I've just seen who it's by – Wollf Ollins.

What I always love about agency prattle, are the ridiculous verbal lengths they go to justify their design decisions...

'Capturing the energy, vison etc. this represents the striving for blah blah blah...'

I've seen enough of this rubbish to justify huge fees before... so much pretentious spin put on the simplest of jobs. Some clients love it.

That is exactly what I hate about the design industry. Its full of people that spout this crap to justify huge fees on crap work.

I'm no angel myself I've had to think quick in the past when a client has questioned me on some concepts. I can ******** as good as the rest but I dont like doing it and avoid having to do so by creating good work. If its good work and the message is obvious then you should never be asked 'what does it mean?'.

That is bloody awful.

I noticed the 20 12 on second glance.

On first glance I thought the 12 part was a pair of legs at a funny angle, with the first part of the 2 being a, ummm, rather boxy "third leg" ;)

What insulting, pretentious cr*p. It's terrible. The worse thing is that some talentless tosser at some design company was probably paid millions to spend five minutes coming up with it. Apparently it's a 'multimedia brand' - i.e. self-serving bollox. Wht does it have to be a 'brand'? It's about sport. It's not some product to be sold to people. It's simply embarrassing. It reflects nothing about London or the games. It's just poxy.

To me it looks like someone having their bum pinched.

This is one design that is never going to grow on me…
It makes Adobe's CS3 icons look like wrks of art.

Surely they will have to change it!

How can anyone — designer or commitee — think they have got it right?

That logo is just plain nasty…

On second thoughts, maybe it's supposed to be ironic. That appears to be the buzzword amongst the Nathan Barleys at the moment.

The first thing i thought was 'Smash Hits' circa 1986.

I cant help but notice the 0 and the 2 engageing in oral sex.

Well on the 12 o'clock news, it said that it cost £400,000 to make it because it is always moving.
I personally think that it is a load of crap

Aside from the logo being utter ***** I just don't understand the choice of colours.

BBC News Article said:
The jagged emblem, based on the date 2012, comes in a series of shades of pink, blue, green and orange and will evolve in the run-up to the Games.

What does the bright pink have to do with the Olympics or London? Have they re-coloured the Olympic rings or something? I thought the point behind the colours of the rings were something to do with country flags or whatever... and then someone goes ahead and designs some naff logo in pink and orange?!!

yuck. if this is the logo, everyone will burn their medals and t-shirts from the games about 5 seconds after it's over.

redo this ugly logo. i've seen better at a kindergarden table.

As I understand it, the Olympic rings represent the inhabited continents of the world – the colours are purely decorative and aren’t supposed to symbolise any continent or country in particular.

But where they’ve got pink from is anyone’s guess.

to be fair, if it wasn't the way it was, this thread wouldn't have cracked me up nearly so much!

to be fair... I'd rather have a good logo and a dead thread.

How embarrassing.

With the astronomical budget they've put on the London Olympics it's irritating that they'd dare use that ugly POS. Bastids!
