Called today to upgrade to overnight shipping, willing to pay the $50, but they did it for free!

Also, if you've never called, their automated system makes clicking noises in the background like he's typing on a keyboard. Nice touch.

Personally, I do not care about the wait time, just get IT RIGHT Apple and not try and rush it out the door so we all end up having a bunch of issues. Your track record has not been great of late.

For me the wait is worth a trouble free iMac all round.

Truer words never spoken!!

Agreed, although it doesn't make the waiting any easier. What's even worse, I'm going on vacation from June 18-July 8, so with my June 20 ship date I have to arrange for a neighbor or family to pick up my toy and keep it safe till we get back. Was really hoping for an early delivery but that's seeming less and less likely now...

I'm sure all you 21.5" w/SSD people are too busy enjoying your new machines to check back on this thread, but if you do, could you post some more benchmarks and/or qualitative impressions to make our wait less painful? Tell us how much you love Apple's stock SSD, how it's changed your lives, post YouTube videos of boot times, applications opening, gaming, etc. to make us drool? Pretty please?:)

You sure that'd make the wait less painful? Constant reminders that everyone except us 27" + SSD folks are enjoying their new iMacs just makes me even more impatient!
:)

I don't think :apple: likes Europeans ;)

My tracking app has woken me this morning to tell me that, for some reason, my iMac will still ship on June 15 but will take a additional 3 days to Make the journey to me
And they don't seem to be able to do 1 day shipping either

They must have moved it from Cork or Ireland is floating further away from the UK into the Atlantic! ;)

Mine has also been delayed. It's now due to take 8 days to ship instead of 6 days (shipping 14th June, delivered on 22nd instead of 20th). I'm guessing that it's coming from further afield than Ireland.

I wonder if this is the 3-4 day delay that they told us about before (due to changing warehouse), that accidentally became a 4 week delay. I was surprised when they changed it back to my original date instead of 3 or 4 days later, so this could be to do with that?

I suspect you're right, that it's coming in from China or somewhere. But it is odd that the Ship date is static but it's the delivery date that's changed?

Do you think UPS are doing a scenic tour of Ireland beforehand? ;)

To be fair, I don't really know how logistics work in this instance - maybe someone else knows how a ship date can stay but it can take longer to do the same delivery journey?

I presume when they say ship - they mean ship to me and not to Ireland!

I'd be interested to know out of curiosity.

My delivery has slipped to 30th June from 24th but the shipping date is still the 20th

I'm close to canceling it and going for none SSD :(

Delivery date gone 2 days up, now states 20 July.

Ordered: May 3
Initial delivery date: June 22 (shipping June 16)
First delay delivery date: July 18 (shipping July 8)
Current delivery date: July 20 (shipping July 8)

Getting kinda tired of this... :(

Update: It's gone back to delivery date July 18... weird

Same here deliver date change from 28 july to 1 but shipping date hold the 22!

I ordered yesterday and gotten even worse dates:
Estimated Shipping: 14 Jul, 2011
Estimated Delivery: 27 Jul, 2011

I don't know how come delivery takes 13 days.

Order Date 29 May, 2011
Estimated Shipping: 11 Jul, 2011
Estimated Delivery: 19 Jul, 2011

About 7 and a bit weeks if these dates are correct, i'm sure it's about finding the right solution and not screwing it up so we get a rubbish user experience.

Did I also read that they might be waiting for some new type of Intel SSD? That makes the managing of having you system files on your ssd and your content on the HDD a lot easier? like caching? i can't remember if i'm imagining this up or not.

That's SSD caching which combines a low capacity SSD with a high capacity HDD, frequently accessed files are automatically placed onto the SSD for faster access, but given that iMacs use a large 256GB SSD makes SSD caching unnecessary, so it won't be that causing the delays.

They do a lot of manual and automated testing of units in Cork, Ireland, FYI

That's an interesting point ... lots of testing going on then hopefully

Totally agree, that what is important is that we get an amazing user experience. We'll be a right bunch of moaners if we get them too early and they crap out on us

Just got the usual Dear John email:

Thank you for your recent Apple Store order.

Due to high demand for your Product your order will now ship from an alternative warehouse. As a result, we have had to extend your delivery date by 3-4 days, but we are making every effort to meet your original delivery date.

Your business is very important to us, and we apologise for any inconvenience that this change may cause.

Once your order has dispatched, you will receive a Dispatch Notification email, which will enable you to track your order. For up-to-date information on your order please visit our Order Status website at http://store.apple.com/uk/managemyorder.

Kind regards,
The Apple Store

Do you think there will be file location automation built in anyway? Or are we going to have to manually decide where things go? I got the impression from :apple: that it will just sort it all out and it'll be ready to go when it arrives?

I don't much fancy the idea of having to redirect different apps to different places

Strange push-back

I just re-checked my order status again.

While it still says it will ship June 14th, it now estimates the delivery date to the 29th- and that stinks, if you ask me.

Oh well.

Mine has just slipped an additional 4 days too :( mid July now...crazy. UK based.

All very perplexing.

Is this only in Europe again or are any of us from the US?

Mind you, hopefully the ship dates will remain the same - they anyone with obsessive tendencies can 'watch it' on a delivery app :D

Its in Europe again, Ireland.

And just to let you know, my customed macbook air came from China and it took them nearly 2 weeks again to deliver.

And people ask why I paid $50 for next day delivery. Easy -- it only increased the purchase price by 1.5%, and it guarantees it'll take 24 hours. Standard shipping is an unknown. Next day is not.
