Yeah, I also thought that ~17W is ULV, 35W is a lot of power for a small laptop.

The Ivy CPUs are supposed to have a programmable TDP. They might be able to stick a 45W in the 13'' MBP and throttle it so that things don't blow up. But that would probably be a waste of money, and difficult from a marketing point of view...

but for the same money you (or even less) you can get a 27".

You see i'm in a similar dilemma. Do I go for a 15" or go for a 13" + ipad?

you see where i'm going with this? I mean in your case I don't know what I would do. 15" + ipad? or maybe even 21" + mba 11.62? they all come round to the same money.

I find it hard to justify the price all on 1 product.

Does this forum have no private message option? o_O
I've searched but could not find it, so i will reply here.

I will be flying to California San Diego area in fall/winter later this year.
I will stay for 6 months learning at an art atelier, so that's why i'm getting a laptop. Buying a monitor is kind of pointless in thats cenario because of the bagage limitations etc etc. Plus mac products are way cheaper in US than in europe so i'm going to pick one either from macmall or apple refurbished.

Otherwise i'd go straight for the high end 27'' imac.

here is what i think:

new design
Nvidia Keplar Gtx 660m (1GB vram, maybe 2GB?):D
intel core i7 3xxxQM quad core 2.4-2.7Ghz:D
no disc-drice:confused:
1TB 7200RPM HDD:rolleyes:
128GB SSD(or smaller, like 20GB since lion uses about 6~)
same screen(or rumors point at "retina" for macbookpros?):(
1080p camera:D
battery(IDC, i always have my stuff plugged in anyways):D

my wishes:
Siri(how cool would that be!)
maybe other stuff, idk

the 660m is definitely reasonable, since its cooler because of keplar, and its just the mid-tier card apple always uses, but if they use it, the MBP would be a beast gaming laptop(from many other point-of-views of laptops)

any other ideas? seem reasonable?

Nice pipe dream.

2012 MacBook Pro Release Date?

Hey Guys.

I've got a tough choice to make and hopefully someone will be able to help.

The classes I am taking next year will require me to have a powerful machine, so of course I'm going for the 15" Pro. I need to buy it in the next 3-5 months, preferably sooner than later. I don't want to buy the current MBP because I've been reading about all those "new re-designed 2012 MBP" rumors. I don't want to buy now and then regret later, but if it's coming out and later than september then I'm going to have to buy now.

So what do you guys think? When will Apple update the MacBook Pro?

Thanks in advance :)

This has been addressed many times. Rather than creating a thread, you would be better served by keeping an eye on the front page and the links within the buyer's guide that reference recent events pertinent to the line.

Please read more and post less

Why aren't threads like this deleted on sight?

There's also a 47 page thread about this... Jussayin.
Yes I've read the 47 page thread. Not much help on WHEN, just what.
They already did.
Yeah, 167 days ago. You're not a help at all.

I check macrumors.com front page every day, as well as the buyers guide.
Have you read any other threads?
Yes. Have you?

I've seen a bajillion posts on what the new MBP specs will be, but I have yet to see a single post that shows opinions on WHEN it will be released. I'm sorry if I offended anyone by my ignorance and sorry for posting.

I didn't ask for anyone to slam me with negative worthless comments and in all honest what good did it do you? Wasted 45 seconds of your time? Geez just move on with your life.

All I was asking for was an opinion.

Those are MacRumors posts which aren't discussion threads. They're posts and rumors. I want opinions and speculation. The only link I hadn't read yet was https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1349486/ but thats worthless. Read it.

Everything is worthless, as it is all speculation due to release dates of Ivy Bridge CPUs and Apple's own timeframe of implementing them. There is no consensus really, just speculation and hopes and expectations. And seriously, if you can wait for three to five months, then there will be a 2012 MBP.

I have readen some anough threads about the new Macbook pro and according to my understanding it wil come on April 27,28 or 29 I think....

p.s.
I really want a 17 inch antiglare macbook pro for my self too, but i really want to get as powerful as possible which will serve me well for a couple of years so i decided to wait even though it is not easy to wait

Finally, a real answer to my question! Thank you! :)

I sure hope it does! That'd be great.

i desperately need a new laptop because my current computer is about 5 years old and it is very week and it is very tampting to buy 2011 model right now and i am pretty shure it is still very powrful, but i have cash only for one parchase so i just decided to wait for a new macbook pro, because i know i will regred to much if i will buy a current macbook pro in a week, two or month or two a new macbook pro will be relised...

I heard that changing from HD to SSD could give one the experience of a new machine. I would wait until the end of next month and if nothing comes out, get a laptop with the fastest CPU but with limited RAM and HD. Then, upgrade the machine to get new experience few years later.

If you need a new machine, buy one.

Once the MBP is updated, there will be rumors about the new MBA update, and how they will be just as awesome but much lighter, etc.

The 2011 is a decent machine with plenty of expansion. There is nothing in the pipeline performance wise that will make the 2011 look "bad" rather than just slightly different.

Or you can wait, and wait, and put up with whatever piece of junk you are currently using for an unknown duration.

i'd say, unless your machine stops working or is unacceptably working
- wait -

there is no need to rush and spend 1-2000 € / $ while in 1/2 months machines will be upgraded and your machine will be cheaper and a little obsolete already

i also need-want a new machine (looking at mbp or imac) but my notebook can still run, however i was at an apple store the other day (ipad3) and i was salivating too much with all these imacs, cinemadisp, mba, mbp = gorgeous, if i didnt know an upgrade is coming in 1-2 months, i'd have already spent the cash

Mother father if don't need the stupid thing until September then you've got plenty of time to wait and see. Most likely it will be out before then.

Just some info I got from about MacBook Pro (only 15 inch) :
2010 model : CPU TDP 35 Watts, GPU TDP ~30 Watts, other about 10 Watts
2011 model : CPU TDP 45 Watts, GPU TDP ~40 Watts, other about 10 Watts

Last year, I ordered the high end MacBook Pro 15''. It was getting very hot but when doing 3D Rendering (using 8 threads and 100 GPU), it was drawing battery even with magsafe plug. Fans stuck to 6200 rpm. Too noisy for me. I use wattmeter and it shows about 95 Watts !!! So I send it back and buy a MacBook Pro 15'' 2010. It's slower but it can charge battery while working. And never gets so hot.

So according to me, MacBook Pro 15" chassis can handle about 70 to 75 Watts without having crazy mad fans. I just hope Apple will go back with about 75 Watts TDP for the new MacBook Pro.

LV Quad Core and GeForce GT 640m (or an other Kepler less powerfull) would be great. But Apple seems to prefers overpowered laptops making much noise. =/
