I really, really, really hope the Ravens win on Sunday... wipe the smug look off Brady, Bellichick and all of Boston fan's faces. ugh never seen a more arrogant pompous fan base.

You do realize that Clear Channel (not the Patriots, any boston fans, or the boston sports media) is the company that put up that billboard?

Clear Channel also put one up near Baltimore.

They are just trying to get free publicity.. and it works. It is pretty funny though.

Definitely not unbiased I'll admit that. But I really do beleive there is an extra level of arrogance with that team and it stems from the coach, you even see it when he interacts with the media....

Ahh the old "belichick is an arrogant *******" myth pops up again.

By all local accounts (not from the national sportswriters), Belichick is a tough coach, but he's actually a funny and nice guy.

He doesn't like the media because all they do is cause distractions, so he teaches all his players to do as he does and tell them as little as possible. They don't like it because they could literally write the answers to his press conference before it even happens.

They don't like it because it's boring and it gives them little to gossip about, so they paint him as "arrogant". In reality, he's just being a smart coach. The less distractions from the outside, the better, and the results over his career here in New England speak for themselves.

He likes cameras so he must be cool.

You do have to admit he has done some douchey things - beginning with the way he left the Jets. And some of the no post-game handshakes (like with Eric Mangini)....

Oh he has, but things like that aren't exclusive to him.

Anyone remember this?

There's a difference between being a little arrogant with someone you have animosity towards/don't like/whatever like Belichick/Mangini or Harbaugh/Schwartz and being the devil reincarnated like some mediots try to paint Belichick as.

Here's a good read on Belichick if any of you are interested:

I'm certainly not saying he's the only one. I'm saying that there's a reason he has the reputation he has.

And I've never heard him painted as the devil reincarnated. If the man is an a**, so be it. Doesn't take anything away from him being an excellent coach. But let's call a spade a spade. :D

There are arrogant fans of every winning team, let's not pretend that's a New England-only phenomenon. I understand the hate in the context of being sick of seeing NE win, but this stuff happens. Often. People are just trying to create drama and storylines.

You have mentioned yourself hating Boston and all Boston teams, so you're not exactly unbiased.

I have seen a pretty pompous fan base just south of Boston. Glass houses, you know.

Agreed!

Those Baltimore fans are the worst!

;)

Sooooo who is everyone taking this weekend and who is your pick to go all the way and win it all?

Me, I am going for NE.

Reason: Don't like the dirty birds and can't stand the Niners. Ravens are ok, but I like NE better to beat them. If the Ravens win then I will pull for them. But I am taking NE to win it all.

Always and forever. :D

I hope the SF/ATL game is good and tight. For my nerves, hoping NE/BAL is not.

I hope they are both decided in last minute so we can have some fun because we have one day of football instead of two. Other than the Niners being in, I am not all that excited for some reason this year. I need something spectacular in the championships of both conferences to spur me on.

It must have been all that baseball and facing six elimination games. That was like being the Red Sox in 2004 playoffs, but almost twice as bad in terms of sheer stress. If my Niners win, I will watch Super Bowl, but if they don't I will probably wash car or cut lawn. It's not that I will be mad or sad, just disinterested overall.

Part of me can't really get into the spirit of the NFL right at this juncture because the gods who rule everything Giants baseball don't know what the heck they want to do with closer Brian Wilson and that's eating me up inside. If we lose him, it won't only be one of the players but the spirit of the team. What if the Ravens could sign Lewis again or the Pats Gronk or Brady, but for the reason of a surgery, pass on him even though facts show they are OK. Awful stuff for bay area sports fans right now. Also on backburner but something that could be crucial is we may not keep SF Niners' offensive coordinator, and that adds insult to injury. Did somebody sprinkle stupid dust on the city?? It's been a dark week for San Francisco to say the least.

Go Niners. Even though the coach is as bad with the press as BB. I much prefer the more personable and intelligent responses we would get from Bill Walsh and other more open coaches. I see no advantage at all, none, by being snarky in press conferences.

