This just popped up on 9to5 Mac:

http://9to5mac.com/2012/05/14/apple-readies-revamped-15-inch-macbook-pro-retina-display-ultra-thin-design-and-super-fast-usb-3-3/

They have a pretty decent track record on their own reporting, they were the first to report that the 2008 MBP would be a machined unibody.

Basically it says that it will be a thinner design but not tapered, retina display, no optical drive, USB3 and two thunderbolt ports, and a dedicated GPU.

I am looking to get the 13inch model again but if they remove the DVD rom I will be tempted to wait for the next MacBook air update as its way thinner. I want the USB 3.0 port still I see no need for thunderbolt but I will take it seeing its there. I also would like a Retina display as Iam hooked to my iPad 3 but I highly doubt this will happen.

do people think the 13in will be getting the thin look?

I personally think there won't be a 13 inch. I easily could be wrong though, they may keep it in place just for the name. But in my opinion it's too close to the Macbook Air.

Still no news on anything regarding the rumoured MBP update; I'm glad I bought my MBP last week, waiting for the newest is silly XD
Ouch dude. Spoke too soon?

Yep, sold! Now hurry up and release it, please! I do still use my optical drive but granted not that much, so it's not a massive disappointment to me and I kind of expected it to happen with all the talk on here. Obviously all of this is still yet to be confirmed, though.

I would love to see them available in June:D , however it seems from the article that they are still on testing.

I can't argue with that.

I doubt Apple would release the 15/17 inch models before the 13" though. So either they'll release them all together, or it'd suggest some kind of merge between the MBA and 13" MBP.

Maybe the number at the end denotes the production number. The 15 inch has long been rumored to start production first. In that case 9,1 would be the 15 inch.

Would the delaying of Intel chips have a significant reasoning behind why the 15"/17" MBP geekbench score is listed as 9.1 (or whatever the abbreviation is).

Given that in the past the 13" hasn't always been .1, I think that is more than likely the case.

NVidia 650M GT it is then.

Thoughts?

I'm having a hard time finding much to go off in judging the card. Apparently Kepler brings significant advantages with battery life and still provides great graphics, but I can't find much specifically about the 650.

Am I the only one hoping that they're not as thin as the MacBook air?
Much like the iPhone 4 compared to an iPod touch. I like the box sharp edge design. Doesn't feel so fragile.

Will the prices change or will they increase/decrease?

It's pretty much impossible that it will be that thin.

And why would we want it to be, if we want ultra thin we have the MacBook Air, the Pro is MacBook Pro is supposed to denote an emphasis on performance.

This obsession with making the Pros as thin as possible is so stupid, shall we try and crush the Mac Pro into the size of a Mac Mini at the expense of it's internals while we're at it?

Opinion on the new MBP 12

Just saw the 9to5mac post on the front page, if it's true and the optical drive is gone, do you guys think dual hard drives is still possible? Like 1 SSD + 1 HHD? Thanks for the input :D

Agreed to an extent. I don't mind them shrinking it so long as they keep performance. But as long as that is possible, then i say shrink it more and more. I have no qualms with a lighter, thinner, and faster computer.

It would make sense. Seeing as there has been rumors of Apple using liquid metal for the next iPhone. Why not just use it for all the products they're releasing this year? A liquid metal line up.

These was a report a couple weeks ago that Apple is still a couple years from really implementing liquid metal on a large scale.

One of my concerns is the fact I've invested in a lot of GRAID's which features USB 2.0, FW400/800, and eSata. They have thunderbolt drives available, but I don't want to ditch the ones I have now. FW800 is plenty fast for what I do, and now that port is gone on the MBP.

I wonder what I could do :/

At the end of the day Apple sacrifice 2 things; heat and GPU.

I am no hardcore gamer, but I'd rather the Pros stayed in their current form factor so that it could feature higher end graphics cards and run cooler. You could argue that gamers are less likely to need functional testicles and so the increased heat isn't as much of an issue but there you go.
