The lack of ethics and what Apple has become boggle the mind.

They could pay them 3 times that and it would still be dodgy and they'd still make billions.

A bit off topic, but I completely agree. I never understood the greed of large companies. Of the amounts of billions apple earns every year, why couldn't they make the life of the poor foxconn workers more meaningful - they are completely dependent on them. if they spent 2 of their hundred billions earnings each year on Foxconn workers, each employee would get about 2000$ extra a year. That would have made a world of difference for them and would be a fart in the sea for apple.....its just about what Tim Cook earns a year. The greed makes me sick, too bad their products are so good...if not I would have held back buying Apple products out of disgust.

No, Foxconn is not Apple's manufacturing arm. They make products for every electronics company you've ever heard of. What makes you think that if Apple in particular paid them $2B extra, that any of that money would actually go to the workers? And meanwhile, Apple uses other manufacturing companies like Pegatron and you don't hear about their workers there committing suicide and rioting.

It seems there is definitely something rotten about Foxconn's management. Apple might have some limited influence over that because they are a pretty large customer but it doesn't seem right to blame Apple for Foxconn's flaws.

well I don't mean apple alone should fix foxconn, I guess its foxconns managment that are the big ******s. but all the companies hiring them should go together and demand better working conditions for the workers and better payment, they can afford it and have the muscles to back it up.

I am not blaming Apple per se in what they do, but I do firmly blame them for what they fail to do. Because that makes them indirectly responsible. Lets not be naive and think Apple can't influence component manufacturers' behaviours. They are the hottest ticket in town with the volumes they carry.

But by extension I blame us. Me included. We all want a 'bargain' and at a competive price. You wouldn't want to be paying 5 times what you would pay for GSIII or a Lumia. So Apple has to source its components accordingly. And has one of the most efficient ways of doing so. We should also acknowledge that we would all be whining like mad if Apple hadn't introduced a product that could rival Samsung's Galaxy SIII, especially if it was a few months late.

So us, the consumer, is the ultimate culprit. But that's what it is. Unlikely to change in a hurry. It reminds me in some ways of the dairy farmers and/or farmers and Tesco in the UK. Always stiffed by Tesco but everyone keeps shopping there. Because the price of the weekly shop is always going to take priority over social agendas for most people. Unless you want to be a tree hugger. I wish I could.

The root of the problem goes way back though - in the late 90s greedy corporations thought it was an easy buck to outsource to China and India to reduce costs by factors of thousands.

The thing is though that everything was working FINE before that ALWAYS. They didn't NEED to do it - they did it to increase profit. They weren't happy with the profit levels that existed and that all their forerunners were happy with.

The problem is though that it was a bad decision: they should have spent those decades building up jobs on the homefront not in China. They could have done it. US based manufacturing - don't tell me they couldn't be where China's manufacturing is now in 2 decades.

Instead the US is now locked in to China and could be held to ransom at any time, there's a recession with no jobs being created due to the outsourcing and the whole thing looks like a house of cards.

Anyway, Off-topic.... looks like no iMacs today...this is getting beyond a joke...

Stop getting your hopes up every tuesday -_-. Who knows if apple has sorted out any problems it may have with the iMac and if they have it ready to be released am sure they would wait until next month for the release.

Feels like we're approaching the breaking point where a newly released iMac would already be "old" in terms of technology. I'm now questioning if it's worth waiting any longer when you'd buy something that's going to be old tech shortly after, for cutting edge prices none the less.

Lets say they release the iMac today, and it features the following stuff:

Nvidia 680m, would be around 5 months old (released around june 4th).
Ivy bridge, 6months old (april 29th).

Not really a good starting point for a product that get's updated every 500+ days.

I guess it all depends on what you're replacing with it...

I said exactly this about 3 months ago and got slammed for it. As much as I laugh at the people who flamed me for it I am sad that it actually happened.

Same here. Was told not to do it to myself, drive my self crazy. But depending on what exactly is changed with 2012 iMac, it may be a very short cycle to Haswell speed bump in May next year.

You're missing the point - the angst is not about waiting every Tuesday, it's about whether it will be updated at all.

It will come eventually, but the Macs (and especially the desktop ones) are becoming such a small profit generator compared to the iDevices that they would not introduce anything that might effect current iPhone production at this critical point. Supply is dwindling and people are going crazy for iPhone 5.

