I can see your point, but I don't really 'need' a MBP right now... So I am willing to wait until the 2012 upgrade. I just hope there are some major upgrades worth waiting for, because if it's just another processor upgrade ect; I'd of wished I'd bought the MBP 2011 back in February :apple:

Same here. It's not like I wouldn't use it, I just don't really need it right now, I'll need it in late summer but one thing is for sure I really really want one and I will buy it immediately so hopefully it comes out really soon.

Just Dual Core MacBooks

Is it possible that Apple are waiting till June because all new "thinner lighter" Macbooks will only have dual core processors?

Say it ain't so!

Of Course it's possible but may be they are just waiting for WWDC, no way to know for sure

Amazon.co.uk have dropped the price of the 13 inch MBP down £50 today.

Been watching this price since Christmas and its never been this low.

Its now only £30 more than a refurbished one from Apple.

£120 less than Apples RRP.

Well spotted, its probably just amazon presumming there'll be a new one released soon.

I've also seen the price of the 13" MBP drop on another site.

Apple updated the OSX version; new MBPs tomorrow. Last two refreshes were early morning Thursday's.

I wish

The last two refreshes were not both on Thursday... Only one was. I seriously can't wait for these new Ivy bridge and hopefully redesigned beasts. I'm still running a 2.16ghz core duo and its seen better days throughout these past six years.

Seems plausible! Updated OSx to optimize it for the new line until mountain lion.

Here's to hope:)

Hardly. Perhaps the iMac gets refreshed tomorrow with the new Ivy Bridge processors, but I don't believe the MBPs will.

And let me explain why I don't believe it. The Ivy Bridge processors which will equip the next MBP are not out yet. The laptop processors released so far are quad-cores with a TDP of 45W; only one of them has a TDP of 35W, and Apple usually uses two dual-core processors with a TDP of 35W for the 13". Apple probably can't put a 45W processor inside a 13" MBP, unless there is a redesign which allows it. But Apple won't release a redesigned MBP without a media event. Conclusion: no MBP tomorrow.

Going to have to find the link later, but I'm sure the dual core chips are being delayed to clear Sandybridge inventory of dual core chips. If that is the case, then Apple could easily get hold of them as it's not retail. Especially when you consider they got SB 1 week early last year which suggests a reasonably cordial relationship with Intel.

The media event thing, I can't disagree with. I would be shocked if Apple did a quiet redesign or retina display upgrade. I could however, foresee a simple spec upgrade to Ivybridge tomorrow. I'm not going to get into a debate how likely a spec upgrade is vs complete redesign. It has been done to death.

Edit:
http://news.softpedia.com/news/Intel-Delays-Only-Some-Dual-Core-Ivy-Bridge-CPUs-253767.shtml

"More precisely, due to the large supply of Sandy Bridge central processors, the Santa Clara, California-based company is putting off the release of dual-core mobile units."

"The supply of Sandy Bridge CPUs is said to be so high that not only are vendors overstocked, but also even Intel's own warehouses still have shipments that, had sales been better, would have been sent out quite a while ago."

This topic is over 100 pages in lenght and, despite some rumors, no refreshed MBP has been released so far. And rumors have just stopped for a while. And the MBP has been updated less than 200 days ago - we would have some 2 more months to go before the average time of new releases. There is no evidence, nor even a credible sign, that new MBPs are about to be released. We're just picking several unrelated facts and turning them into evidence that MBP is around the corner. How desperate is that? Shouln't we be more down to Earth and stick to what is real?

I agree with you that it is not impossible for Apple to release new Ivy Bridges tomorrow. But is it likely?

Wow, what the hell, Intel?! Don't you know that I'm waiting for a new computer? How dare you delay release of dual-core IB processors?! ;)

Seriously, that's good news to my ears. I'd rather hear that the procs are ready, just not being shipped due to overstock of SB. It'd be sick if Apple could pull off an early release of dual-core IB MacBook Pros.

Lion:
  • Developer Preview 1 : February 24 (day 1)
  • Developer Preview 2: March 30 (day 34)
  • Developer Preview 3: May 13 (day 78)
  • Developer Preview 4 (+ Release date and pricing announcement): June 6 (day 102)
  • Golden Master: July 1 (day 127)
  • Release (+ new Macs released with it preinstalled): July 20 (day 146)

Mountain Lion:
  • Developer Preview 1: February 16 (day 1)
  • Developer Preview 2: March 16 (day 29)
  • Developer Preview 3: April 18 (day 62)
  • Developer Preview 4: May 12 (day 86)
  • Golden Master : June 6 (day 111)
  • Release : June 25 (day 130)

italic = predictions following Lion's gaps between releases

Predicted dates however don't take into account the fact that Mountain Lion's Development seem to go faster than Lion's on average, so actual dates may be slightly sooner.

At this pace, the final version (Golden Master) will be ready for WWDC (June 11-15), so chances are that they will announce new Macs that will ship with Mountain Lion preinstalled.
