I didn't say it wasn't funny. Just that it isn't ironic at all. It's pretty much the opposite of ironic.

You dont find it ironic at all.. the team that paid him millions, was supposed to be the next golden child, bring the team from the bowles of the league..... couldn't win or get to a world series with him. Send him off to the mighty yankees who pay him big bucks... only to have the yankees loose and the Rangers make it to the WS without him! I do. But hey, either way I still find it amusing. :)

I don't. While I wasn't alive back then, they are still traitors for leaving DC.

So you never root for a team that moves? Seems kind of shallow to me, especially since you weren't even living.

Call it jealousy that the DC area could finally had a winning team if they didn't move than real hatred. :p :D

Nope. Rodriguez's contract would never have been that large if the Yankees didn't exist as a potential suitor. And if the contract had been smaller, then other teams could have outbid Texas for him. For the same reason, the Yankees were the most likely team they could have traded him to. And a quick look at the World Series winners since then indicates that it's not at all strange for a team other than the Yankees to win the World Series.

Yankee fans may have noticed that this was the same period of time when the Yankees switched from developing home-grown stars to buying mercenaries with huge contracts. So the fact that they ended up trading for the biggest mercenary of them all is absolutely un-ironic.

Again, I'm not saying it's not amusing or interesting, just that you need a primer on what irony is.

I still don't understand the irony. Had the Rangers ousted the Yanks the season after he was traded, maybe.

But A-Rod got his ring before the Rangers even made it to the World Series. So how is that even remotely ironic?

I will be rooting for the Rangers because I basically hate Cardinals fans.

Two reasons why.

One - a few of years ago I was visiting a friend in Kansas City, and we decided to go to a Royals game. It was interleague, and the Royals were playing the Cardinals. My friend and I had on Royals t-shirts that we got free at the ballpark. Long story short, the Cardinals fans in the stadium were the worst - from throwing peanuts to mocking "our" ******* franchise, etc. etc. It was insane and beyond rude.

Finally I got sick of taking the abuse and told them I was a Red Sox fan visiting KC, and I thoroughly enjoyed whooping their @$$ in the 2004 World Series. They called me a liar, bandwagoner, etc. until I showed them my MA driver's license. They shut their mouths for approximately 5 minutes.

Two - one of my college friends is dating a girl who is an obnoxious Cardinals fan/Red Sox hater, and the thought of her happily celebrating a World Series Championship makes me want to stab something. So F her and that team.

Go Rangers. :D

Anyway.. I am done..... Obviously my attempt at a little humor was taken a little too serious.

With that attitude, you should be a Yankees fan.

I hear you, though. I'm a transplanted New Yorker in Texas, and for some reason Rangers and Astros fans feel like I should have to prove I'm not some bandwagon fan. It's really, really annoying.

Almost as annoying as someone asking me if I'm a Yankees fan because I think Derek Jeter is cute.

And for that reason, I have to root for the Cardinals.

I think the fact she hates the Red Sox gets yeah! :D

I can't say I'm a fan of either team, but I think I'll be rooting for the Rangers in this World Series. Albert Pujols is always great to watch, but other than that, I can't stand the Cards...

I really wanted to see the Brewers advance, but they simply couldn't hold up to St. Louis's pitching. I'm still puzzled why Roenicke decided to pitch Marcum in such a pivotal game, despite his poor performance in the postseason. But even if the Crew did advance, Texas would walk all over them, I think.

This should be a very interesting Fall Classic...

nobody can. (whiners)

Because the Senators' fans supported the team so well back then?

Who won the Series?
Oh, they are still playing?
My bad

Somebody post the winner here when it is over... yawn

If you don't care, then why even post on the "2011 MLB Season Thread"?

No comments from anyone on that highly entertaining game last night? And wasn't it great to see LaRussa's revolving door of relief pitchers collapse?

Oh please, you should be happy to see him go after he buried the Red Sox into the ground.

Staying mum about the WS because thinking about last nights game makes my blood pressure go through the roof.

Oh ****, I guess I just thought about it..

He's going to the Cubs, of course they're never going to win. They haven't won in 100 years, what makes you think they're going to start now? ;)

You're crazy, the World Series has actually been tightly fought, exciting, etc. Can't complain at all, it's been great baseball theater.

I'm of the "let it go" opinion. He wasn't going to be GM forever, and I actually agree that after about 10 years, you need a change. At first I was annoyed he wouldn't stay and fix his mess, but I'm looking forward to a fresh start. He had planned to leave in the next year or so anyway, why not do it now so Ben Cherington can pick the new manager and get the next team off and running.

I don't really see a point to hating him. It's a job, and people yearn for new challenges. Human nature. Thanks for 2004 and 2007, I'm moving on.

I think this series is interesting in a couple of ways.

For the Cardinals, you see players all hitting their peak at the perfect time and it's not out of the question for this remote 12-1 team to win this whole thing. While we all know Pujols is great, who would have thought 3 homers in one game? This type of play doesn't happen very often.

Then you have Texas. I wasn't sure about if they deserved to be in the WS last year or if they even had depth outside of Cliff Lee. Well, look at the Rangers now. They have a pitching staff that, if they remain on the team, will be as good as anything Philly can muster in the next few years. When Texas' pitching is on, they can make great hitters look like amateurs. St. Louis has a very scary pitching staff of their own and it will be interesting to see how they fare this week, and next season.

Now that it's 3-2, Texas, I still hesitate in proclaiming them a winner with the final two games going to St. Louis. While I don't expect any sort of giant rally like they had in that Pujols big game with his three home runs, I can see this going to 7.

I think whoever wins the next game will do so by a very small margin and this series will be a pitcher's paradise. I give the edge to St. Louis tonight, with the rest and home field advantage, but I hope if this goes to 7 that Texas will win it all.

Beyond that, I would love to see Texas repeat the AL pennant and then go head to head with San Francisco again. Holland vs. Lincecum.:D

Some good news for Red Sox fans...Looks like John Lackey won't be pitching in 2012.

John Lackey to have elbow surgery

If you guys want, we'll give you AJ Burnett for almost nothing.

Hopefully it's not the arm he uses to drink beer with! :p

I agree that the Cardinals will probably win tonight and I hope they do. It's been a long time since we've had a winner-take-all game. But there have been many Game 6s that were eked out in an unlikely way. The Cardinals could play better but still lose a close game.

I actually don't care if Game 6 is close as long as we have a Game 7. There have been many Game 6s that were blowouts to set up a Game 7. (The 2001 World Series, for example.) It would be great if Game 7 were close too, but I'll settle for just having one at this point.
