they are replacements?! what do you expect. be mad at the NFL, not the guys trying to work.

**** the NFL owners. They sign a $3 billion a year TV deal and lock out referees over a million or two a year.

The fact is, they're a bunch of greedy bastards who are putting out an inferior product due to replacement refs and are putting players at risk. Watch how fast it ends once a major star gets hurt.

That said, how about my Jets? :D

Falcons looked pretty good I hear
I was on a plane and didn't get to see the game

Ok, I will go back to the college football thread now :)

The falcons looked really good. From the highlights that I saw and the score they put up. Not to mention that kid from Bama putting up some great freaking numbers! :D

Thought I would mention a college team for yeah! :D

Great week for my Patriots. :D The defense looked better, here's hoping. I guess reports of the Jets demise were vastly exaggerated? I must admit to being thoroughly surprised and impressed by RGIII. Seems like Washington might have finally found its man.

Agree wholeheartedly with rick, I actually feel bad for them. They're in a terrible position, everyone is harping on every move they make, actually waiting for them to fail. The NFL should be ashamed and the fans should be pissed at the league. Of course, people will watch football even if a hand reached out from the TV and slapped them between quarters, to the NFL won't do anything until they're good and ready. It's beyond lame.

I actually think they are doing pretty good so far. The media is reminding us of how "horrible" the replacements are every chance they can get, but in reality things could be much worse. These guys are really in a no win situation. The regular officials blow calls and it's just "oh well, that's a part of the game...", but when the replacements blow a call it's going to be talked about over and over and over and over..... Truly it's a thankless job.

I feel for them. I'm sure some of them busted their butts to get ready for it, and no matter what they do, people are going to judge them a failure.

The ref must have been a Michigan fan....

I think the worst (and most gratuitous) was the block in the back flag that was taken away during the Green Bay run back.

That was the egregious one in my opinion. Thankfully the Niners won anyway, or that would have been a definite game changing play.

Did Cin even show up last night or is BR that good? Yikes.

I think the Ravens could really be that good this year. It seems they are finally putting all of the pieces together on offense and with Rice, Boldin, Smith, and Flacco they have some great weapons.

MNF for the Falcons with the Broncos

Manning is 11-3 on MNF, best for any QB
Falcons are 9-24, next last for winning pct to the Texans (only 4 appearances)
Over the past several years the Falcons' MNF games have been with the Saints

Should be a good game though

Great week for my Patriots. :D The defense looked better, here's hoping.

Offense looked great.. clearly the passing game was going to be good but if Ridley can bring us a consistent running game, look out NFL.

The defense is really promising this year and I'm thrilled about that. The Pats defense has been severely lacking for more than a few years now. The front 7 looks huge, strong, and fast. If they can stop the run and pressure the quarterback, they can take the pressure off the secondary, which is also improved. Jones and Hightower both look like impact players.

I'm very excited for this season. Lets see how the boys look tomorrow against Arizona.

Terrible game by the Patriots. I'm catching a butt crack early flight and decided (unwisely) to skip sleep, so I had time to watch the DVR and rewind a lot of stuff. Bear with me while I vent a moment:

1) Brady looked uncomfortable, indecisive, and unsure. Not impressed with his performance, and I'm sick of him missing long potential TD throws. He has to play better. Period. Ho hum is not going to cut it from our franchise player, and I can't remember the last time he looked truly Brady-esque. He has to put up a big game or the questions are going to mount.

2) Terrible, terrible play calling. Not trying to pick up more yards on that final field goal, lots of dumb sweep plays on third and long, taking a knee before halftime - also not going to cut it. I can't figure out why they were being so tentative, I really can't. The coaches laid an egg.

3) Dropped passes galore - Gronkowski, Welker, Lloyd, all of them had drops that we needed to be caught. Frustrating as heck to watch.

4) The defense was the silver lining. They made a miracle happen creating that turnover with a minute left, and we had a chance to win the game with a 42 yard FG Gostkowski almost always makes. Tough break, but not a win we particularly deserved, even if we should have won it on the FG.

Hopefully the defense can continue to show vast improvement from last year as the offense figures itself out. Aaron Hernandez has a high ankle sprain, but hopefully he'll be back before too long. Clearly we missed him. :(

Hernandez getting hurt on like the third play from scrimmage threw everyone off. They had to change up the entire game plan and it took them a while to get settled in after that. He played nearly every snap and every position in week 1. Losing a guy like that and not knowing the severity of the injury clearly affected them.

