i love it how people like or hate their displays based on RANDOM OTHER PEOPLE'S THOUGHTS over the internet.

look at your display. you like it? if not, calibrate it. still dont like it? return it.
Not everyone live in a country where there is return policy. I lived in Singapore and Apple does not have a 'remorse return' policy (their words, not mine). So I am stuck even if I don't like the screen.

Yup, kinda pathetic isn't it... Nowadays instead of going to the zoo I come to Macrumours and watch the OCD reign, lollol;)

I just got my new Macbook Air a few days ago and just peaked to see which screen I ended up getting because my screen was perfect right out of the box.

terminal states this as my display:
LP116WH4-TJA3

So looks like I got a LG display (I think) and it is absolutely amazing, I don't feel like I need to change a thing. Color is nice and bright, no extreme blue-hue which I do not like in displays in general, and the blacks are nice and black but the color is not over saturated.

I did go to best buy today to look at new printers and took a peak at some of the macbook airs and I did notice that there were 2 display models where the displays looked very faded, sure they just needed to be calibrated properly.

But I love my Air and the LG screen.

LG screen. I don't see why people are complaining, the screen looked beautiful before and after calibrating it. "http://osxdaily.com/2011/10/30/how-to-check-for-an-lg-display-in-a-macbook-air-and-make-it-look-better/"

The colour profile made the screen more deeper contrast and also a bit darker.

Overall both are great screens but I don't have side by side samsung vs lg screen to compare intensively.

I have the LG screen, and honestly, it looks pretty good. I live in China so I can't download the calibrated file, but I'm happy with my screen as it is.

I took my new 11" to the Apple store and compared screens side by side. I have a LG screen and the colors, especially red, looked a little more vibrant on my screen than the demo's Samsung. I used Apple's own website for the comparison.

I tried hard to see other differences but I couldn't. Of course, I'm sure the store's demo unit has been on 24/7 for at least 1 month so not sure if that could make a difference.

So I bought a new 11" and here is the result:

LTH116AT01A04

I don't know if Samsung or LG or other, but when I Google, multiple results suggest that it is a Samsung but I only see results from 2011 models. Are they still using the exact same screen that they did 2 years ago?

That's a Samsung

Just received my BTO 13 i7/256/8 and it has both a Samsung SSD/screen. Yes, the differences aren't huge, but I've had both LG/Samsung in my past 2010/2011 MBA and I prefer the Samsung every time. The LG looked good to me until I put them side by side.

I got a new MBA 13 (2013) with an LG screen and ended up returning it. The screen seemed much inferior to my 2012 MBA 11 (which I had intended to sell), which has a Samsung screen. Now I'm going to wait and may get a new Retina 13 MBP when they come out. I think my problem with the 13" MBA was twofold: the larger pixels and the LG screen. I have an LG screen on my MBP 15 retina, and it's perfect.

I ended up returning 2 other MBAs before getting one with a Samsung screen.
Here is the funny thing though:

I bought all of them new from Amazon, however:

The last one with the Samsung screen didn`t have the usual protective foil on the white box, but the brown Apple transport box (the one that comes with the paper "edges" to protect the white box) was factory sealed.
The date code on the machine is 06/06 , the LG ones were later codes.

Very strange, but I`m happy with the Samsung screen.

Is there anyway of differentiating the two screens by serial number? I ask because I wonder if I return my air, which currently has a LG screen, If I can tell which-is-which by serial number.

Got a Samsung screen on my first try! I thought it was far too warm, but other than that, the quality of the screen is superb for a TN. I readjusted the calibration to get better contrast and more accurate grays.

Could you post your profile please?

IMHO it's worth the try.

Yesterday was my last day to return so I just kept it. Also, this machine hasn't given me any issues so why fix whats not broken.

Furthermore, I personally haven't had a chance to compare both manufacturers side-by-side but I've come to terms with MBA's just having inferior display, whether its Samsung or LG.

The MR color profile helps a lot so I'm content until the new Haswell rMBP's are announced.

Samsung. Never had an LG screen so can't say whether there is a noticeable difference. The colors and contrast for a TN panel are quite impressive though.