While fully admitting he's not a lovable teddy bear, his rep is overblown in my opinion. He's not a media darling, and so they portray him like Darth Vader. He treats the fans and his players with respect, he's giving of his time and money to charity, and he does his best to put the focus on the game. Mangini was a disloyal douche, and I'd have done the same thing.

When the NFL has guys who have DUIs, domestic violence cases, murder charges, etc, calling out Belichick seems a little crazy to me. The Harbaugh brothers are much the same, but they don't get nearly the vitriol.

I'm pretty sure it'll just be you and Patriots fans. But welcome to the side of light and tight spirals. :D

I much prefer a smart coach that can win. As long as he's not killing people, driving drunk, or doing other actually terrible stuff, I see the criticism as a waste of time.

And the Jets have zeroed in on the Seahawks' John Idzik for their GM position. I need to take a better look, but can't really argue with the Seahawks' last couple of drafts.

Wow nobody seems to be giving ATL a chance, every analyst online, talking head on tv and everyone I've spoken to is convinced SF is going to run away with this thing. Even in Vegas the public is pounding the Niners, the line moved from -3 to -3.5 to -4 and that hasn't deterred people from betting SF heavy...

I do feel like SF has the best all around team here and kapernick is going to be tough to stop on the indoor turf but.... I don't think ATL is going to lay down at home. SF played an amazing game last week from both sides of the ball, it's tough to play at that level 2 weeks in a row against quality opponents especially in the playoffs...... Plus you have to think that Atlanta's defensive coordinator didn't sleep this week coming up with a way to contain kapernick after GB didn't seem to have an answer for him

All that being said I still like SF, but don't expect it to be the cakewalk everyone is expecting it to be.

Atlanta has the monkey off their back of "always" being a loser in postseason so they are on a high right now. They will be fired up at home and show us why they got the #1 seed. Kap and company are going to have to play the game of their lives to win against Atlanta.

I don't think the AFC title game will be a cakewalk either. Anybody could easily go to the Super Bowl and it's not a done deal that it's NE and SF. What happened to those same talking heads who thought Green Bay would absolutely win the Super Bowl, also giving second bid to Denver? Right now, both Green Bay and Denver are out, and Atlanta has come back in a last second victory and Baltimore is still alive. Hey, it's football and whoever shows up more to play wins.

I get you. And does he really get more than everyone else? Maybe since I've been in Houston, I haven't noticed it as much.

As a Jets fan, I think he's an a** because of the way he left. And frankly, I'd feel the same about him if he went to any team. But resigning by reading a crumpled note 5 minutes after getting hired is being a disloyal douche also.

That said, everything else he does is wonderful. But, as you've said, with winning comes all the other crap. Much better to be hated for winning than to be hated for losing. :D

Also...you and Zioxide deal with a lot of crap in here and I have nothing but respect for the both of you. I know how hard it is and annoying to deal with all the haters. There's nothing wrong with being loyal to your team - it's not your fault you weren't born in NY. ;):D

It's all in good fun ;) I'd much rather be debating and discussing sports than politics or any of that other crap. In the end it is only entertainment.

And yeah, if you gave me the choice of either being the lovable loser (like all the Boston sports in the 90s) or being hated because we have won 7 championships between all four of our teams in the past 12 years, I'll pick the winning every time. ;)

I really can't stand the sports media most of the time anyways, so I think it's hilarious that Bill always gives them predictable, monotone answers. That's what they get for asking the same stupid questions over and over again. ;)

I feel the same way, but about baseball. This last Red Sox season sucked the life out of me, and I can't say I'm in love with the way our owners have handled anything since the 2007 World Series. They've behaved like a pack of douches, and it's disheartening. I'm hoping once spring training starts my love for the Sox will be rekindled, but right now, they're like a child of mine that keeps getting arrested. You still love them, but don't really like them.

I think so, yeah. But I fully admit I could be biased, since I consume a lot of Patriots coverage.

