On the german Amazon Store MBPs are running low, at least the "bigger" models (only 4 17" available, 5 15" with 2.4 GHz available). I hope that it's a sign for new modles soon, i'm sick of waiting :c

Liquinn can you please stop asking if there shouldnt be more rumours, its becoming quite annoying that every tenth post in this thread is that same question over and over again.

It's actually funny how he has 2012 MBP and MBA in his signature. :D

Are you serious?

I think he's right. The new ASUS 13.3" Zenbook (Air-competitor) offers 1680x1050 resolution. Compare that to the 13" Pro which offers 1280x800. Heck, the first MacBook released in 2006 offered the same resolution as today. That's a 6 year old computer! Of course, there are more things to consider than resolution, but that does not change the fact that Apple has to improve their screen-resolution in the 13" MBP.

Then again, I would never purchase a Windows computer like the Asus, but none the less...

In fact, the resolution of the 13" Zenbook is 1600x900, not 1680x1050. Still, it's higher than the 1440x900 resolution found in the standard 15" MacBook Pro.

Yes, even if they dont go with retina this time around, not "up'ing" the resolution at all would be somewhat depressing.

It's already depressing that I have a sub-US$ 1,000 1920x1080 15" laptop and I can't have a US$ 1,799 15" MacBook Pro with the same resolution...

not to mention that the 13" macbook air has a higher resolution screen than the macbook PRO... but i believe a screen resolution bump is almost certainly in the cards. now i wonder why no computer companies have attempted carbon fiber laptop cases? i doubt that a carbon fiber unibody enclosure would be impossible to construct with modern carbon fiber forming techniques. i haven't heard any talk of such a thing happening, but i just wonder why it hasen't been tried what with it's amazing strength-to-weight properties, and mould-ability... just dreaming though, that's certainly not going to happen any time soon!

I kind of doubt Apple will announce the MBPs with the Ivy Bridge processors before Intel gets to announce them (supposedly set on the 29th). So I would guess that Apple is going to FINALLY announce these on May 1st (Tuesday).

EDIT: OK, I see that the processors may actually be released tomorrow. Nevermind then! Hopefully we see something this week!

One thing I just don't get... Maybe someone can clear this up for me. Is it really possible that Apple is ONLY going to release a 15" redesigned MBP?!

So then we'd have 11" and 13" MBA, 13" MBP with ODD, 15" thin MBP without ODD, and 17" MBP with ODD?

That just seems super fragmented to me. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Apple has ever done a PARTIAL redesign to a product line. It just seems to open the floodgates for a lot of consumer questions...

What if I want a 15" with a 750GB HD? Or a 'pro' level 13" with no ODD?

It seems VERY unlike Apple to offer consumers something (15" thin MBP) and tell them 'just wait around for a bit' for 13" and 17" versions of it.

They have done a partial update in the form of adding extra models (i.e the 13" Pro) and a slow transition from non unibody to unibody. However in essence the unibody macs were hardly a /major/ redesign in terms of aesthetics; certainly not from the pictures i've seen.

I think the person mentioned April 29th could be on to something. Yes Intel chips look to be out tomorrow. But is that because they have announced the chips 1 week earlier than expected? If Apple were originally told April 29th, then they may have penned in an May 1st release date. I can't see Apple then ripping this up and releasing earlier than what they had scheduled just because Intel are going to announce/release it earlier than they had planned.

June/July

I think it almost impossible that Apple will be announcing a major new design in MBP and/or MBA next week. And why ? Because (as you all know) Apple always likes to introduce major product redesigns in specific events.

I honestly cannot believe that they would simply tend to introduce such a huge change in their MBP and/or MBA without a huge Marketing event.

I am sure they will want to have an oportunity to enfasize the differentiation between their products and other products from other companies.

Could there be an introduction of "minor" updates without design updates ? Probabily yes...........

What I also think is that waiting until June/July is giving away Market share to competition who will for sure introduce new specs in their product line.

True, I forgot about the unibody release. At that point, the 13" MBP didn't exist - it was just the plastic MacBook (that I'm currently using :D). And it arguably didn't affect user functionality at all... I'm partially speaking for myself, as I was dead set on getting whatever 13" MBP is updated (I need the higher processor and bigger HD from the MBA). But now I'm getting excited for the ODD-less MBP, as long as I can keep a bigger HD. Apple may make me choose between the newer 15" redesign that I want or the 13" MBP that I really need... Never had to do that before with Apple.

I'd love a 13" redesign akin to the air but with upgradability, but I just can't see it due to it sharing too much with the Air. It would be. I think I've finally settled that the same design MBP with retina display (or a higher resolution) with ivy bridge would satisfy me. I could then just buy my own ram and SSD and just fit it straight away.

Probably we'll see new iMacs first. The first wave of processors are for desktops (and also quad-core laptops, which won't fit in the 13" MBP).

According to Intel the new quad-core processors are low enough wattage to fit in a 13" laptop.

I'd argue, if there is going to be a quad core 13" MBP, it will be this one; http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_i7/Intel-Core i7-3612QM Mobile processor.html
