How do you know it will be 90 minutes?

We all know how long Apple can really spend on demo'ing the likes of iPhoto and software.

Well, Apple events normally last 90 to 120 minutes... but you have a point, the iLife neverending demos are something that my brain had blissfully erased.

there's definitely something more than the iPad mini

No no, im with you on this. No doubt new Macs will be released this month. I was simply referring to the previous poster who suggested that 'surely apple can't hold a 90 minute iPad mini event'.... its Apple, they can lol. They can drag it out like theres no tomorrow :D

Hahah ok sorry if mis understood

Sorry just a lurker, but I just wanted to point out that I've never seen a thread move like this one ever in my life!

Upcoming Keynote structure:

- How well the ipad is doing since launch
- How its making peoples lives magical
- Show a video to make the audience go "ooooo" and "aaaaa"
- Telling us how they seen a gap in the tablet market and BOOM - Mini iPad announced
- Spewl for 20 mins about the hardware (80% smaller, 80% thinner *yawn yawn*)
- Bring on Scott F and talk about how much of an arse hes made of Siri & Maps and how the mini ipad will change your life
- Bring on a large developer (EA?) to showcase dedicated iPad Mini app (#fragmentation)
- Phil Schiller comes back to announce release dates, pricing, availability
- Show the Mini iPad video ads
- Tim Cook comes on stage to conclude
- Music
- Goodbye.

- Oh, and one more thing...

- Oh, and one more thing...

I think the days of those are over. Even if they weren't, the iMac isn't important enough to get "one more thing" status. It'll be casually introduced at the beginning when talking about the Mac or silently later in the day if it happens on keynote day.

My money's on a quiet update shortly after the earnings call, just like in 2009. Whether that means the 26th (Friday, unusual) or the following week, who knows.

The only way I see them mixing iDevices and Macs at the same event is if they try to tie them together with iTunes, as someone suggested. Even that is a big stretch. As others have said, Apple likes to have a strong, consistent message at these things, and so far has never mixed major Mac releases with iDevice releases.

It seems clear that production issues are pushing this release past its original intended date. Let's hope that doesn't mean this iMac is the next white iPhone 4. If the end of October comes and goes due to continuing issues, I could still see a small possibility of squeaking in before Thanksgiving week. If they are in stores by Black Friday, that should be enough to catch most holiday sales. If not, no 2012 iMac.

Quick question - many people have been saying that if new iMacs don't come out before the end of October, they would definitely not come out before next year. Would anyone care to explain why?

Saying that, at the wwdc they announced MacBook Pros and iOS 6. So maybe.

That's because speculation on this forum is often repeated like some sort of mantra, until everyone's convinced that it's the truth. And when the speculations turn out to be, well, speculations, there's a lot of disappointment and even anger.

Because once Apple's holiday lineup is set, they tend not to change it, especially since all their ads are based on that lineup as it sits around the beginning of November. Ads of the quality Apple typically releases don't need huge lead times, but neither are they made in the space of a weekend. Beyond just ads by Apple, their entire retail distribution chain (their own stores plus all the AARs) is set up to stay on-message throughout the holiday shopping season and not deviate from it, and Apple has not historically thrown curveballs during that time. All those pitches, all those graphics, all those point-of-purchase displays... that stuff isn't created, distributed, and sales-staff-trained overnight.

That said, it's true that they could change this at any time. It's not impossible for Apple to spring a "December Surprise." It's just improbable. Though, leaving the iMac to languish for two years (or more) between refreshes seems improbable too, so take that for what you will.

When was the last time we saw an actual "one more thing"? Last one I remember is facetime when they had the keynote for the iPhone 4.

Well, I was looking for a 2012 Imac and last night I went to Apple and bought the baseline retina mbp. I have no info, but I think we would have heard something by now about the imac. And after bringing home the retina pro, i think i made the right decision for me. The screen looks really good in the stores, but once you get it home it looks INSANE. Im using the icy blue background with the trees and it looks amazing. It plays starcraft 2 extremely well, which is about all i need in terms of gaming performance. I was getting 100 fps with everything on high, resolution was 1280xsomething. I might try and bump the resolution. I don't need ultra settings.

