Why is everyone insisting they will release the new iMacs before the earnings report? Both Lion and Mountain Lion were released the following day, not to mention the new Mac Mini and Macbook Air last year with Lion.

It makes sense to start the new fiscal quarter with a new product or products. I think it could be the 30th of October.

Edit: They also announced the Apple Thunderbolt Display the day after their earnings call.

Just to echo this - major iMac refresh in 2009 when the 21.5" and 27" form factors were released... it happened the day after the financial call (also happened to be in October ;) ). Magic mouse and magic trackpad were released alongside the new iMacs. Major refresh including two new products - simple press release and thats it.

Now I feel it's too much for one month: iPad air, Macbook pro 13 retina, the new iTunes, the earnings report, and we're hoping something about the iMac.. And some for the mac mini!

Why? October just started today. Earnings call was announced which means a good chance of new products shortly after and rumors of another keynote show this month persist.

Everyone is saying on the rumor sites that it'd be an iPad mini event only which doesn't make sense to me and I highly doubt apple will announce anything after the earning call. There's also way too many products to be release. iPad mini, Mac mini, iTunes, imac, MacBook Pro retina, the iPods ugh I wish apple would just say a ****** date for the love of ***

Did you read my last post? They released new products after earnings call this year and last, and The Samurai pointed out an iMac release after the earnings call in 2009. However, having a press conference this month may complicate things. And I don't think a 13" retina Macbook Pro is coming this year. We'll just have to wait and see.

Actually, no, it isn't.

I'm sorry you've been conditioned to think that everything about computers will get twice as good every year and the old stuff will cost half as much. That was only ever the case for a few components, and that was a while ago.

The price of the monitor in the 27" iMac is basically... (price comparison here).
The spot price of raw aluminum ... (prices of stuff here).
So let's look at the components ... (more prices of stuff here).

So, yeah, Apple is TOTALLY RIPPING YOU OFF because they might be making about $40 more profit than they used to on the sale of a computer that costs $1200 to $1700. I can see why you're driven to swearing in all caps and bold print. (Actually, I can't. I'm being sarcastic.)

If you reckon an 18 month old computer isn't worth a price drop then I've got a really nice bridge to sell you!

I would guess that most people would rather not pay full price for 18month old tech when a new one is around the corner. There's more to a computer than its components.

I never said I expect things to get twice as good - that's your assumption. In fact, I'm not after much of an upgrade. I just want an upgrade! Any upgrade!

As for the swearing in ALL CAPS... Unless Biggest is a swear word, I'm not sure what you're talking about there.

And the use of bold was for emphasis in my post... What? I'm not allowed to do that? Settle Petal!

Anyway... If the news of an ipad mini event is true then hopefully they'll throw in a small announcement about the new iMac!

I´m starting to build doubts too :( But then I don´t understand what is going on in Cupertino these days.

Actually, I am really waiting for a new iMac.

I am currently using a ASUS Eee Netbook with 2GB RAM with an Intel Atom CPU N280 @ 1,66 GHz and Windows XP.

I am doing a lot with pictures and since half a year heavily video recording. I am not able to edit any of my videos on this little thing, I cannot even play anything better than 480p.

I want a desktop to be able to work on a big screen, but I am not willing to buy the old tech either. Although I am waiting as well for the new iMac, I don't think I will buy it right away when it will be available. I want it to be released ASAP so that it will be on the market for a few weeks befoe I get it to have all little beginners problems sorted out already!

I want a fast desktop, with max. RAM (16GB min. with an option of 32GB), a faster processor, USB3, and SSD as stock.

So, when is it finally coming???

I will wait until the tuesday after the earnings call. I will then have to buy something, so a refurbished low end 27 inch model may have to be bought.

Earnings call is one week after iPad event. If they launch a new iPad, they won't launch an iMac 1 week later, just like they wouldn't after the iPhone. It's either before the event, on e event or 2013/never. There is like I've said probably a 30% chance I'm wrong.

I don't think it's coming. Amazon is back to immediate delivery, along with Apple. Still no leaks. It's almost the holiday season when absolutely nothing gets done.

They have managed to get old stock because all their iMac come with 10.7 Lion...and not Mountain Lion. So it's certainly not a restock they got from :apple:

Well that comment is not selfish at all.. Yeah it's nice for you tell me about waiting for some of us who have been waiting since April computerless.

It's wasn't a comment it's a fact. Life is full of waiting and disappointment, don't shoot the messenger.

Apple have plenty of computers for you to buy, it's you that isn't willing to purchase. Try knocking on Ford's door and demand they sell you their next new model before it's been released.

Every rumor since June has indicated October, and NOW people are giving up hope? Hm.

what gives me doubts is that nothing seem to indicate anything today, probably not next tuesday either. Then apple will be all focused on the ipad mini, which I dont see coming out simultaneously with the iMac. After that, I think Apple is closing for the Season - enjoying their iProfits.

I feel that there are two dates left. The 9th and 17th of October. If no iMac is released after that date and no new rumors I think we can safely say that apple has, for some reason, chosen not to release an iMac in 2012

I am going on a business travel on Sunday for 2 weeks... So I wont buy until I am back anyway...

... unless the Airportshop at London Heathrow offers me a cracking deal.
