Never gonna happen. If they strip the CDROm out of the macbook pro 13 inch, then why could anyone buy the 13 inch? Why not just get the Air?

I think what will happen is that the Macbook air 13 inch will be discountinued. The Macbook pro lines will merge with the air line, and the new Macbook pro 13 will be a slightly thicker but much better performing 13 air.

You can expect to buy your 2012 update, use it for a few months, and the world ends. Get a 2011, you will at least get to use it for a while before the end of humanity.

Apple knows this and they havent even planned updating any of their systems past 2012.

Forget the 2012 version, I'm waiting for the 2015 model with the flux capacitor.

every revision the battery life gets better. apples battery technology is impressive really. ive run my 2010 mac pro machine for at the very least 8 hours web surfing. thats with nvidia 320m graphics. others need some form of switching to intel graphics to get that kind of battery life. even then its never what they say it is. its usually 5-6 realistically. if 2012 macbook pro increases battery life yet again then i will be one happy guy.

its to bad apple doesnt share its battery technology because alot of products could really benefit from it.

My battery runs okay on my 15 and I get about 4-6 hours of 'lighter' activity. To my understanding, one of the primary components of the development of Ivy Bridge is to make massive gains in power efficiency while making the quad core CPU the standard, much like Core 2 Duo has for dual core processing.

How can you start saying ,' yeah i heard its gonna be a complete redesign' when basically everything we speculated about has been false ?!(for the just updated line up)

The rumors were more about everyone's fantasy than actual rumors that would confirm themselves in time.

Here is the list

-No more odd
-Ssd
-Discrete graphics on 13 inch model
-Liquid metal
-Redesign
-MBA influence
-and the list goes on and on...

yeah, I really think we'll be looking at a marriage of the Air and current MBP. - I don't think we'll lose any ports. However, I wouldn't be surprised if they ditched the optical and HDD for an built-in SSD like the Air.
I'm not sold on the liquid metal stuff, I think that's a bit out there. - But a tapered design like the Air, I could definitely see.

Tapered doesn't look as nice

Is it just me or is anyone else not enthusiastic about a tapered design for a future MacBook Pro? While I respect how small and light the MacBook Air is, I always thought the tapered look was a bit of a necessary evil. It has to have the thickness in the back, because of components. I think the iPad 2 looks better because it maintains the same thickness everywhere. The curved sides of the iPhone 3/3GS and iPad 1 were there to hide the thickness in the middle. It never sat well with me. I'd actually prefer to have things a bit thicker (iPhone 4, current MBP) and maintain clean edges. Again...maybe it's just me.

I'd rather have tapered personally :)

I'm completely happy with the current design. But I stand ready to be amazed with something new from the design folks at Apple.

Steve tell you that?

No, Steve said he is not too worried about it because the world will end and therefore it is not a big issue.

Steve also said that one nice thing about the world ending is not having to hear everyone and their pet rock talk about updates as soon as a new model is released.

No optical drive, new exterior design, Ivy Bridge, USB 3.0

Apple hasn't upgraded the 8X superdrive in the MacBook Pro for years, and I believe they will eventually remove it. They already eliminated the CD in iTunes icon. Maybe the 2012 MacBook Pro will be their next step to get rid of the optical drive completely. However, external superdrive may be sold seperately.

I pray that the odd gets removed it's so pathetic. Everyone who cries for one is a big baby. Just get a super slim external it looks cool too. What? Need a drive all the time? Heck if you do you need a desktop. Removing odd will help make it slimmer. Ivy bridge is going to be amazing and that's what apple is waiting for IMO. Steve is going to pair the all new mbp body with the new CPUs and be able to claim 9-10 hrs battery life or more which will be huge. Or maybe he's waiting for the gpu shrinkage too? Then maybe 10-12 hr claims?

When steve jumps into a lake he doesn't get wet. The lake gets Steve Jobbs.

Oh and with the iPhone 4 styling. I hate tapered stuff. Aesthetics are huge for me and tapered = ugly. I don't want my 2012 mbp to look like a giant iPhone 3gs cut in half.

Can't wait. Thinner design please. Also, I'm hoping for the mid 15" MBP to have AMD Radeon HD6850 - the 6750 is a bit weak right now and I really foresee it becoming my movable desktop replacement since I'm going to be travelling quite a lot for the next few years.
