Launching a "new" iMac with a 6 month old processor is a joke. Full stop. It should have been released 6 months ago.
Intel was late with Ivy bridge and when they finally released Ivy they are already in spreading the rumor about Haswell...According to their road map for Haswell...Intel plan is Q1/2013 announcement and end of Q2/2013 release....This info I actually have in their road map and I would like to show you Intel confidential PPT but I cannot...maybe i take one or two slides to show...;)

Originally Intel wanted to release Ivy for desktop much sooner but they was late...And longer time is passing Intel starting to make more and more launch delays..People from Intel who gave us presentation was even joking about delays that they have..This delay will hit Haswell as well....So to answer your question you will buy refreshed iMac or you will need to wait at list 9-10month before you get one with Haswell CPU in it.

Why is everyone so pumped about haswell? Its going to be a much smaller bump from Ivy to Haswell than Sandy to Ivy.
The main advantage is power consumption and the onboard gfx.
Ok the power will translate to leee heat etc, but its not an amazing jump.
Haswell will be great in rMBP, but in an iMac with a gfx card, i bet the difference won't we worth paying £££ for.
Not to mention with intels record, the April release of the mobile processors will get pushed back, in turn desktop processors will be pushed back and then we can all argue if we should wait for skylake.

26th October is the Windows 8 release, with much new hardware, I do not think, that Apple brings a new Desktop Computer in this time on the market.
If they do it, either they want a confrontation with MS or Apple is mad. My tip mid of November when the W8 hype is flattening and the W8 bug coming to surface.

Anyway, i ordered today a windows PC, I don't see a future in Apple Desktop Computing. ( No office 2013, cost <-> use, upgradebility.......)

Best regards, have fun!

I don`t understand why u don`t see future in Apple Desktops. I was meny meny years PC user, always was buying PC desktops and then I had two PC laptops. I have never upgraded my PC desktop, just bought new one. If u have a PC desktop for few years for me it is too late for upgrading it. After few years you can have faster CPU, GPU, RAM, BUS etc. so you have to buy NEW computer :) For me, if I buy a new imac, I will have it for few years and then I will buy another one. So I don`t understand someone problems with imac upgradebility.

You said no office 2013. I don`t see problem with that also, because most people are using doc files, I didn`t see any documents with docx ( maybe only me). So maybe you like to have every year new interface?

I hope that new imacs will be soon.

What did I say ealier ? I said soon you'll see people wanting the iMac rumors to be false because they just simply don't want their machine to look outdated. Here it is guys. It's people like this that I always talk about.. With all the negativity and ignorance then they call me crazy and I'm going nuts but saying somethig like "in a strange way I don't want to be a iMac in October so Edry flips out" that's just sick and maybe you're the one that needs to look into yourself sir.

Yeah, there has been a lot of negativity from posters going ape-feces and telling others to "gtfo". Whatever that stands for.

But just out of curiosity, since you didn't answer his question, what are you going to do with the new imac?

I do videography/photography/heavy Vfx stuff also Audio production. Wanted to get the Mac Pro but then they did the stupidest "update" (don't even get me started on that) then they are pushing it till next year I can't wait that long. I have a bunch projects of back up since I don't have a computer, I'm also almost out college so I'm trying to build a strong portfolio . I don't have a lot of money coming my way I'm not like some kids that their parents pay for everything, I pay for everything myself even college, with that said I neeed the best computer that I can afford but that also means that I can't just go and blindly buy a 2011 machine because is just not worth what apple is asking for right now. I need to make the best out my money and maximized it and buying a 2011 machine is definitely not the way to go. If worse comes to worse ill buy a retina MacBook Pro and then sell it. when the Mac Pro or iMac comes out and lose money that and deal with the whole re installing things and moving files and installing plugins these are some the reason why I haven't purchase a current machine. But I'm hoping the iMacs comes out because I really need that nvida card since is good for video production, not only that it'd have the latest processors which ill be happy to pay premium price for. So when they do come out ill buy a maxed out iMac. I really really hope they come out I guess will find out soon

Love your user name btw been wanting to say that "CoreyLahey" Ricky called himself that from trailer park boys. "Jim Lahey drunk bastard" lol

Hey man didn't mean to offend. I wasn't trolling honestly. I read your latest post about you using it for audio production and a portfollio. I understand that legit. I use ableton and my cpu is always glitching out on big projects.A new imac would be nice, im running an 09 pretty standard. But not essential I can work around.

I was trying to make you see a bit of perspective. I mean its not as if your waiting on apple for a liver transplant. (I have a friend who is.)

I find that if I stop thinking about things I want it makes the waiting easier. Its funny its almost like looking at something ur thinking of buying, waiting a month and then deciding not only do you not want to buy it you wonder why you ever considered it in the first place. I Know a computer imac is a bit dif but its the same ethic. Im sure we have all been there.

Its like fight club

the things you own start owning you. In your case its the things you don't own!

Id like it if you did an unboxing of your new imac. But if it doesn't come out ill take a rant.

What comp are you running atm?

