Thanks, man. I appreciate the sentiment. I am still pretty damn jaded even though this should have zero impact on my life. It’s the tease that’s killing me. Apple blue balls are the worst!
The worst is they said you'd get a new CRU but then they backed out. Ugh I would be so disappointed too :(

Now I'm nervous. They called me today and took my CC information. Said I was 100% good to go and would be called when my computer is shipping. Please Steve Jobs hear my cry!

So I got one 2016 with 512GB storage.

What was your original model?

Has your CC been charged yet? I've heard that it ships when the CC is charged! Can't confirm though... My card was charged this morning and I didn't receive a shipment confirmation.

Not charged - they TOOK my CC information today. I've had a lengthy discussion back and forth with the store and a senior rep with apple care. I am one of those people that honestly had a real issue. My battery is at 56% and dies constantly. We use this computer for our business. The past month it got REALLY bad so I took it in and then happened upon this information. I expressed that waiting weeks for a service part is really unacceptable as every day SEVERELY inhibits our productivity. I'm hoping the escalation of my case will push it through. But, the guy that said corporate denied it has me worried now. There are definitely other issues with my computer. The anti-glare coating is coming off and the top case hinge is loose. For them to back out on the replacement now would be a bit bogus in my opinion though.

WOW. Just saw this on Reddit. Guy had his CRU come in and apple said we're replacing your battery instead. Man, that's kinda bad form IMO.

Did you buy it new in 2012 or used after?

I have a friend that bought 6 old 2012 15 inchers of ebay. He replaced 5 of them with 2015 models at different apple stores and then pushed them back to craigslist. All in all a nice profit :).
He's super pissed that apple refuses to replace his 6th one. He's gonna lose money cause they took it in and are going to change the battery...

Im glad he will lose money. He’s the reason apple had to stop offering replacements.

I bought it brand new, with no issues until this recent battery debacle.

Its a shame you got denied while others gamed the system and killed the program.

Will they replace the battery for free or do you have to pay the 200?

Yeah your friend is the problem right there. Actual users that are having issues are now missing out on the generosity of apple.

I’m currently in the process of trying to figure something out with Apple directly. I gave up talking to the store. I will keep you guys posted.

I appreciate the compassion though. I have always been a loyal Apple guy. This was a genuine problem with my computer, and I just feel a bit jaded for getting my hopes up falsely. It’s good to know others feel the same if in my situation (my wife thinks I’m crazy for overreacting). Thanks guys :)

My wife thought I was being ridiculous stressing over it too haha. I feel you there. But, I definitely recommend trying to see if something can be done. They tried to tell me the refurb replacement was off the table but didn't give a definitive timeline for replacing my battery. I said thats unacceptable and the senior rep agreed and reversed the call to give a replacement. Now... I don't have one yet so who knows if its reversed again, but I don't plan to take it lying down.

I'm in the same situation. Went in to a California store at 2.15pm on the 25th. Let us know if you get anywhere...

For all those who had the work authorisations completed , call apple care and explain your situation. It really isn't fair. Having said that I understand that this was on Apple'a generosity but they agreed to give you something and you entered a contract with them for it. Make that point clear. Further, shame on that guy who messed it up for the rest of us who had real problems. 6 laptops? What a joke.

God that is such a quick turnaround time. Did they just lift it off the shelf?

Happy to report I picked up mine last night:

Current rMBP Model: 2012 2.7GHz/16GB/512GB
Date of appointment: Sunday July 23 2:45PM
Took credit card info: Sunday July 23 5:00PM
Credit Card Charged (replacement shipped): Tuesday July 25
Replacement picked up (or rejected): Thursday July 27th
Replacement Model: 2016 tb MBP 2.7GHz/16GB/512
Apple online repair status: No info available
I'm in the US

I have to say I've never had customer service like this and I'm really grateful to Apple. I was even on the fence about buying a new iPad and this experience just made me buy it. After waiting for months to bring my laptop in for repair I pretty much stumbled into this replacement program. Although it is bitter sweet because I really really liked my 2012 machine, never had any issues with it besides the battery (which has been bad for many months). Lots of differences with the 2016; new cables, no more magsafe, new keyboard (meh), etc. but overall I really cannot complain for what I got for $200!

That's such a good waiting time. I had my appointment 11 days ago and still waiting for my credit card to get charged, quite annoying that you lot are getting yours already!

Funnily enough, I was thinking of buying an iPad Pro if the device got replaced. I haven’t heard what the outcome of my case is yet (went in on 25th but still being tested as they couldn’t complete a test on the day). I don’t expect to get a replacement now though. I’ve had heat issues since the logic board was replaced as part of the graphics repair program. I had taken the device in after the logic board was replaced as the fans seemed on a lot and louder but was told it was running ok. Recently, I noticed that battery was underperforming but I wasn’t aware that Apple would even look at the device that was 5 years old, yet alone offer a free battery replacement or option to upgrade. When I took device in on Tuesday, the Genius said it was too hot and went down the safety/heatsink route rather than a fault with battery (even though battery service was indicated).

Unfortunately just got a call from my Apple store. Even though I was told I would get a replacement and they took my credit card details, they now said that won't be happening. Disappointed but c'est la vie!

As I posted in another thread, I got mine yesterday and was told to have been the last of around 10 at that particular store. Had I done it a day or so later, I wouldn't have got a replacement.

My 2012 rMBP would have turned 5 years old today, I feel a little sad for exchanging it so unceremoniously... best piece of tech I've ever bought. I wasn't expecting much of a difference with the new version, but wow! all the little changes add up to make for an awesome experience (especially the speakers!), cheers apple!

If you haven't already I would suggest calling them and checking in on it. Perhaps there was an issue processing the card? That seems a long time to wait
