I prefer the "T". On my MBA, cord forward it blocks the USB port. Cord to the rear sticks out and usually has to make a 180 degree bend for my use. I am very happy the "T" has returned.

Same here, I prefer the "T", more versatile and you can bend it to left or right.

I know this may not be the best place to put this info but as this is a very popular thread, I wanted to let people know the rMPR in the base configuration is in stock on bestbuy.com with 5% off also. Its only 5% but it is 110$ off. Just spreading the word. All macs for that matter have the discount. But the base rMPR is actually in stock and ready to ship.

Best Buy stores are a great place to get a new Macbook Pro. I got mine four days after the WWDC release at a local Best Buy store. This is a great laptop. Apple did a excellent job on the new design and speed of the system. So if you don't want to wait 2 to 3 weeks check your local Best Buy for the new retina Macbook Pro.

So am I correct in understanding that only the 15" has the option for retina display? I don't get why they took out the optical drive out of the 15" but not the 13". And the 13" doesn't even have a resolution bump.

MacBook Pro 15" and MacBook Pro 15" Retina are two different laptops. They never released a 13" version of MacBook Pro Retina.

That's only an option if they beat the education discount and free gift card by 10% or more, like their pricematch policy says they are supposed to. If not, no thanks.

I really hope that the rumors about a 13" Retina MBP is true!
I cross my fingers, and hope what the analysts are saying is right! :)

Why? Just curious. You seem very passionate about the 13".

Because the 13" MBP fits me perfectly in all ways.

Size, great for school and studying.
Performance allows me to do all the things I want/have to do on a daily basis.
And of course the design, can't go wrong with that.

And I'm just kind of an Apple fanatic. When a new MBP comes out, with new cool features, I'll do everything I can to get my hands on it, and play with it. (What she said).

The 13" MBP is the laptop, which I find best for me and my usage, without doubt. :)

Sorry for bad english, I'm danish.

I've got the 11" Air right now and I'll be getting the retina in a few months. I know it's going to blow my mind going from 11" to 15". Can't wait. :)

That is my exact reasoning also. 15 is too big for me, too expensive. 13 is perfect, hopefully the October rumors are correct!

I wonder if Apple will also release a 15" RMBP with a resolutions of 3360x2100 so you could have the "Best for Retina" Resolution set to be effectively 1680x1050. I know that you can scale it on the current RMBP to this resolution but it isn't the same as having it at native resolution.

"I visited my local Retail Store for a little play on the new Retina Pro last night... I'm afraid to say it was a bit of a disappointment I think - and I was anticipating it being a bit mind blowing!!"

Huh! I guess I'm just too easy. Mine impresses the hell out of me.

Same here, it's ridiculously thin, light and cool. I love the redesign and the Retina screen. I guess some people might have been expecting a more dramatic redesign, but IMO it's plenty different and makes the old models look very dated.

So I heard Apple recently released the new Retina MacBook Pro, should I buy it now or wait until the next update? I heard that the new ones will be even better than the current one.

Just kidding

No disk drive on the new pro is a deal breaker for me. What they should have done is give the Air the retina display. They could have made two other versions that were cheaper that didn't have the retina and one more expensive version of the Air with the retina. Just my thoughts.

Hate it.

My next laptop will be an asus.

Typed on a Unibody MBP with common market drives, upgradeable RAM and a battery that isn't epoxied to the topcase in pieces.

This is the first MacBook Pro that lives up to one particular standard of portability I've grown to require from my MacBook Airs: the ability to pick it up with two fingers. I owned three different 17" Apple laptops (a PowerBook and two MBPs) before switching to Airs; the 15" rMBP definitely feels more related to the Airs than my old MBPs.

That's funny because Asus Zenbooks aren't upgradeable either.

If you're talking about a thick Asus with mechanical hard drive wouldn't it be more fair to compare it to a cMBP, which is upgradeable?

I have no interest in Zenbook. I'm puzzled with this market obsession with prosumer netbooks. I need PERFORMANCE not the ability to lose my laptop in a pile of paperwork.

As cMBP is simply another of Apple's stopgap neolegacy laptop models which will simply cease to exist in a few months NO it's not more fair to compare it to a "thick" Asus. rMBP is being sold as the top of the line. As such it should be compared to the top of other lines. The fact that those other machines include parts Apple has eschewed from a sort of design anorexia has little bearing.

If I understand correctly, you judge a computer by how long it will stay on the market and the price segment it occupies within its manufacturer's lineup, rather than by its specs and features?

Who cares if they discontinue the cMBP tomorrow or in two years, and who cares if Apple decided to release an even more expensive Retina 17" MBP with 2TB SSD and dual discrete graphics cards priced at 5000$.

It changes nothing to the fact that the 15" cMBP is still an excellent computer to buy right now and is closer in terms of specs and features to non-ultrabook Asus laptops than the rMBP is.

If the Asus laptops had features than only the rMBP had but not the cMBP then I could understand, but they don't offer HiDPI displays, don't offer the thin form factor and don't offer the dual Thunderbolt ports.

Would you compare a "top of the line" Honda to a "top of the line" Mercedes Benz just because they are both at the top of their line?

Yes. An NSX can spank a Mercedes SLR on any road with corners with comparable driving talent.

An NSX isn't on the market anymore, therefore you shouldn't like it by your logic. And obviously I was talking about the computer as a whole, not performance alone, otherwise we wouldn't be even talking about the rMBP in the first place since it's not any more powerful than the 15" cMBP. The idea of comparing two products solely based on their position within their manufacturer's lineup without considering the price, specs and features still sucks IMO. Maybe you could "spank" a Mercedes with a Honda but that doesn't change the fact they are different cars targeted at a different market and most people wouldn't be considering both cars at the same time like they would between say a BMW and a Benz.

Anyway, we got out of the topic. Why were you comparing the rMBP (and not the 15" cMBP) to (non-Zenbook) Asus laptops again?
