And people ask why I paid $50 for next day delivery. Easy -- it only increased the purchase price by 1.5%, and it guarantees it'll take 24 hours. Standard shipping is an unknown. Next day is not.

I'd pay for next day delivery .... they don't offer it in the UK at any point of ordering - only 'Standard'

Apple Email

Just had an email saying that Apple have extended my shipping time by 3 days till the 23rd June.

This is getting to be a joke.

Just had an email saying that Apple have extended my shipping time by 3 days till the 23rd June.

Me too, and I only placed the order yesterday (ship date now 22 July instead of 19 July). Ah well, it'll get here when it gets here.

Just checked my shipping dates, and they haven't changed at all -- Still exactly the same as the day I placed the order.

Ordered on May 25th

Ships on July 8th

Delivered on July 9th

(Interesting thing is, I have regular shipping, not 1-day, and it's still saying it will only take 1 day. Maybe a benefit of being 30 miles north of Cupertino?)

(I am in San Francisco.)

Also just got the email, ordered 19th May, now delayed to 14th July. By the time it gets here the next version will be due.

Seriously thinking I should cancel my order.
:(

That's an interesting point ... lots of testing going on then hopefully

Totally agree, that what is important is that we get an amazing user experience. We'll be a right bunch of moaners if we get them too early and they crap out on us

Just got the usual Dear John email:

Thank you for your recent Apple Store order.

Due to high demand for your Product your order will now ship from an alternative warehouse. As a result, we have had to extend your delivery date by 3-4 days, but we are making every effort to meet your original delivery date.

Your business is very important to us, and we apologise for any inconvenience that this change may cause.

Once your order has dispatched, you will receive a Dispatch Notification email, which will enable you to track your order. For up-to-date information on your order please visit our Order Status website at http://store.apple.com/uk/managemyorder.

Kind regards,
The Apple Store

Same here, Italy, delivery pushed by 2 days, same shipping date.
Frustrating!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad:

I'm also in San Francisco, and also have a 1 day shipping estimate with free shipping.

I don't think proximity to Cupertino would matter, since they have engineers there, not warehouses or factories, but apparently all the US 21.5" iMacs with SSDs so far have shipped from Union City, so that might explain it.

that Apple have extended my shipping time by 3 days till the 23rd June.
Same new arrival date for my May 3 order. The original quote was June 27. Since, it has bounced to July 19, then to June 16 and now shows June 23 (destination is Germany). No big deal, especially as shipping still starts June 14. Side-note for all those advocates of "ship" shipping :D - even an imaginary super-fast non-stop passenger ship China-Europe would need 14 days via Suez. A more realistic container delivery estimate adds at least another week to that, so Apple is apparently airfreighting the 27" computers. Else, we'd be hearing from Asian Apple fans receiving their 27" SSD iMacs right now.

I got off the phone with an Apple rep. Getting really impatient with this whole process, and I'm afraid that once the time comes, the thing won't even ship.

I can wait 3 weeks, but not 2 more months. So if it gets bumped back, I'll be canceling.

They too upgraded me to Next Day Shipping and offered me accessories. I couldn't think of anything I want, so I turned them down there.

So for now, my order is still intact, but this is making me nervous!

Additionally, upon asking what was up among all the rumors, he said the only details he had was that they are being manufactured in the US, so it's not shipping to me from Asia or something. That means the overnight will actually work.

I called today and was able to get them to bump my shipping to next day air.

Mine is supposed to ship june 15, i ordered it may 3rd, the day they were first offered. I was also told they will be shipping from inside the United States as well.

Probably going to cancel my order

So I've been reading and waiting with you all for the past two months and my excitement is pretty much gone. Now after reading this post about hard drives having problems

https://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-1161948.html

I think this is forcing me to cancel this order and wait to see what happens. Seems that more than a few people are having their hard drives freeze up and stop functioning. Probably due to the new 7 pin connection and proprietary drives. So I (we) have a few options to think about:

1. Stick with my $3000 purchase that I am already worried about.

2. Cancel and wait for the bugs to be ironed out and wait for Lion to reorder.

3. Cancel and order a refurbished 2010 i7 w/ ssd for $1999

One of the things that really angers me is the target display modes only accepts Thunderbolt signals. Will they make video cards that output to Thunderbolt standards? I'm a gammer on my PC and this beautiful 27" HD screen was a big reason I ordered it. If I can't use it as a monitor for my PC that means I'll have to bootcamp my mac, which I didn't want to do.

I would try a Mac Mini w/ the 27" display except I use Final Cut Pro and need the Graphics Card and extra processing power that the iMac has.

I'm thinking the refurbed unit might be the best bet. I can at least get a DVI to mini Display port adapter and use it as a monitor and still have a pretty good high end iMac for video editing. And save $1000.

I would think the iMac can boot from the thunderbolt port since I know they can boot from firewire and as far as I know USB drives.

Have a feeling the delay has something to do with a release at the WWDC. Its hard to believe that nobody received their 27" BTO. Have a feeling it has something to do with a new SSD that will enable caching through LION.
Lets check our orders on TUES and see.

I wouldn't let a few people's bad experiences with hard drives cause you to cancel your order. I read that thread you linked, and it looked like it was mainly one person with a streak of bad luck with standard HDDs anyway, not SSDs. With any product, there will be people who have problems. Those people will want support and come to forums like these to voice complaints. All the satisfied users out there will be too busy enjoying their new machines to post about it on the forums (and would have little reason to anyway)...

Just be honest with yourself for your reasons for canceling. If it's impatience over the delay, that's understandable. Plenty of people have opted to DIY an SSD upgrade or wait on thunderbolt enclosures with the hopes they are bootable. But personally, while the wait is painful, I'm thoroughly excited to be getting exactly what I wanted - a fully decked out iMac with SSD completely backed by Apple support. If I have any hardware problems, I have 100% confidence that I can exchange for an identical, but problem-free machine. Apple has always been awesome about customer service (in my experience) and I think all the people who have been upgraded to overnight shipping is a testament to that.

I mean, think about it. For many of us (excluding the non-US peeps who have been jerked around a bit more), we knew we were looking at a 4-6 week wait before we clicked "buy" and Apple gave us free overnight shipping for no reason other than to satisfy our impatience. That's pretty awesome IMO.

I just know that I'll ultimately be thrilled with my purchase, even though it'll more than likely be a SATA-II drive and more than likely have SL as opposed to Lion... I'm not building up any unrealistic expectations. I'll be excited just to get what I ordered. :)

+1 to the above.

The "polls" tend to attract an imbalance of results. The percentage of buyers of iMacs with SSDs is hardly likely to be 50% as the "poll" says. The percentage of buyers who have yellow screens or hard drive issues are way fewer than these polls suggest. Relax!

Hey there, my shipping date is June 30th, but my delivery date just pushed from July 6th to July 12th... COME ON! 13 days shipping? thats hard man

Definitely a possibility I am guessing ... although doesn't given all those clever developers much time with the GM ... maybe they don't need that long?

Mine's off on the 15th too and they have confirmed that that date is "definite"
