In the logo's favour, it does look slightly more distinguished and recognisable when its very small (about 70 by 70 pixels big). You can just about make out the 2012 then. I think thats probably the most kindest comment about the logo on the web.

But then you cant see the Olympic rings, or the fact its related to London. And when the logo is bigger, the eye is drawn to the Olymic rings, then you dont notice the 2012. So on balance it is a terrible design

That video didnt half make me think of that old atari video game, Tempest. Another tepidly warm comment in favour of the logo,

In an age where everything is intensely focus group-ed before public release, it'd be nice to know how this actually cleared the first hurdle.

I think this debacle goes to prove that the London 2012 Olympic Committee must be frighteningly spineless. Not onlyhave they been bullied by someone (the design compnay?) into accepting this logo, which is quite clearly tripe, but also they've been bullied over the mess that the building and costing process has become.

We should just stick to the Commonwealth Games in the future

Those of us who live in London are getting stung more than the others: our Council Tax has gone up with a special Olympics addition. And we don't get free (or even discount) tickets either

We as Londoners pay £14bn a year between us in taxes that goes directly to the rest of the UK. I wouldn't mind so much but once again this morning I reported another pothole that's appeared on my way into work. London's roads and public transport falls apart and the Government insists of sending all our money up to Newcastle or Scotland

Anyway, I'm not going to go on a rant about anything other than stupid £400k magenta play shapes today....

i didn't even got the 20-12 part until somebody posted it

mark this down as another reason why paris should have been the host in the first place

pink + yellow + papercuts/grafitti doesn't turn into a good looking logo no matter what

edit: and even better: they want to attract young people with it ... i consider that an insult

Everything Is Average Nowadays

I design logos for a living and I wouldn't have the front to present it to a client. Likewise the Conservative Party logo. Maybe I'm just not 'with it'.

I’ve had three emails in the past half hour from fellow disgruntled designers who are quite taken aback by how bloody awful this is.

The great thing is, the papers tomorrow are going to be full of comments about what useless, money-grabbing rip-off merchants us designers are. This sort of thing really doesn’t help us, you know.

I like it! :p

Looks like Mr. Gumby Road Pizza!

Honestly, ours for the bid is cooler, but I understand you "can't use the torch in your logo" so ours has to change... hopefully they won't look to the London one for inspiration...

Kinda strange though - Chicago Fire???

it does look better (not that hard to do though), but the accompanying BS is from the same stock.
and why can't you use the torch? Atlanta and Albertville did.

Our bid logo was better than the official end result. The colours are correct and the "ribbons" form the rough shape of the Thames as it flows through London connecting the Logo to the City.

Why were they so desperate for it anyway?
I heard it was all about tourism going up but after the amount they've spent on it, the gains are questionable.

It's more about prestige and showboating than any crude economic calculation. There's also the regenerative aspect, given that most of the Olympics is taking place within one of the most deprived boroughs in the UK. The Commonwealth Games was quite a success in regenerating what was, in all honesty, a pretty awful part of east Manchester. I hear about how it's going a lot because my mums family all come from or live in that area. Although it takes decades to properly assess the success of such schemes, all the signs indicate its working.

Similar amounts of criticial praise  were heaped upon that design too when it was first revealed to the public.

The best concept I saw for the 2012 games logo was by Daniel Eatock.

Okay, maybe its me being too picky, or maybe its my monitor.

But are the bottom 2 rings chopped off on their baseline? I see this more and more, you import a circular shape/text from Illustrator and Photoshop chops off the rounded edge pixels, leaving a flat edge.

Oh, and I think the logo sucks too! DBC is killing creativity everywhere.
