This thread has provided a ton of support for me, waiting for my first desktop mac since my 1991 LC. (been living off the MBP).
I placed an academic order 5/4 for a fully loaded (minus 8gb memory) 27" with SSD. Though I have called the bookstore a couple of times to look up order status, I am reluctant to bug them much more. My last contact was last Friday and all they were able to tell me (I saw them look it up) was that the order had been sent to manufacturers and that shipping was scheduled to begin by June 15. There had been no changes to the order status since the first day (5/4). I am located in Colorado, USA.
Has anybody on the list purchased an iMac from academia? Have you heard anything?
The reported stats look great. Thanks to everyone for all the posts and info. Although the SATA3 would have been awesome, I am still hugely stoked!!

Yes, mine was with academic discount- specs much like yours, ordered May 3rd, shipped last week but now stuck in transit in Eindhoven as it were.
Have a number or two to cycle through the TNT web tracker, to no avail

Just a quick update. I ordered my 27" iMac on 5/15 and I can see the status has changed to prepared for shipment! I currently live in Australia. My original shipment date was June 29 with an original delivery date of July 5. These dates have not changed yet, but since my cc was charged and the order can not be canceled anymore, I think within 24 hours it will change to a shipped status and the delivery dates will change accordingly. Very exciting. Will keep you posted.
So is everybody putting their home folder (with iTunes, iPhoto libraries, etc.) on the HDD and keeping just the OS and applications on the SSD?

I just talked to apple today, and i am eligible for the "Lion Up to date" clause.

"The Mac OS X Lion Up-To-Date upgrade is available at no additional charge via the Mac App Store to all customers who purchased a qualifying new Mac system from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller on or after June 6, 2011. Users must request their Up-To-Date upgrade within 30 days of purchase of their Mac computer. Customers who purchase a qualifying Mac between June 6, 2011 and the date when Lion is available in the Mac App Store will have 30 days from Lions official release date to make a request."
After talking to apple, even though i placed my order may 3rd, it didn't CHARGE my creditcard till 6/10 so TECHNICALLY i didn't buy my mac till then.
Anyways, just passing it along for what it's worth (i guess 30 bucks)

wow - mine is arriving a day early as well.
i'm in california. the fedex flight went straight from shanghai to memphis - no alaska stop at all. that seems odd - i don't think there is a plane that can fly nonstop from china to memphis - i think fedex tracking might be lagging...

Same here. Its in Memphis right now. Fedex shows delivery early Thursday, but if its on an overnight to LAX tonight I could get it tomorrow, late.

to be honest with you, it's no difference if i get my imac tomorrow or the day after. its just a pain in the ass with TNT.
i can't be at home every day all week. and since theyr tracking ain't tracking i called them already twice.
the are unable to tell me a delivery date.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the truck showed up this morning and my iMac is sitting on my desk. Will take me a while to get used to everything, especially with the dual hard drives as I am a switcher. They have installed everything onto the SSD. I've moved my iTunes library onto the HDD but am not sure about how I go about putting everything else on there when the folders under my user name are located on the SSD. But I'm such a newb - its been 11 years since my last Mac - that I'm sure everything will become clear.

Got an update at last. It's in the Arnhem Hub and still due for delivery in the UK on Friday. Anyone know how to flight track it from Arnhem? I'm getting totally obsessed with tracking this baby!
Also for those to have had deliveries in the UK, was 2 days enough to get the package from Arnhem to your delivery address?

tnt is fkn with us. after a bit of research with the tracking-tool, i found customers who were on the same flight as i was from shanghai, but already got theyrs - and to me they say its gonna till tomorrow or even friday..

But Apple took the funds from my card yesterday so no doubt the warrantee runs from yesterday too.
WTF!!! right im getting worried now.
pisses me off too as the guy above my post shows his is out for delivery, and looking at the history and times must have been on the same flight as mine, unless tnt have a flight every 3 hours which I doubt.

Mine is in the UK being delivered by UPS, its on the back of a van somewhere hopefully arriving at my house this afternoon.
I guess it is luck of the draw as to which courier you get. I had zero tracking available until UPS in the UK got it and I was able to track on their systems then.