Yeah, that last minute was horrible. They could have taken 3 more shots at the end zone or moved up from 42 yard field goal to a 20 yarder.

3) Dropped passes galore - Gronkowski, Welker, Lloyd, all of them had drops that we needed to be caught. Frustrating as heck to watch.

I remember a couple, but I also remember the Cardinals DB's making a bunch of really great plays to knock balls away at the last second.

Can't blame Gostkowski, the team had ample opportunities to put this game away but they dropped the ball... literally and figuratively. It was a team loss.

You're right about the defense. They are definitely still a work in progress, but light-years ahead of last year. That game-breaking play you describe and the Jones fumble/Hightower TD last week are two great examples. Our defense has been missing that ability to have a big impact like that for years. It's definitely encouraging.

Our front seven is HUGE. I think I'm developing a serious man-crush on Chandler Jones. lol

Tough loss, but it happens. Learn from the mistakes and move on to next week.

Also, I hope Belichick called up Goodell and bitched him out this morning for quite a while. These replacement refs are a ****ing joke and are ruining the game. Stop ****ing around and settle with the refs union. Putting this crap on the field in a multi-billion dollar industry and letting it affect games over a couple million dollars is asinine.

The Patriots had that game won yesterday with that Danny Woodhead touchdown run in the last minute. It got called back by one of the most pathetic holding calls I've ever seen in all my years of watching football. That would not have happened with the real officials.

Oh, for sure. But there was also loads of bad decision making and mental mistakes.

I'd love to hear the explanation for that sequence of play calling. I am normally not an armchair QB when it comes to that type of thing, but that was absurd.

Yeah, not talking about the balls batted out of receiver's hands - there were a few dinks they missed, and balls that could have been caught but weren't.

Not blaming him at all. He's normally money. He just didn't get the job done, but he's not alone. Mesko's blocked punt was a huge play.

You and me both. He's a beast, and it's a sight for sore eyes. I am so thrilled we hit on that pick - both he and Hightower seem to be making an impact already.

The referee situation is ridiculous. The only silver lining is everyone has to deal with them, so hopefully the screwing of teams will balance out. It's shockingly greedy that they haven't gotten a deal done yet, though.

Any comments on the New York/Tampa Bay kneeldown incident?

My two cents: There was time on the clock, it was a one score game - you play football till the game is over. They didn't break any rules. I hate time-wasting, I hate the concept of a "victory formation". I find it silly that Manning expressed surprise at -shock- a defending team trying to tackle him during a football game!

How would people feel if Manning had been flattened, fumbled the ball and Tampa bay had scored? Pretty excited I bet. I say it was worth a try. It's an insult to the fans, considering how much money we have to pay to watch football, to imply that actually playing football during a football game is a "cheap shot". By trying to tie it up Tampa Bay was attempting to give fans more for their money with some OT. Since football is about little apart from money these days one would think such a gesture would be appreciated.

Usually with 5 seconds left everyone accepts the fact that the game is over. The league said it didn't have a problem with it but you just don't see it done that often. Had Eli been injured on the play or it happened with a 40 point lead then there would be even more yelling about it.

I don't know what it really accomplished, what are the chances of it working.

I agree..... Did you ever see the play with Tom Brady with the fake taking a knee and throwing the ball. Sorry, if the game is that close taking a knee, no cheap shots if you ask me.

Honestly, I'm the last person on earth to agree with the Giants, and I think Tom Coughlin whines after almost every game and should probably shut up more. That said, I thought it was a really lame move by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

1) They had no chance to tie the game if they caused/recovered a fumble with their pile dive. With 5 seconds left, even if they pulled off the miracle, time would have expired. Which makes it a pointless move.

2) The victory formation is a courtesy to BOTH teams. That way no one gets hurt when the game has been decided already. I can MAYBE understand pulling that move if there's more time on the clock, but there wasn't.

3) No one is arguing it's an illegal move, it's just a punk play. Sure, you can do it, but the repercussions don't seem to justify it. The Bucs players looked embarrassed after the fact, imo. Looked like some of them were apologizing to Giants players, but I could have been misreading that.

Essentially, they did it because Greg Schiano is a rookie coach trying to change the culture of a losing team as quickly as he can. I get the desire, but he's going about it the wrong way. Moves like this don't promote toughness, they promote stupidity and pissing off your opponents.

I'm not a huge fan of unwritten rules, I'm a fan of common sense, and that's my main problem with the move.