I also love the look of the 27 inch standalone screen, so i may add that down the road and have the best of both worlds. Then i can just update the mbp every 3-4 years. I'll add a thunderbolt hd as well.

I am mainly using it for digital performer, and I will admit dp7 didn't look stunning on it, you can tell it hasn't been optimized yet, but im sure that will come soon and its not like it looked bad, just not as ridiculous and the background. I also had sc2 running in the backgound while i had dp7 up and running and the computer didn't even flinch.

LOL... this is hilarious. You're good. :D

I'm no "hardcore gamer" (what does that even mean anyway lol?) but I enjoy the occasional PC game every here and then. I actually have a nice collection of Steam games, and am looking to play Borderlands 2 soon. I really would love to game on a new 2012 21.5" iMac because personally, I think that screen size is the sweet spot. However, if nothing is announced by the middle of October, I'm gonna get myself a rMBP. It's more than capable of handling my computing needs as well as the occasional stint of gaming. In plus, the GT 650M trumps the HD 6770M, which is why I've held back on picking up the current iMac. You could also increase the screen real estate by simply just bumping on the resolution, so you actually get the best of both worlds. The end of October cannot come any sooner! I hope you enjoy your purchase, congrats!

EDIT: Oh, I'm also gonna spec bump the rMBP if I get one, because the baseline just won't cut it.

Books. That's the common theme between iPad Mini and desktops. We've talked about Apps. And the need for horsepower to write Apps but multi-media textbooks need desktops even more. Has there been any rumours about the iPad mini having better readability (be it e-ink technology or anti-glare)? Because if that emerges, that could be the link.

Right, but they didn't introduce Macs and iOS devices. WWDC is all about developers. And what do developers need? They need to know about the next version of iOS so they can update their apps accordingly; and they need Macs to run Xcode. That's exactly what was provided at WWDC (with desktop Macs notably missing from the new computer lineup).

Like I said, I think the iTunes tie-in between iMacs and alleged iPad minis is much weaker, and therefore far less probable. Education also seems highly improbable, especially given that October is a couple months late for back to school. Hope all you want, it ain't gonna happen.

Every Tuesday have been "defiantly the date" right ?

I'll assume the misspelling of "definitely" was intentional, because "defiantly" is a wonderful play on words. Yes, every Tuesday has been defiantly the date of the new iMac release. Every Tuesday has defied our beliefs of the kind of neglect of a good product that a company is capable of.

Advice - 2011 IMac in the shopping cart, ready to click buy

Patience is not one of my virtues and I've been eyeing my wife's 2010 IMac with envy since she got it last year. I've been following these forums daily, several times a day in fact, and I'm at breaking point.

I've put a spec'd out 27" IMac current model in my Apple shopping cart - 3.4 GHz, 16GB RAM, upgraded HD and graphics card - the works. I KNOW this machine will more than blow me away. My MBP (mid-2009) is starting to have HD issues and I'm going to need to take it in probably within the next few weeks.

I know waiting will eventually get me the newest IMac (or Apple's newest version of a desktop) but I'm honestly sick of waiting and now that my current machine is acting up I want to get a Mac sooner rather than later.

The 2011 IMac is a wonderful machine and I would love to get it, my only fear is that right after the deadline for returning it the "new" IMac/new desktop will come out with an awesome new feature that I'll regret not having. A spec bump is not enough to make me regret pulling the trigger on a 2011 model.

My question - what are the chances that whatever comes out in the next few weeks, if there is one coming out, that it will have a "killer" feature that would almost make all older IMacs seem almost obsolete?

I know this is a rumor site and nothing is for certain but any comments are welcome.

Thanks!
