Apple, post-Jobs, has shown its indifference to those who stuck with it through the dark years: The loyal power-and/or-creative-user base.

I'm done with Mac.

They have managed to get old stock because all their iMac come with 10.7 Lion...and not Mountain Lion. So it's certainly not a restock they got from :apple:

I hate to burst your bubble but I just purchased a low end 27" iMac on sale at BB and the build date was the week of Sept 10th. It came with Mountain Lion. It is looking less likely we will get a new imac this year.

Every rumour I have seen has pointed to an October release...its now 2 days into October, we have heard info of invites for a apple product release and the date for the last financial information release, both with have history of having products released around it, we hear of less stocks everywhere, and of iMac glass rumours, new stock shipping dates etc.

All of this points to an October release, just like the rumours have always said, yes everyones getting worked up as its been kept quiet, maybe for once they have just not had any leaks and have something great to show us (lets face it, its not going to be WOW, but its going to be better than a silent spec update).

All I want is an SSD and a HDD and I'll be happy, even if its just a 64-128gb one for system files/scratch disk.

FYI the rumours have NOT always pointed to an October release or I would have bought one when I decided to move from windows to mac back in January. They were rumoured for march at the time, then early may, then WWDC in June, then mountain lion in July, then September and NOW it is October. There is nothin more concrete now than there was for the April rumour when the benchmarks appeared. Don't get me wrong, I really want one. But want does not make any rumour more likely to be true. This last ten months has taught me a valuable lesson but there is no way in hell I'm paying the same price for a machine released in may 2011 a probably on the drawing board in 2010.

It always pointed to October as a most likely month for update. There is a lot of people here that were jumping on each possible date or tuesday because of despair. Those of us who use more logic instead of heart knew that September would be iPhone month so it was unlikely to happen.

Of course you are right that there has been nothing concrete but after WWDC and Mountain Lion let-down, the next big date was always to be considered "some time" in October, not September.

We're only two days into October and people are already lamenting. It's 50/50, it can either happen or not happen, if nothing happens this month the chances are probably more like 10/90 in favor of 2013 update.

Now you're stretching. The link between the iPhone 5 and the new Nano was ... what exactly now? And the reason Apple never announced new Touches alongside new iPhones ever since they came out was..... ?

Ok. I'll bite.

The link between the iPhone 5 and the new Nano is.. the iPod Touch. And the iPhone 5 and the iPod Touch are linked by, of course, iOS 6, and the new screen.

Historically, Apple had done iPhones at WWDC and a music-themed event in Sept/Oct, and that's when new iPods came out. Then, last year, delays or desire to move to closer to holidays or both pushed the iPhone 4S to the time of the music event, and they also did basically nothing to the Touch so there was no reason to put it on the stage. This was the first year that they had new iPhones and new Touches to talk about at the same time. I expect this to be the new normal.

A smaller iPad is certainly something Apple needs to publicize but calling in reporters solely for a smaller, cheaper iPad does not seem particularly justifiable. Just as Apple tossed in iPods with the iPhone, it does not seem particularly extraordinary to think that they'd announce new desktop machines too ... especially if there is an iMac redesign forthcoming (eg no Superdrive) and not merely a component upgrade.

This argument comes down to "Because they talked about all of their sports car models at the same time, it wouldn't be a stretch for them to talk about their sedans and pickup trucks at the same." Well, yes, it still would. Not saying they won't do it, but there's still no precedent and it still would be out of character. iPad/iMac/MBP is a far more eclectic mix, with absolutely no underlying theme, than iPhone/iPods.

what do you think is the most likely release for the iMac.? I'm now thinking that being released along side the iPad mini is really the best option even though the only thing they have in common is being made by apple.

I think even if there is a new iMac apple inventory turnover is so high they have to continue to produce the old model?

It will be October. I'm somewhere around 80% before the iPad Mini event, 10% at the event, 10% after the event.

And I was just thinking and thinking trying to figure this out but in my opinion I think we'll see an imac with the October event, first and most importantly (let's be honest) there's no way an iPad mini will take a whole new event. If the iPods weren't introduced with the iPhone then we could have assumed that they would do them with the iPad mini but they already been introduced so is iOS 6 so there's nothing to talk about that I don't think they'd spend a whole event solely on the iPad mini period. People are saying silent spec bump on the imac , well this year it's definitely is going to be a new design and therefore they could showcase it at an event the reason we haven't seen an imac on stage the past years is because they just been spec bumps and no new design. And I know that in 2009 it's was a new design and no event but I think apple is getting a lot more publicity when they introduce a product with an event therefore they would put an imac in an event. Also it's rumored that the iPad mini will hit the shelf early November giving the imac at least two or more weeks of being introduced and available to purchase. There are some other factors why I think the new imac could be release on the upcoming event but then again nothing is for sure at this point I'm starting to lose hope but with this being said there's still a posibility. The next clue well get is when they send the invitation in next week then well have a better idea what's going to be introduced since they invitations usually give hints. Lets hope for the best

When he made the comment about something new for Pro's in 2013 re: the lack of any Mac Pro update, a day later he clarified that comment didn't apply to the imac. Either we get a new imac this year (time running out if not soon) or ?

..or also not in 2013. And that's ******** so: Hello 2012 iMac.

My hope with the new iMac is a tight relationship with the new iTunes rollout. How else to better celebrate the facelift than a new powerhouse iMac to run iTunes. Just a thought. We're all reaching here...

Oooh thanks for the black keyboard and mouse!

Wooo, I like the black mouse very much, very hot! And I think the black keyboard looks better like this than on a laptop. I don't know if it's just me, but I find the white frame doesn't go well with the aluminum back stand. However, I quite like the white against the white background. The frame sort of disappear and just seeing the screen looks very nice too. Good job.

I could only see a silent update of the iMac after the Earnings Call is if it is in the same form factor. But if it is in the same form factor, what's the hold-up?

I could see the rMBP 13 and an updated Mac Mini launched after the Earnings Call since the Mac Mini would keep the same form factor and we know an rMBP 13 is just a smaller rMBP 15.

I expect Apple will announce iTunes 11 at the iPad Mini event. They could also launch the new form-factor iMac there, as well, to show how this new iTunes looks and works on a Mac.

Well, the iMac could keep the same form factor, even if there's a new process for screen manufacturing. So, they could have experienced the lamination problems we've heard about, but still do a silent update.

the trouble is that Apple have already announced and demonstrated iTunes 11. So, unless they demo it again, they've really only got to announce that it's available.

Unless it's "here's iTunes 11, here are your options for the digital hub - iMac and MacMini. Here are your options for consuming that stuff - new form iPads (large and small) and MacBooks." But, that kind of thing takes away from the cloud message.

I just through a bottle in the endless ocean of the Apple Website on the iMac feedback page :

Hello

I have an old iMac 24" late 2006 at home for my work as a Teacher. I use Keynote and iMovie a lot and my computer is getting slow for the last versions (even after a 3GB memory upgrade). I cannot put Mountain Lion on it (too old) and my USB3 backup disks take hours to backup all my datas.

My question is simple :

Will you upgrade the iMac this year with latest technologies (USB 3 at least) ?
or
Will you drop the price of your current 2011 iMac which is heavily overpriced for its age ?

I know you LOVE secrecy, but we customers, still need desktop computers and need visibility when we spend such an amount of money in a computer.

I hope you will reply to me

Best regards

I think they don't respect their customers enough to answer...
But if a miracle occurs..I'll tell you ;)

One generation would make a huge difference if it were 1988, but these days it pretty much is almost irrelevant.

Let's look at the features people are hoping for from a refresh:

- Ivy Bridge vs. Sandy Bridge: maybe a 10% performance difference for applications that max out the CPU. Saves a few watts of power too but probably only amounts to $1-$2 on a power bill *per year*.

- USB 3: definitely a huge nice-to-have but not really necessary. Name one thing you *need* USB 3 for that can't be done with Thunderbolt (albeit for a somewhat higher cost).

- SSD: you can get factory SSDs with the current iMacs. If it's too expensive then you can fairly easily install your own using existing instructions and kits, or you can plug one in externally via Firewire or Thunderbolt.

- Reduced screen glare: nice, but people have been getting along fine for years with the current amount of glare. Reposition your desk or lights if you simply can't deal with the glare.

- Lack of optical drive: put a piece of tape over a 2011 iMac's optical drive and pretend you have a 2012 iMac. :)

You forgot about the GPU  , which will be a HUGE leap in performance. So stop acting like a smart*** .

----------

People are waiting for all those things combined. Sure if it were only 1, then whatever. But if you combine all the factors I just cant fathom you can be against it. Neither can Apple.

Also the nVidia 680 is a 50%
incr. in performance and whether you will admit it or not, there are people waiting for that as well.

More than that probably and good post.