Apple uses Foxconn for both Macs and iDevices. Right now I would imagine the new iPhone is stressing their manufacturing capacity as people seem to be completely nuts over it. I can promise the last thing Apple would want to do at this point is throw something new at Foxconn that could make them take the eye off the ball.

Once things eventually settle then you might see a little action on these less profitable lines.

For Apple these days, Macs are just a hobby.

There's a real niche here if someone can just start up a small company catering to developers and designers who care about aesthetics and whose Board does not want to dominate the world but just provide a beautiful product for professional people.

Hell, I don't even care if it ran OSX at this point - I can only see that morphing more and more into iOS and getting dumbed down to the lowest common denominator.

Someone needs to step up to the plate...how difficult can it be?

It's obvious to me now. Apple wants out of the desktop market. They want to be all mobile and that means their "beefy" computer would be the Macbook Pro and Macbook Air. No more iMacs. No more Mac Pros.

I guess that why Final Cut X got dumbed down so it can run on less intensive CPU's.

I guess that's why we still don't have word on Aperture 4 for us photogs. All updates of late have been iOS related. This goes for iPhoto as well.

I guess that's why iPhoto and iMovie for iOS sees more updates and features than the same apps for the desktop.

I guess that's why Apple's new Map app doesn't have a desktop counterpart.

I guess that's why iCloud on a normal website looks like it's from the 90's and has a terrible UI.

I guess that's why Apple isn't, or cant' be bothered, to communicate with its iMac customers about what's up.

I fear the Mac are going the way of the iPod Classic. Still for sale, but no mention of it.

Apple wants to be an all mobile company. Fine. So it shall be. My iMac mid-2010 will be up for sale this evening. I'll let Windows handle my heavy lifting, as Apple wants it to be.

I apologize if I sound bitter.

It has some features that are nice it cost less then the 2011 imac ,

but the graphics stink a 640m is a joke look how it compares to a hd6970m.

Other then price a 2011 imac is better in many ways.

right now i have been hard pressed to find a better all in one.

cpu + gpu needs to be a 3770s + a 680m or a 3770s and a hd7970m .

does anyone have a link to any pc company with an all in one that has that combo of cpu and gpu?

I think Apple understands that the whole ecosystem is needed for iphones and ipads to sell the amount it does. If they stopped selling macs, the iphone and pad sale would drop more and more over time. If I understand this, I think they do as well.

for me right now, seeing an iMac in october will be a really positive revelation. In my mind I've all ready prepared myself that something has gone wrong, apple screwed something up and iMacs have been set back. Dunno why, it's just a sudden gut feeling. I'll stop being so unpatient now, they've won the waiting game. If no new iMac comes out in october, I'll keep my current iMac for a while until another heavy job comes up - then I'll make a decision on what to do.

Again I suggested a break-up and was mocked. Strategically VITAL, the Mac business is no longer the main focus of Apple's board. Because their main priority (fiduciary duty) is shareholder value. So spin it out and put someone at the helm that cares about Macs. You can still retain a privileged relationship with the iToys business but at least you will start catering towards the people that gave Apple its cool. Namely academics and 'creative' types

Doesn't change the fact that Apple news AT LEAST annual updates for desktop systems. Unless, Apple is assuming their customers are dumb and will just buy the iMac they see in the store without checking the specs and just purchase because it's Apple. I'm pretty sure that's their thinking at this point.

And what about Logic?Without Logic i'll remove Apple .

Which in turn means one thing: they have jettisoned the developers.

They never assumed devs were dumb. Therefore they must not be catering to them.

Kind of makes sense if you realize that iToys are now the sole focus.

They still make, update and sell MacBooks, and they are NOT going out of the computer business because guess what makes the iPhone/iPad/iPod sell like cake? Apps. And what's the prime requirement to write apps? Have a Mac. I'd dare say that many new switchers are actually people wanting to cash in on the app market, rather than consumers frustrated with Windows as it was ten years ago.

This makes the whole thing even more annoying for those of us of prefer power over portability, because people are still buying laptops and getting addicted to the ecosystem (bringing revenues from apps, buying iOS devices that happily share stuff with their new MacBook via iCloud, etc.) and we're stuck.

But they are selling their "mobile macs", namely Macbook pros and Airs. THAT's their new definition of having a "Mac". That's why I'm saying they are done, or trying to be done, with desktops. They know people will pick up a "mobile mac" after trying the iPhone and iPad. Even Apple's own marketing images illustrate this fact, showing the 3 in tandem. We've been had fellas. The party is over.
