Can anyone tell me if the bezel around the screen serves any purpose other than design,

It would be nice to have an edge to edge display, at a guess cant find my tape measure)
a 13" MBP/Air could probably squeeze in another inch or so... that would be nice...

that said.... Descreet GPU, Liquid metal :) and slimmer lighter profile, without compromising heat dissapation. and incorporate LEAP MOTION into it, put some cameras around the edges... :D i want to design flyers using my fingers.....

The bezel allows you to tilt the screen without touching it and leaving fingerprints. ;)

As well as camera, sensors, and the magnets for the closure. They could make it smaller, but probably couldn't do away with completely. Something like the iPhone and iPad with all glass could work, with just a black background behind it, but that would just be for looks.

Besides the reasons mentioned above, an edge-to-edge display would look weird with the rounded corners design that Apple is currently using. Either there would be black bars at the top and bottom but not the sides, or they would have to make the whole notebook have squarer corners.

One more thing. That 15 inch laptop that costs 3k Australlian dollars is code named MC975X/A. Macbook Pro line is MD3XXX/A. Apple never went back on code numbers for any line. More: Macbook Air code is MC965X/A.
Coincidence?

That is true. Then that would indicate a 15 Air if Apple continues to follow that product code.

Or just another product - Macbook.

But for sure, MC975 is NOT the Macbook Pro. At least at this moment ;).

Edit. ya want to know the specs of Macbook Pros? Check the Samsung 550P7C;). i7 3720QM with GT650M. Not bad at all ;). But rather than GDDR3 memory of GPU I want GDDR5 memory ;).

I doubt that they would just call it "Macbook", since that name has already been used for their low end entry-level notebook with low end hardware specs.

If there's a third line I think it will get a new name.

What do u think it'll cost here. Just round about estimate.

$2400 and $3000 for the high end model. Rough estimate but I may be wrong.(understatement of the year :p)

It will be more expensive is my guess than the current crop. If they do indeed still go with the current lineup in addition to the new crop of laptops the refurbs and new models from last year will be heavily discounted and a good buy.

That is my guess also, a whole new lineup of just 'macbooks'. Not a Air or MBP. But weather the new laptops are called a MBP or Macbooks is up in the Air(pardon the pun). They may call the current form factor the which the current MBP just Macbooks, and the new form factor the MBP.

My guess is just 'macbooks'. Apple is simplifying their lineup naming schemes. The new ipad was just ipad, the next iphone will be just the iphone and the new macooks will be just that 'macbooks' is my guess.

Either way we are getting new and exciting products tomorrow. I for one feel like it is christmas. :)

Regardless of the capabilities of the new MBPs, his old one is going to work just as well as it did during the last months. If one is as emotionally unstable as to start crying when newly released machines surpass 12 month old ones, he or she has a problem, because that happens all the time.

I'm thinking that thinning the Pros will cause them to run hotter. Especially with quad core Ivy processors and GPUs. There will be less room for heat dissipation. Even though the 13" models won't have the high spec processors and GPUs, there literally won't be any breathing room. I suppose Apple could use better heat sinks, but in the end the heat sinks need room to dissipate that heat as well. The last time I opened my Macbook Pro 17" 2011, I noticed that the battery took up a big chunk of the space. I'm finding it hard to believe that they can make the battery thinner AND introduce the retina display. I doubt you can have both. Contrary to what I said in the past, I have a feeling that they will not remove the ODD from the pros. Thus, there will be no extra space. If they were to make the pros thinner, it wouldn't be by more than a mm or 2. I personally don't think Apple will make any changes to the lineup (2 airs & 3 Pros). Historically speaking, Apple made the 2009 Pros significantly slimmer than the 2008 ones, but there is a limit to thinness with all the spec bumps.

I personally don't think they will change the names at all. There is a HUGE difference in marketing strategies between iPhones/iPads, and Macbooks. However, I have a feeling they will move the power button on all Pros to the keyboard like the Airs, which I would HATE. I don't like software controlled hardware buttons. I already don't like the ODD eject button, which is on the keyboard. I see minor design changes for aesthetics and of course USB 3.0. We shall find out tomorrow!!!!! I'm all giddy, not that I'll be buying a new one, but still excited for everyone else.

I'm surprised that with less then 24 hours till wwdc there aren't more leaks. Been a nerd all day and watched apples old key notes. Hoping this wwdc is as amazing as 2009! They released everything then!

I have given this a lot of thought over the last 2 weeks and I follow the theory that Apple will consolidate to just one MacBook line tomorrow.

