I'm really starting to wonder if Apple will simply just drop the entire line of desktops by the end of this year. It's increasingly hard to find anything to the contrary.

The top of the line iMac is still the most powerful AIO on the market. Sheesh people. It's clear that 500 days ago apple made a product so good it didn't need a a refresh so soon.

nah, Apple said themselves the mac pro was getting a redesign in 2013 so not the entire line up.

Why are we freaking out? It's not even October yet. The rumors sites said nov-oct and October being the most likely date why are people saying that apple will drop the entered line of products

Almost right. Without any real competition in the category, they are milking the margins for what they are worth. Think about it. They charge the same price as the day the iMac 2011 launch, yet the majority of component prices have decreased in price considerably. It's classic tail product profit optimisation and Cook is the master of it. But lacks the strategic nous to understand the brand equity impact even to his iToy division.

I guess people are just getting frustrated at no new releases, but yeah October is the most likely date and pretty much the only one we have.

Could even be next week?!

9th or 16th seem like potential dates.

Then again I thought July 25th was, as well as every Tuesday since then up to today :(

What I don't understand

26th of October is w8 release date. In this context much interesting hardware will be released. Why will Apple release the Imac in this enviroment where MS investing much much money in publicity. Are they going with MS in an open field battle ?

Btw
For me this is the deadline: new iMac or Byebye Apple.
(To point out i like working with new systems and I don't need special Apple programs. On the other hand I appreciate the quality of my iMac and the Apple Hard-Software relation)

Drive type matters enormously. You've clearly never used an SSD--it makes your computer feel 10x faster

Don't get me wrong - I'd appreciate the difference, I just don't consider SSD a must-have since the speed is a trade-off against capacity & price. When SSDs hit 1TB and cost no more than twice a 1TB hard drive, then I'll consider it a must-have.

OMG, people, you need to calm the eff down. Apple still makes desktop computers (you can go to a store and buy an iMac today) and they're still revving OS X (Mountain Lion just came out a couple months ago). Desktop is still obviously a priority for them because I keep seeing iMacs in new movies and TV shows--why would Apple be promoting them if they don't want to sell them?

I want a refreshed iMac too, but something is wrong if a Tuesday passes without a new iMac and you do a whole "the sky is falling, Apple hates desktop users, I'm switching to Windows" thing.

10/31 is my personal dead line. I toyed with the idea of a different Apple computer, but I don't need a laptop or want one.

I will build a mini ITX box with an i5 3550, 8gb 1600mhz ram, a GTX 660 or 660ti, a 240gb Intel SSD, and get a Dell (or something comparable) 2560x1440 monitor and call it a day (was debating going with more OC friendly hardware, but after messing with that for a few years and noticing negligible real life gains in performance for what I do, I decided to throw in the towel on the whole overclocking hobby and to go with stock reference designs).

I really feel like an idiot and really feel like I shot myself in the foot. I had a decent rig and sold it preemptively. Now this means I lost money based upon rumors if I do just stick with Windows.

No one to blame but myself. That's what it boils down to.

I am moments away from clicking "Checkout" on my shopping card with NewEgg, but I will stick to my own self imposed deadline.

I hope things work out, because I really wanted to come back to OSX

Ok I am done complaining LOL :D

I miss the days when Apple updated there mac line ups every six months with the latest processors, even if they were minor spec bumps.

Yes. I agree. I remember the pre iDevice days (well sorta, the iPod just came out the year I bought my first Mac).

Indeed. I kind of wish the whole iPhone/iPad explosion didn't happen. Apple is all about the money now and that shows in the product quality, which is severely lacking these days.

I opened this PDF files by mistake and it weirdly jump to this. "Do not seek to have events happen as you want them to, but instead want them to happen as they do happen, and your life will go well." It made me feel better about the whole wait thing I hope it brightens your day as well

I've been wondering when the next major event is. We heard about the 9/12 event over a month ahead of time. The next one should be for the iPad mini and maybe... just maybe... we can hope something will be announced or hinted about the iMacs then.

nah if it got to Nov 2nd and still no news the 2012 iMac doesn't exist.

I agree. Unless we see some major evidence of a nov 2nd release date I don't think Apple would release anything after October. If there is nothing on November 2nd, I'm gettin a refurb 2011.
