+1. I don't understand why some folks are upset (or even surprised) that their iMac w/ SSD hasn't shipped yet given the fact that we're still two weeks out from the original scheduled ship date.

It's the faint flicker of hope that it will come earlier than posted combined with the hot jealousy of everyone else who has their 2011 iMacs!

We all know we're being unreasonable, but what else than to refresh our apple order status again ... And again ... And again ...

Why our model *sniff* ? It's like waiting for Xmas 6 weeks longer than everybody else!

That, and technically 4-6 weeks began yesterday!

I am also waiting for my 27" with SSD. Personally I think this has to do with the WWDC - probably MacOS Lion.

Actually I do not really care if its a SATA2 or SATA3 SSD. I put an Intel Postville SSD in my Thinkpad more than a year ago and I am still more than pleased by the performance.
As many here already stated, its not the transfer-rate that makes a SSD great with every days use, its the seek-time.

relax, the main purpose of my post was to share the info from the apple representative. i was not complaining about the delivery time as i knew what to expect when I ordered. obviously, there was and still is some hope that delivery time improves. I just regret having sold my 2007 Imac too soon and was looking at alternatives, what is wrong with that?

My comments weren't specifically directed at you. I can totally understand being impatient, but some folks are actually pissed that their computers haven't shipped yet.

FWIW I'm sure I'd be jumping up and down too with anticipation but this time around I decided to hang on to my late '09 iMac until after my new iMac arrives. Believe me, it sure helps mitigate the anticipation of a new toy!

It's the outright anger and sense of being wronged that some have expressed that has me baffled, not impatience and gleeful anticipation. :)

I think the only people on here who have sounded pissed or wronged are those of us who had our delivery times extended by a further month and were given an explanation that described it as an extra 3 or 4 days. And now that has been revealed as an error (hopefully) then we are happy again, and have said as much.

Apart from that most people seem reasonably relaxed, with most posts involving speculation about the reasons for the initial 4-6 week delay, rather than "outright anger" about it.

Just ordered my 27"+SSD, and found that it's now virtually a 7-week delay; it's shipping in 6 weeks + 1 day and being delivered in 6 weeks + 6 days. So much for "4-6 weeks", then! I don't mind waiting though; it's only a computer, not a lung transplant...

Waiting on parts

It has nothing to do with Lion.

I have it from the horses mouth. They told me that "the issue is with parts".

Mine is still on for June 20th shipping (booked on May 8). Just need to find the money to pay for it now lol. Hurry up Apple I'm getting tunnel vision from my 13" MBP. :D

I personally don't think the delay has anything to do with Lion, but the fact remains that there is a strong chance that they do announce Lion availability at WWDC next week and a more remote but possible chance that Lion ships before some of our current ship dates (mine is 29 June). Any experience with past situations like this? Will Apple shift all production over to Lion the day after retail availability? For instance, what did they do with stock in past upgrades? Did you get a free upgrade to the new OS or did they pull all stock and reload it themselves (seems much more Apple to take any complexity away from the customers)? Just curious.

We will probably get a free upgrade to Lion if it is launched very close to our delivery dates. It wouldnt be fair making us wait for weeks then not giving us Lion when it is actually available before we get delivery of our macs. Probably have to pay for postage of discs or they may be dropped in the box with SL pre-installed. Potentially they could give us a code to redeem on the App store to download Lion for free. This is if it is released around the time our Macs are shipped.

As I've stated, and others here have stated, you're not getting Lion with your iMac.

The developer preview is still buggy (significantly buggy that it's not going to be ready that quickly) and Apple always releases a Gold Master for at least a few weeks before releasing out into the public.

They'll definitely discuss Lion at WWDC and probably even discuss new features that aren't even in the preview build. But if that's the case, then that means they have to test those features and that's just more weeks/months of preview builds before a gold master.

No one here is getting Lion with their iMac. Period. It will eventually be installed on iMacs when they actually release the OS, but not with this batch of systems.

Don't build that up for yourselves, you'll only be disappointed.

Do they not charge you until it ships? I thought they charge you right when you order it??

I'm more than stoked to receive my iMac!

Mine says July 11th for delivery as I ordered it about a week ago.

Can anyone tell me, when does the AppleCare warranty start? Is it from the day you get the iMac? Or from the order date?

First Mac computer can't wait!

I think we will get Lion for the price of Shipping (6 or 7 bucks) because we still haven't received our iMacs and I'm speculating that they will announce the date at WWDC. A friend told me he got it this way he ordered his Mac a month before 10.6 released.
:)

21.5" is back down to 2-4 days lead time, 27.0" remains at 4-6 week lead time.

It'll be interesting to see if Lion gold master DVDs are distributed this year at WWDC. I didn't go when Snow Leopard was nearly out, but DVDs were handed out then. I'm aware that there's already a heck of a crunch just to get iOS 5 betas ready for distribution Monday.

if its a firmware issue, it makes sense to address it only once - in Lion.
