I think that's just confirming what we already know; whilst the base models are available to purchase now, BTO options are getting pushed back further and further. I just went through the same process and it said October 16.
They have managed to get old stock because all their iMac come with 10.7 Lion...and not Mountain Lion. So it's certainly not a restock they got from![]()
Apple, post-Jobs, has shown its indifference to those who stuck with it through the dark years: The loyal power-and/or-creative-user base.
I'm done with Mac.
Every rumour I have seen has pointed to an October release...its now 2 days into October, we have heard info of invites for a apple product release and the date for the last financial information release, both with have history of having products released around it, we hear of less stocks everywhere, and of iMac glass rumours, new stock shipping dates etc.
All of this points to an October release, just like the rumours have always said, yes everyones getting worked up as its been kept quiet, maybe for once they have just not had any leaks and have something great to show us (lets face it, its not going to be WOW, but its going to be better than a silent spec update).
All I want is an SSD and a HDD and I'll be happy, even if its just a 64-128gb one for system files/scratch disk.
I hate to burst your bubble but I just purchased a low end 27" iMac on sale at BB and the build date was the week of Sept 10th. It came with Mountain Lion. It is looking less likely we will get a new imac this year.

FYI the rumours have NOT always pointed to an October release or I would have bought one when I decided to move from windows to mac back in January. They were rumoured for march at the time, then early may, then WWDC in June, then mountain lion in July, then September and NOW it is October. There is nothin more concrete now than there was for the April rumour when the benchmarks appeared. Don't get me wrong, I really want one. But want does not make any rumour more likely to be true. This last ten months has taught me a valuable lesson but there is no way in hell I'm paying the same price for a machine released in may 2011 a probably on the drawing board in 2010.

here it says that those iMacs you order come with Mountain Lion
Now you're stretching. The link between the iPhone 5 and the new Nano was ... what exactly now? And the reason Apple never announced new Touches alongside new iPhones ever since they came out was..... ?![]()
A smaller iPad is certainly something Apple needs to publicize but calling in reporters solely for a smaller, cheaper iPad does not seem particularly justifiable. Just as Apple tossed in iPods with the iPhone, it does not seem particularly extraordinary to think that they'd announce new desktop machines too ... especially if there is an iMac redesign forthcoming (eg no Superdrive) and not merely a component upgrade.
screenshot or it didnt happen ^^
This argument comes down to "Because they talked about all of their sports car models at the same time, it wouldn't be a stretch for them to talk about their sedans and pickup trucks at the same." Well, yes, it still would. Not saying they won't do it, but there's still no precedent and it still would be out of character. iPad/iMac/MBP is a far more eclectic mix, with absolutely no underlying theme, than iPhone/iPods.

what do you think is the most likely release for the iMac.? I'm now thinking that being released along side the iPad mini is really the best option even though the only thing they have in common is being made by apple.
, if nothing happens this month the chances are probably more like 10/90 in favor of 2013 update.
When he made the comment about something new for Pro's in 2013 re: the lack of any Mac Pro update, a day later he clarified that comment didn't apply to the imac. Either we get a new imac this year (time running out if not soon) or ?
Oooh thanks for the black keyboard and mouse!![]()
..or also not in 2013. And that's ******** so: Hello 2012 iMac.
I could only see a silent update of the iMac after the Earnings Call is if it is in the same form factor. But if it is in the same form factor, what's the hold-up?
...
I expect Apple will announce iTunes 11 at the iPad Mini event. They could also launch the new form-factor iMac there, as well, to show how this new iTunes looks and works on a Mac.
Hello
I have an old iMac 24" late 2006 at home for my work as a Teacher. I use Keynote and iMovie a lot and my computer is getting slow for the last versions (even after a 3GB memory upgrade). I cannot put Mountain Lion on it (too old) and my USB3 backup disks take hours to backup all my datas.
My question is simple :
Will you upgrade the iMac this year with latest technologies (USB 3 at least) ?
or
Will you drop the price of your current 2011 iMac which is heavily overpriced for its age ?
I know you LOVE secrecy, but we customers, still need desktop computers and need visibility when we spend such an amount of money in a computer.
I hope you will reply to me
Best regards
One generation would make a huge difference if it were 1988, but these days it pretty much is almost irrelevant.
Let's look at the features people are hoping for from a refresh:
- Ivy Bridge vs. Sandy Bridge: maybe a 10% performance difference for applications that max out the CPU. Saves a few watts of power too but probably only amounts to $1-$2 on a power bill *per year*.
- USB 3: definitely a huge nice-to-have but not really necessary. Name one thing you *need* USB 3 for that can't be done with Thunderbolt (albeit for a somewhat higher cost).
- SSD: you can get factory SSDs with the current iMacs. If it's too expensive then you can fairly easily install your own using existing instructions and kits, or you can plug one in externally via Firewire or Thunderbolt.
- Reduced screen glare: nice, but people have been getting along fine for years with the current amount of glare. Reposition your desk or lights if you simply can't deal with the glare.
- Lack of optical drive: put a piece of tape over a 2011 iMac's optical drive and pretend you have a 2012 iMac.![]()
People are waiting for all those things combined. Sure if it were only 1, then whatever. But if you combine all the factors I just cant fathom you can be against it. Neither can Apple.
Also the nVidia 680 is a 50% incr. in performance and whether you will admit it or not, there are people waiting for that as well.
You forgot about the GPU, which will be a HUGE leap in performance
