I live in the U.S., and I just got the phone with the Apple representative, who said my custom 27 inch was shipping from the U.S. I don't know about world wide, but it is interesting that they would ship if from U.S.
Yeah, but your ship date was never pushed back from its original estimate. It seems like so far the only folks whose ship date was pushed back into July aren't in the USA.

Apple Delay is bad, bullsh..ing customers is worse.

How many of the folks whose shipments have been pushed back are NOT located in the USA?
Germany.

I just got an email from Apple that claims
- a 3-4 working day delay (rubbish: it is 16 working days)
- due to "higher than expected demand" (rubbish: I ordered May 3, so why should increased demand give me the same delivery date as ordering today?)
- with shipment coming from another distribution center (still listed as Prague).
Sorry Apple but you are seriously annoying me even prior to getting my first iMac. Delays are unfortunate, but feeding me bullsh.. is insulting.

Ordered a 21.5 with ssd on may 3, got it yesterday.
In the System Profiler, is the SSD an "Apple SSD TS256C" or something else? If it's something else, please post a screenshot.

Will check tonight and let you know.

I'm in the UK. Ordered on May 3rd. Had a 20th June delivery date until today but now July 18th due to the same reasons - a 3 or 4 day delay due to high demand meaning that it's shipping from an alternative warehouse. How 3 to 4 working days translates into 4 actual weeks I don't know. Maybe Apple only work one day a week, which may explain why there is such a backlog!

As was said before, delays are an unfortunate fact of life, but giving us illogical excuses to explain them is poor customer relations. I wish they would just be honest about why it is delayed.

As an aside I notice that my original order has been cancelled and rebooked for some reason. I phoned Apple up and they said it was something on their side, possibly related to this extra delay. They will get back to me next week and will hopefully know more about the reason behind the delay. I wonder if that excuse will be any more accurate. It certainly can't make less sense...

No changes on mine (SSD only) at the moment (Italy):

My gut is telling me that...

- Our 27" mac will be preloaded with Lion
- The SSD drive will be different than those on the 21" iMac

Hope I'm right.. :apple: :p

Thats right. All the BTO's with SSD are shipping from the US so I was told. My imac 21.5 with SSD was manufactured in the USA. Not china.

Are you in the US though?

Has anyone outside the US had their 21.5" with SSD shipped, and if so, where was it shipped from?

I'd be surprised if they were assembling anything in the US to be shipped to Europe, but I suppose it's possible.

Same here, bad communication effort I feel :(

Well, I think the same… because this delay (plus this "new delay" just reported above) is very weird, and annoying and I hope Apple don't want another "antennagate", so for make all us happy we'll get the new SSD drive and Lion :D

This WILL NOT happen. Seriously, get it out of your guys' heads because you're just going to be disappointed. You are getting what you paid for. Lion will not be available in retail in this time frame. It'll probably release at the end of summer. There isn't even a gold master yet and the preview build still contains a lot of bugs and needs a lot of fixes.

You're also not getting a special SSD, you're getting what you paid for and what the 21" machine has already. There's no way in HELL the 21" machines paid the same price for a lesser drive. So just stop this.

There is no precedent for these 'predictions' and there's no way Apple would piss off the thousands of people who got SSDs in the 21" machine.

Just let this go. You're gonna get what you paid for and ordered, nothing more and nothing less.

I really, really DON'T want to receive my iMac with Lion pre-installed. Why? Because then there's no option at all to go back to Snow Leopard, and Lion will almost certainly break compatibility with some apps I'm running on my current iMac in Snow Leopard. I'd much rather run SL out of the gate and upgrade to Lion after the second or third point release.

However, the longer the iMacs are delayed, the more likely Lion will come pre-installed.

Like a Bumper more for free? ;) I don't know… Yes I've paid it and to get it in 4-6 weeks, now the delay appears to be longer and i've not paid for it :D

Anyway are are just guesses… :)

Take it easy. Unfounded speculation is what MacRumors is all about!!

I also think it's very unlikely that the 27" iMacs will ship with different SSDs, but mid-cycle updates or changes aren't unprecedented. Besides, Apple didn't promise a SATA-II or SATA-III SSD...they promised a 256GB SSD. If for some reason the 21" iMacs had SATA-II SSDs and the 27" iMacs had SATA-III SSDs, everyone will still have gotten what they paid for -- that is, a "256GB Solid State Drive." I'm sure that a small number of 21" owners would pitch a fit since they got a different drive than the 27" folks, but I bet most 21" owners wouldn't even know the difference.

I'm running the third developer preview of Lion and, to me, it feels much less buggy than 10.6.0 did. Sure, it's still buggy, but it's definitely getting close!

The guess about preloading with Lion may make sense, since it may allow Apple to bypass testing of the 27"+SSD systems with Snow Leopard. That would save them significant costs. Of course it's assuming that Lion availability is that close.

If that is the case, the SSD drive would not have to be different to the 21" machines.

I just hope for SSD caching!

Supply < demand; why?

I can only echo this, only substitute Norway for UK (and 25th july for the 18th, unfortunately).

It's disappointing - however, it makes me wonder what really is going on behind the scenes.

Due to high demand for your Product your order will now ship from an alternative warehouse.

As a result, we have had to extend your delivery date by 3-4 days, but we are making every effort to meet your original delivery date.

I seriously doubt that this is a demand side problem of the equation, I suspect that the supply is lacking sorely, somehow.

What's the point of SSD caching with a 256GB SSD? Besides, unless Lion has drivers that enable SSD caching (it's only Windows right now, so I seriously doubt it), I wouldn't hold your breath for this feature.

I emailed Tim Cook just basically saying that I'm frustrated with having to live with speculation etc etc. and how it makes me question buying SSD

Within 90 mins his office called me (even though I'm in UK) and left a voicemail saying they are looking in to my concerns and will come back to me on Monday.

Maybe it will all just reveal itself by then?

Mine has been cancled as well. I ordered May 3rd. Initial estimated delivery date was June 16. Now there shows a new order up with estimated delivery date July 20 - a bumper.
Not clear to me why we see the delays. One explenation would be that they discovered lately in the development cycle a major issue and didn't want to change the initial announcement plans for the new iMac - so they hoped to fix it within six weeks - obviously they where not able to - so lets see if this is the last slip in shipment dates ... Hopefully the thing will be stable at the end.

Tim being the COO makes supply-chain issues "his problem". Good to know that Apple is listening.