Not sure if they will keep the 11" but certainly we will have 13" and 15" I don't think the 17" will make the cut.

I am hoping for increased resolution (I think the Retina tag will confuse consumer when it comes to computers) SSDs, lose the optical drive, 8gb ram and the requisite CPU and graphics upgrade. Anything above that will be a bonus.

Oh, and a lovely new design will be the icing on the cake.

I don't own a Macbook Air, so would someone like to tell me about its power button? Does the power button on the Airs work the same way as a dedicated one does on the current Macbook pros? To further elaborate.....if my Macbook Pro freezes, all I have to do is hold down the power button and boom it shuts down. Does it work the same way on the Airs? I'm thinking it doesn't work the same way because it is software controlled. Here is my reasoning. If my Macbook Pro locks up I cannot eject the disc in my ODD because, again, it is part of the keyboard and is software controlled. This lead me to believe that the keyboard power button would work the same way as the ODD eject button. Am I right or wrong?

I have a hard time believing that Apple will cut the 17". I'm aware that Apple isn't making as much profit with the 17" as they are with the 13" and 15". However, getting rid of the 17" all together would cause them to lose this niche of "actual professionals." These people would simply go the PC rout. This means they won't be buying Apple accessories, Apple professional software (which cost a crap load), they won't be compelled to buy an iPhone or an iPad or anything else Apple makes for that matter. For the most part, it's like an all or nothing deal. Apple needs to keep these professional customers in the Apple family. For example, Android syncing on a Mac is terrible. I know because I bought an Android earlier this year. I'm going back to iPhone for this reason, and I doubt I'm the only one. Therefore, I believe that Apple will not get rid of the 17" for marketing reasons. If I were Apple, I would keep the 17" even if I were making minimum profit directly from the 17" due to indirect reasons (Keynote (hehe) - Keep Customers In The Family). And anyway, Apple has been catering to professionals for many many years now; I don't see them ignoring this philosophy all of a sudden.

You could well be right. It's just a hunch on the 17". I just think Tim Cook is big on streamlining the product line and cutting where necessary - but I can see your reasoning that it will alienate some professionals.

I'm very doubtful they will release a new line. Would not a new thin "Macbook" with a new retina display and dgpu be the same as the MacBook Pro if they both got the same upgrades? Assuming Jobs most likely knew about this WWDC and possibly the next one, I just cant see a reason to make a new line especially when he rejoined apple he made the lineup much smaller, distinct, and profitable. I think these "New Macbook" rumors are plain ridiculous. I would be confused as to why there were two very similar laptops lines. That's my 2 cents on that but, we shall see tomorrow!!! :D

If Apple does kill the 17", then I'm glad I bought mine last year! :p

only a niche of the niche of 17" users would go the pc route. a niche apple can manage without if they think it's better overall for the company. they could manage reguardless.

Why not cut the 13" Pro? That would remove the redundancy of 13" Air and 13" Pro. This would force consumers to either get an Air or a 15" Pro. I know the 13" Pros sell like hot cakes, but this profitability would transfer over to the 13" Air and 15" Pro. Just thinking out loud.

Yeah, the 13" Pro seems like a redundant product right now. It's only marginally faster than the Air and has a lower resolution screen. I think a more powerful Ivy-Bridge 13" Air and a thinner 15" Pro could easily replace it.

I think that there's a chance that the 17" Pro will stay around in its current form (maybe with an Ivy Bridge spec bump) to appease all of those who will whine about the lack of Ethernet and DVD drive on the updated 15".

I'm ready to get out my credit card, just sold my 2009 MBP for $700 a fair price I think. I'm only debating about a SSD hard drive, I think it might be worth it buy I need more than 256GB, 500GB would be perfect but I know that will be expensive. Decisions, Decisions.

Do what I did. Remove the ODD and replace it with your HDD, and replace the HDD slot with an SSD. It's really not that hard. This would only void the warranty for the ODD. Either way I didn't buy AppleCare so who cares. The SSD would run your system files (I bought a 120GB SSD), and the HDD would have all your space guzzling media files. Best of both.

I sold my fair condition early '11 15" MBP yesterday for $1100 so I'm damn ready for the update! I'll be relying on Bill Me Later for the rest of the cost and I'll definitely be getting 1 day shipping :p if they don't update the line at all then I'll be f*cked

i bought my MBP for my birthday last june, i truly am hoping that it is just a refresh as i definitely won't be able to buy a new one.:(
if the design comes out much better i will probably cry:apple:

Yes because everyone else should suffer because YOU can't afford to refresh a computer barley 1 year old:rolleyes:
