The last two refreshes were not both on Thursday... Only one was. I seriously can't wait for these new Ivy bridge and hopefully redesigned beasts. I'm still running a 2.16ghz core duo and its seen better days throughout these past six years.

Haha, I thought I was the only one in this forum with a 2.16 CD !! I never thought that it would last me this long to be honest, but after almost 6 years and two new OS installed on top of the others ( Tiger -> Leopard -> Snow Leopard ) it's still going strong ! I hope that my next MBP will serve me just as well as my current one :)

I'm still going strong with my base-model 2006 MacMini, 1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo (with RAM upgraded to 2GB). It still works fine, no problem there, but it's getting tediously slow here and there, so I think it's about time I get an update. Wanted to get one earlier this year, but then I heard about the Ivy Bridge and possible redesign. "Eh, might as well wait, not in a hurry."
I really do need it by September though. Uni starts then, and it'd be nice if you had a laptop when studying computer sciences/ICT/whatever.

Edit:
http://news.softpedia.com/news/Intel-Delays-Only-Some-Dual-Core-Ivy-Bridge-CPUs-253767.shtml

"More precisely, due to the large supply of Sandy Bridge central processors, the Santa Clara, California-based company is putting off the release of dual-core mobile units."

"The supply of Sandy Bridge CPUs is said to be so high that not only are vendors overstocked, but also even Intel's own warehouses still have shipments that, had sales been better, would have been sent out quite a while ago."
This may explain the lowered prices that people are reporting for the existing range. That is, it may not be Apple that is directly dropping the prices in anticipation of the new model (as many of us hope), but rather just the result of Apple and other big OEMs being able to buy up stockpiled SB chips from Intel at big discounts, and then simply passing this price advantage on to the reseller.

Though Apple did state "late summer" for the release of ML.

True, "late summer" should have been august or late july. The thing is there is no reason to have huge gap between the Golden Master and the release, especially now that it's download-only, and I don't see why it would stay in Developer Preview 4 for ~3 months while all other versions lasted 1 month. Of course there could always be more than 4 DPs this time, but I doubt it given the DP3's current stability/polish level.

Perhaps Apple planned that it would take as much time as Lion to finalize at that time, but it went faster than expected? It's still weird that they have been specific about "late-summer", they could just have said "summer". Pretty crazy if Lion doesn't even stay a full year as the newest OS X. At least the update is cheap and easy to do, otherwise it would become a fragmentation mess if this is the new trend.

You are not alone. MBP609 is a quite good notebook that ever produced.

Since I have been waiting impatiently for several months like so many others I will jump in.

Last night I was walking through downtown Chicago and at the mac store the table with the macbooks and MBPs was empty and there were a bunch of men working on cleaning or remodeling or sanding it. I decided that meant new MBPs are coming out today since the old computers that should have been on that table were no where to be seen!

A girl can dream can't she???

Can someone link to where Apple actually said "late summer" for Mountain Lion?

I went back to The Verge's original article and it mentions "this summer" quite a bit and "later this summer" a couple of times, but I don't think that's the same as saying "coming in late summer":

Mac users will be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store™ in late summer 2012.

Dear Mac Rumors --

I am so sick of the "fluff" stories on page 1. Do some digging, and get us some parts for the next gen MbP. I want rumors. . . and I want them now! :)

Don't you want to read about the Apple Stores opening in countries you'll never visit? ;)

The ML retina support is hinting at something, I guess. It may be the new Macbook Pros, but let's not forget Apple has other devices that run Mountain Lion, and also their own line of displays.

Just wondering if anyone knows any good up to date rumour websites for the new MBP's 2012? I tend to just Google 'macbook pro 2012' and see what news is most recent. Thanks

I'd be perfectly happy for Apple to neuter the MBP GPUs so long as they provide a feasible and INEXPENSIVE Thunderbolt external GPU.

That would seem to make a lot of sense a please most people.

But that's not up to Apple. That's up to manufacturers like Mvidia and AMD to create at reasonable prices for the masses.

Have you completely forgot the purpose of a portable computer? If I am buying a laptop, I don't want to carry around peripherals to enhance its lack in performance, especially when the computer costs as much as it does! Your idea certainly doesn't please me.

Think it's definite that the MBP will be released at WWDC with a retina display given the above link re; the higher resolution images in 10.7.4.

Any later doesn't make any sense.

Well, that's another week gone and no announcement - Apple don't release things on a Friday do they?

Just have to resign myself to another month wait until WWDC. Just hope they're available immediately

Yeah, as was stated above, MacRumors really is a top notch website with regards to posting any and all rumors for upcoming Apple products, MBP included. Of course new rumors aren't coming out all that frequently, which indicates we are still a ways off from the refresh. At this point I'd say WWDC in June is the earliest possible.

The Buyer's Guide (above) is a good place to go to, not only to see the average refresh cycle's, but it also consolodates all the rumors about specific hardware products. So you can scroll down to MBP and see the most recent rumors about it. There you will also be able to notice that we haven't had any rumors about the upcoming arrival in a month.

Not really, Apple would just have to buy a GPU chip from NVidia or AMD, put in on a board with a Thunderbolt controller (Which they should be more than capable of doing, see the Thunderbolt Display), put it in an enclosure and help create the appropriate drivers.

NVidia and AMD wouldn't have to do the Thunderbolt integration at all since Thunderbolt is basically just external PCI Express.
