Good question, but I don't think there's any way to know, alas. What I would like to know though is when will the 21.5" be displayed in stores? Same day they go on sale for pre-order? Same day they start shipping? Not until both 21.5" and 27" are available? I'd really like to go check out the display in person before ordering. What is the historical precedence for release date/vs. ability to play with one in the store?

my guess is that because there is a shortage only some stores will get it for display, like the major ones in cities

Apple Fan Boy

Spoke to an apple reseller today. He is expecting stock of 21" 3rd week of November.

I priced up a Mac Mini today online. Trouble is by the time you add the ACD it's not any cheaper. Thinking more about 2011 refurb if I can get the right price.

Trust me she would know!
She's only 11 so I don't think she would qualify for educational discount would she?

Hey man I remember speaking to you a few weeks back. I ended up buying a full spec mini. I think you in particular should buy a mini. Its not for everyone tho.

You don't have to buy a cinema display.

That monitor uses a samsung panel. I think the Cinema dis also uses a samsung panel. It's just not got the badge! Its a nice alternative.

See my reasons for why I switched:

It might help you decide!? maybe!?

I'm still going to wait it out (unless my windows box finally dies). I do some casual gaming and photoshop stuff and I think the lack of dedicated graphics would be a problem. I know there are some great screens out there but I'm sold on the all in one. I might buy a ODD but if I do it will probably just live in the drawer for 360 days a year. Even if I have to wait until January it's not that long considering I've been waiting since February already. Good luck with the mini and enjoy. Who knows I might end up going down this route for my daughter in a few years.

Does Apple always stop selling the current iMacs right after announcing a new line? Seems like a long time of lost sales as the 2011 models would be just fine for most people.

Wouldn't find me arguing against the Mac mini. Have owned one since Mk I in 2005. And also considered one this time round as I am always cautious with Apple new form factors and can imagine the new iMac having quite a few teething problems. But the deal breaker for me was the lack of discrete GPU in the mid-range Mac mini. I don't do heavy video editing (all amateur stuff really) but what litre I do benefits from discrete GPU. My 2011 Mac mini server couldn't cope with the work without discrete GPU so vowed never to go there again. Even though the integrated HD4000 is a vast improvement on the HD3000 of the 2011 variety.

No, they still sell them in the refurb section. Brand new machines at huge discounts. I wouldn't hesitate to get one of I could find decent sized SSD on one of them...

I was about to order yesterday a Mac Mini for me and it was due to be delivered in 4-8 business days, but I had to check one thing with my credit card and it was finally quite late and I left this thing to do for today. As I finally today got around to place the order I found the delivery date to be marked as between 3.-5. of December.

I thought this might be relevant for all you still waiting for iMacs, yesterday I took a closer look at the Mini and eventually decided it to be sufficient for my use.

Might just be a funny coincidence, but it also might be so, that they just booked a whole lot of products to be transported. This is probably another totally irrelevant guess based on the smallest of detail, but who knows...

Don't understand anything

In the US there are none 21.5" and only two 27" available in the refurbished section. Uk has none at all and other countries are quite limited also. I am starting to think that the delays with the 2012 production go much further than rumored. Looks like Apple ran out of the current models way before having the 2012 models ready to ship.

They would have switched over the production lines to the new model some time ago, so it is no surprise the supply of the old model has dried up. Obviously there are more teething troubles with the new model than anticipated.

Well, normally Apple has always made the new model available the day they're announced or immediately after. So, there usually isn't a period in between where nothing is available, and the old model is thrown into the refurb store.

I'm waiting for the 27" but is it just me who thought that the 21.5" would be out by now?

If the date the 21.5" comes out in November corresponds with the date the 27" comes out in December it'll be dangerously close to Christmas I'd imagine.

Maybe the delay to 2013 rumour has some truth in it.......

Calm down it isn't confirmed. Keep your hopes as low as possible, then you wont get dissapointed.

I am kind of past all that! Sort of calm which comes from having gone through a number of cycles of hope, anticipation, excitement and disappointment since April 2012 when I started waiting for this...
