Some good news for those who ordered the BTO 27 inch iMac with SSD. I just got off the phone with an Apple representative, finding out why the delivery was pushed back, and of course he or anyone else in the department didn't know why the delivery was pushed back, but the shipping stayed the same. He said it still says next business day delivery, but the delivery date, for some reason, is 3 business days. They couldn't figure it out why. But that is not the good news.

The good news is that I also asked about whether I qualified for the free Lion upgrade, since I actually haven't paid for my iMac yet until it ships. In Apple released statement today, it says if you purchase on June 6 or afterwards you will get a free upgrade to Lion. I explained to the Representative that their is a difference between ordering and purchasing, and he agreed. He went back to his boss to confirm if I could get Lion, and his boss said that I was right and that it goes by when you are charged on your order. So they notated it on my order number that I am eligible for the free upgrade to Lion. We will see once Lion is available how I will actually get it for free. For everyone, if you want a free Lion upgrade, just call Apple. You might not have it as easy of time as I did, but just explain to them that there is a difference between ordering and purchasing and that you will not be charged until the iMac ships as per Apple's policy. That should work for you. Also, if you are treat the representative with respect, without yelling at them, you might get an extra bonus like I did. I got an extra $65 off my bill because of being calm and patient.

Junecloud just informed me of the bad news, slipped from 6/22 to 6/24 delivery date to Phoenix, AZ. Ordered 5/6.

Best part of the call to Apple was "Don't quote me, but I think I understand the delay to be caused by a backordered special part, something called a SuperDrive that only the 27" iMac has"

Attempt to upgrade to next day shipping was "not possible", even if I wanted to pay it myself.

I'm in Massachusetts, ordered May 3rd, ship date is unchanged at June 16, delivery date moved from 23rd to 22nd.

This is the first change in schedule that I have seen.

I assume this (as well as the orders who now have 2-3 day "overnight" shipping) is because they're shipping from China now, so they can't guarantee overnight.
I've had 3 Macs ship from China and arrive not only overnight, but the next morning before 10AM.

I don't mean it isn't possible, but can they guarantee it? Or at least guarantee it at a reasonable rate? They'd rather give you 2 day shipping that ends up being overnight than overnight shipping that ends up being two days.

If it isn't a problem to guarantee overnight shipping US-wide, what's the alternate explanation for not allowing overnight shipping and "overnight" shipping estimates becoming 2-3 days?

Onus is on the carrier, not the sender, as long as the sender meets the carrier's requirements for getting it in their hands.

Shanghai -> Boston is ~7500 miles. Cargo planes cruise at ~590mph. Overnight is tough, but "next day" is not hard. Especially since there's a massive time zone lag (as much as 13 hours) that plays in the carrier's favor in the case of China -> US.

China to London is harder for overnight since they're both on the same side of GMT, but the plane is roughly keeping on par with the rotation of the earth. Handoff at the regional hub and "last mile" hub are the expensive bits (in terms of time).

Sure, it's clearly possible if as soon as it's ready to go it immediately takes off on a jet directly to the destination, but my guess (I don't have data either way) is that overnight/next day is beyond what can be guaranteed for non-extravagant shipping rates for China -> US. It's the shipping company the makes the guarantee, but the shipping company also decides what guarantees it will make and for what rates.

Apple's also aware that customers will be angry with Apple even if it's UPS' fault their package is delayed, so even if the shipping company offers overnight, if Apple's had enough problems they may not want to offer it.

These shipping delays are a plus for me. It means that they are accurately assessing their time, and we probably won't see any further delays.

I too was on overnight, and told it was shipping from the US just last week. Now they bumped my shipping date a few days, and it's shipping from China (I'm assuming that's what they meant by overseas).

This gives me a bit of comfort knowing that they are tracking what's going on, and the dates we all have are actually pretty accurate right now.

When I saw this delay today, I called the Apple Rep and she refunded me for the VESA mount adapter, which I now have free of charge, for all the delays.

They are obviously fully aware in Customer Service of the issues surrounding these iMacs and willing to do some special things, i.e., free shipping, free accessories to keep us on board.

Makes me feel a bit better about sticking around and not canceling my order.

damn it

my delivery date changed today.

I ordered the fully loaded 27" at 9am PST on launch day May 3rd with Next Day delivery.

I hoped, like many, thought the 4-6 week notice was somehow not real and that surely it would ship sooner, that it was just an overly cautious estimate.

Until today order status had been
Ships: Jun 15 Delivers: Jun 16
Now it's
Ships: Jun 15 Delivers: Jun 20

I have been thinking/hoping that my very early order with paid next day delivery to San Francisco (close to big airport, seaport and near union city(however and wherever it's coming from)) might be one of the first to be delivered.

this thing better be damn fast and save me all the time and more that I have spent checking this thread and order status, oh wait that's not possible...well it better be damn cool how fast it is

Customs Contingency

My USA 27"/SSD got pushed also. Had free overnight upgraded to free 2-3 day business. No issues, rep very accommodating.
Ordered 4 May
Ship 16 Jun
Delivery 17 Jun pushed to 21 Jun

Most likely US Customs contingency, plus one more transfer point. Could be China or Ireland, I suppose.

Also had another 21.5 ordered today and shipping Wed upgraded to free next day air and a free mouse. That one is coming from within US.

mine got pushed too. ordered 05/25. initial ship date was 07/08, delivery of 07/09, now 07/14.

it gets here when it gets here. as long as it is 100% bulletproof, i'm happy.

Changed my mind :0

So I was going to cancel my order but decided instead to upgrade my order. I called apple tonight to make a few changes to my order. Upgrade to the 2TB+SSD and upgrade to the 2GB graphics memory. Also to just get the Magic Trackpad and not the magic mouse. Long story short, I now am scheduled to get my mac between June 13-15 instead of the original June 23-25.

Now to wait until the iPhone 4GS comes out w/ iOS 5 and I'll be set for a while. I waited 2 years to use my last $50 new every two credit at Verizon and it's going towards an iPhone, hopefully sooner than later.

I'm just gonna cross my fingers for a PC Video card that has Thunderbolt out.

Wow if I get my iMac by the 15th I will have made the 4-6 week time frame by 1 day.

i remember tracking one iphone order. it went from china to alaska to memphis (cleared customs in memphis) and then to oakland, and then out for delivery.

however, everything happened within 24 hours...so it was pretty impressive.

Mine just changed from June 16 to June 20 as well, and I'm in Memphis!

someone just made a global transit time change and its cascading through the system.

i'm certain apple will meet these dates, plus or minus 20 days.

Yep. I've been pushed out to July. I've been trying to get someone's ear on this, with no luck just yet.

I certainly hope your winking emoticon means you're joking. Otherwise that just might be the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Sort of joking - If Lion is officially released before my BTO iMac has been received or within my 14 day return period, and it does not come with Lion preinstalled or they refuse to provide me a free lion upgrade, I will just return it and buy a new iMac with lion !!

Otherwise you would be right - then I might just be the dumbest fool ever to buy a Mac product - and apparently there are a lot to choose from !!!!

Personally, to me, Lion is $30. I won't cry if I have to spend $30, considering most of the 27" SSD iMacs were close to $3K taxed and shipped. I can deal with 1% of the purchase price for a new operating system.

And that $30 covers the Thunderbolt MacBook Pro I already have.

If i can safe myself 30 euro, then i will. Bottemline is that u buy a 2500 euro machine w/ a outdated OS in 4 weeks

Just got a text from Apple. Mine has been shipped :) Order status says shipped june 7 but the delivery est is still 28th June. However the text says expect delivery by 15th.
