Remote app since going from 2010 MBP to the 2011 MBP (both 13" i5).

Picked up an ipad 2 on launch day, and with it came iOS 4.3 and home sharing, which has not worked at all. The library comes up as a Shared Library on my iPad, but when I try to connect to it, I get the message "Cannot Not Connect to Media Library."

After numerous calls and call backs and emails from various Apple Support employees, we found something that seems to be a short term fix.

1. iTunes Menu->Preferences->Sharing-> Uncheck the "Share My Library on my home network" option

2. iTunes Menu->Advanced-> Turn off home sharing

3. Back to preferences and check the "Share My Library on my Home Network" option

4. Back to Advanced and turn on home sharing.

Simple, I know. But after hours of troubleshooting, this seems to work the best. My home sharing is working, and has been. Even after the computer has gone to sleep and woke.

I am pretty sure, though, that once I turn it off or quit iTunes I will have to repeat these steps again.

Hopefully Apple gets on this ASAP.

Those steps havent helped the Remote app though, just Home Sharing.

Hope it helps someone else out, because I know how frustrated the whole thing made me.