Stay KooL

If the imac does not get a release this month i recommend you to go for a cheap 2009-2010 quad mac pro, used one of course, you can find ones that have their ram maxed out to 16gb or more. Then you can swap the GPU for a 570GTX any desktop class will do buy a Cinema display and you will be set for a year at least. You can even buy some SSDs. By then the new mac pros should be out already in a new form factor. Then you can resell the MP tower without the GPU. You will get not very much but you will get some to help you buy a brand new MP.

In the worst case scenario you can actually swap the quad processor on those machines for a 6-core processor and even put in more RAM.

Thats the way ill be going if no new imac comes out this month, it will give me a more powerful computer for about the same money of a maxed out imac.

The 570GTX performs as good as a new 680GTX on gpu intensive applications, like AE's new ray-trace rendering feature.

You're actually the first one to get the Trailer Park Boys reference or at least the first to comment on it ; )

I totally understand not wanting to buy last year's hardware, I wouldn't want that either in your situation (or mine), but a friend who works in video production bought a high spec imac 5 months ago and is quite happy with it. Maybe a refurb imac would be the better alternative, than a retina Mbp?

Hopefully there won't be need for any alternatives though, and we can buy the new imac within the next 2 weeks.

Yes I agree but I'd rather a new iMac new then them waiting another 6 months for the Haswell CPUs :)

Even if we get new iMac's one the 23rd I don't see them shipping quickly, it might be November before we get them.

I hope it will be at least 50% thinner. My desk cannot afford to have a computer as thick as the current iMac on it.

Hope that was a joke, I'd still like DVD but can live without it if I have too. Just get the USB one.

IMO if we get a redesign we might see a 10-20% thinner case, I'd like better cooling over dramatically thinner case.

Looks to be coming

Know we have said this before BUT Amazon.co.uk is now out of everything except one 21 inch version, they have just reduced the Mac Mini to £450 and I am struggling to buy one at all from the UK's biggest high street stores for computers- Currys / PC World. This would be a very strange state of affairs for a current product and not one that is brand new where you would expect a run on it.

Strange. Shop items on the Apple store no longer gives a delivery date. Just says within 5 days after shipping. This goes for all store items not just iMacs and seems worldwide.

So now, it's not possible to see when they will ship, until you actually order.

Also, the stores that run out, don't give an availability date either but instead states: check Cart.

This COULD be Cooks doubling down, or it could be Sunday lags. If its the former, annoying, now what will I do every day for about an hour??

yes this is no state of iMac for christmas sale. We'll definately see an update now...

or maybe it is tuesday ? so now its actually ready to shop next week.

Sorry to spoil the lack-of-stock hope, but the Spanish Apple store has full stock of all iMac models, ready for immediate shipping.

I don't think any of you quite got my post. You have to type In a postal number, and see the delivery date. There no longer are delivery dates. This isn't new iMac related, they changed the design/info you get from their site. This applies to all products, not just iMacs.

All these weird out of stock and delivery dates seem to mean that there will be indeed a refresh.

However, those are the only real facts who indicate a new release...( at least what I heard of em)

I do hope that there will be a refresh this month, but I just don't see it happen in 2012. Then again all the above seem to match a new release...

I'm so confused about this whole new iMac thing, some are saying they are goin to stop the mac line, then there's this 'great thing for pro users in 2013'.

Belgium's Apple store does have all the iMacs in stock, so after all, I simply don't know what to do, waiting seems te right thing.

Also this whole iPad mini thing just seems so lame, is there actually a real reason why they're goin to release those with new iMacs?

I just think they're goin to be expensive for just what it is and with a few more euros you'll goin to be able to buy a regular iPad which I prefer anyway...So this whole tablet war is kind of lame for such a big company.. then again money seems to be important these days...

I do hope it's coming this month, but Spring 2013 seems the right date after all. And if not spring then it'll be def this month with a silent update...

that's all.

So Apple should only launch product towards processor plans? Maybe they believe launching a product with 6 months old screen technology is a joke. Maybe 6 months old GPUS technology is a joke. Maybe 6 months old connectivity technology is a joke. Maybe you gave your entire argument away by not giving any rationale, and thinking that to type "full stop" gives you any credence whatsoever. Maybe, that logical fallacy made your post a joke.

I don't think you understand what a logical fallacy is. And if you don't understand the meaning of terms, you probably shouldn't use them on message boards. Makes you look a little silly.

----------

How do you launch products that have technology only launched in the last month? You don't.

Uhhh, what? Is that your attempt at sarcasm? Just about every PC manufacturer on the planet (besides Apple, apparently) launches new desktops almost IMMEDIATELY after Intel releases new chips. Is this really news to you? Ivy Bridge desktops were available way back in April.

It's a logical fallacy to generalize the property of one entity to the sum of all entities containing the first mentioned entity. Look it up.

Also you in no way responded to my argument. How do make a product where all the technologies contained in that product are completely new. A PC consists of many technologies. If you launch an Ivy bridge CPU PC at its launch date, you will ship it with almost year old GPUs. Why isn't that product outdated and a "joke".

Whenever you make a product you make it with the most current hardware there is. Sometimes the GPU is newer than the CPU other times its the other way around. How are you not getting this?

----------

Also, are you upping your own posts?