I can understand that. He could have handled that situation better for sure, although obviously the situation in New England was better in his mind, with having total control over personnel, as opposed to still having Parcells over him. I don't think he'll ever win any public relations awards, though. I haven't read his book, but I still don't know why he didn't just turn the job down outright and spare all the drama. To my understanding, NE had been trying to pry him away for awhile, and Parcells and the Jets kept saying no.

But yeah, I am sure that's a sore point for Jets fans. Understandable.

Well, he's no Gandhi. :D And neither are some Patriots fans. I know some of them are total douches, I've met them. Who was that jackhole poster here who was a NE fan? His username escapes me, but his favorite pasttime was being arrogant and pissing everyone off.

Thanks. I get it, for the most part. I wouldn't trade the winning at all, believe me. We're beyond fortunate, and I don't take it for granted. I have too many Red Sox seasons of futility burned into my mind. Like last year. And every year except 2004 and 2007. Especially 2001 and 2011. :)

And of course, football is cyclical, the Jets will have their day. Brady won't play forever (unfortunately). I always used to tell myself that about Derek Jeter when he was doing something annoying to me. It's a little gross how we have the Yankees/Patriots thing in common.

Either you were/are a dynasty or got very close so you know how it feels. You guys had the basic core to get four World Series championships had the suits in Boston took the team as seriously as the Yankees did. The Giants are in danger of being terribly mishandled.

By all accounts from any Giants fan I know, the 2010-12 Giants are not quite a dynasty and locking up at least an NL pennant and a couple of NL west titles in next two or three years, and maybe getting a pitcher within Cy Young consideration would give us that half a decade of goods to be considered one in many peoples' eyes like '90s Yankees who went four for five, or at least the Braves who won just one but were perennially a big threat in all of baseball for a good decade with three Cy Young pitchers.

Nobody will doubt the Giants of old with back to back wins, the McGraw years, the Willie Mays years, and stuff like that in Giants legend. Right now we are almost in same sentence as those great periods which put more players into HoF including Yankees. It would be a shame for any short term gain and lose Brian Wilson, Affeldt, Zito, or even Lincecum and then fall apart. We lost one of the best strikeout pitchers in Sanchez and losing Wilson two years later cannot be considered good for morale. We ditched so many players who were good hitters from the 2010 World Series squad but somehow rallied to win it all again in 2012, but nothing will let us dump good players yet again and get by in postseason again.

I don't foresee a 49ers dynasty again like the 80s/90s, or a Raiders John Madden run, or a threepeat with an Oakland A's of the '70s, and I am not pinning pro sports hopes on now decent Golden State Warriors or San Jose Sharks to start a new era. The only thing imho we have in terms of a potential dynasty is the Giants and if they piss away Wilson on a trade, it may be too much for that team and a long, long time until another dynasty in some other sport around here becomes a reality. The Yankees were smart in their '90s dynasty in retaining a core crew and it's something the San Francisco Giants haven't done, even in a short three year period of time.

Dynasties just don't happen in professional sports anymore with salary caps, free agency, and such. Each league has a handful of teams that do very well every year but there aren't very many teams winning 2 or 3 titles in a short period of time like it used to happen 30-60 years ago. 2 out of 3 is pretty much as good as it can be now.

Very true. Two is quite amazing but three, at least to me is a dynasty (3 for '70s Oakland A's, 3 for '90s Dallas Cowboys, 3 for '00s New England Patriots, 3 for '90s NYY). One title could be a fluke, but two in a short period definitely means that the team is at least a great one for the period, but three or more, as could happen in a decade like 49ers of old or Jordan Chicago Bulls are teams to be remembered for all time.

Not to be nitpicky, but the Yankees won 4 in 5 years: 96, 98, 99, 00 (WAY too much Patriots talk! ;)) That may be the last true "dynasty" we see.

And ironically, the Braves got "Team of the 90's" engraved on their 1 world series ring. And people think the Yanks are arrogant! :D
