All, I figured it'd be nice to have a consolidated thread with info for those waiting on a replacement for their 2012/early 2013 15" rMBP. Myself and many others are waiting on replacements that we were told we'd get. We're hoping they don't back out! I wouldn't get your hopes up though.

My Macbook was having battery issues but passed the in-store test that the genius guy conducted at around 80-81% capacity. He went in the back, checked parts and told me they were out of stock till September. I told him I need the Macbook working before then as I will be traveling all of August(Which isnt a lie) and in the notes of the case he approved a replacement. This was all on Saturday July 22nd.

I called the support number and asked about the status as I have not received my call confirming a replacement. The agent on the phone told me the shipment was on Fedex and gave me a tracking number. They didn't tell me however what model Macbook Pro is replacing my 2.3Ghz i7/8GB Ram/256GB SSD/ Nvidia GT640m 2012 Retina Macbook Pro.

I assume ill get a call today.

Wed, July 26th: Just got the call from the store. My replacement came in. I asked for the model which they couldn't tell me but the lady on the phone said it is a 2.7Ghz, 512GB model. Ill update my post when I go to the store later to pick it up.

I went yesterday. The genius clearly told me it was the last day of this program. They also said they will replace mine with the exact same mid 2012 model, which I suspect will change because it's not being refurbished anymore. Waiting for the call...

Question for you guys, are those dates for your CC the dates the charge showed up on your account or the date the charge was approved by the card company? For example mine was charged yesterday but was pending until today so my account technically says today even though I know it was charged and shipped yesterday.

Raplacement Model: 2017 2.9GHz/16GB/512 (Paid $400+$200 battery repair fee to upgrade the CPU and SSD)


They charged me the battery replacement fee and let me walk out with a new 2017 model that they had in stock. I was even able to upgrade it and paid the difference between the base and upgraded model.

They gave me the option to order one that was more exactly what I wanted, but I opted for the sure thing and left with it. I am curious to know what would have happened if I had ordered one.

My timeline was that it took 3 days for the store to get back to me. I was initially offered a 2015 model which they ordered (credit card details took), then a couple of days later (Tuesday) the store came back to me and said there's no stock and that they're getting me a 2017 one. That's all I've heard and haven't had any credit card charge so far.

To say I'm nervous is understating it!

Interesting, thanks. I wonder why neither the 800 operator nor the local store stated as such or offered any kind of shipping info (if that’s SOP in these instances).

In fact the local store did say something akin to “it looks like it hasn’t shipped yet...” after she told me those baseline specs during the call today, around 3pm Pacific.
