As much as I don't like him, that's ridiculous. It seems they're picking on low hanging fruit. It's easy because everybody hates him.

Why so harsh for him? And not for Braun who lied to EVERYONE after he got caught. Or for McGwire? Manny? Ortiz? Pettitte?

Bartolo Colon is having a cy young season. What about him?

Braun's suspension was going to be 150 game ban( the 50 game ban he should have gotten in 2011 for first offense and 100 game ban for second offense). Under this logic, ARod already has one strike for his admitted 2001-2003 usage. If he used again and then lied to MLB about it, strike two and three= lifetime ban.

Why I give a pass to Pettitte is due to admitting it and being honest about why he used. If that was proved to be a lie, I wouldn't defend him anymore. I defended ARod once he admitted to it in 2007. Now that he was stupid enough again to use PED's, he can burn.

EDIT: Looks like ARod will fight. That means no deal like Braun did. ARod can definitely burn now that he is going to fight it.... Maybe if he admits to it and make a deal, it wouldn't be a lifetime ban. Especially since he possibly destroyed evidence....

Braun got caught and lied about it. And apparently got caught again Melky Cabrera got caught and made a fake website. Has ARod even failed a test? Manny has 2 fails and is in the minors.

Spin it how you want, but it makes no sense. Being inconsistent isn't going to do anything to solve the problem. It just makes them continue to look like they have no idea what they're doing.

He failed a test that was included in the Mitchell report hence why ARod admitted to PED usage in 2007... He didn't decide to come clean on a whim....

He hasn't failed a test under the modern system, but if MLB is going to take into account past PED usage into the suspension, it makes sense to count the '01-'03 usage as strike one.

If Manny gets caught again, he will be banned for life too. You only have 3 strikes....

Wasn't Manny named in the Mitchell report?

Sorry, but if that report isn't being used as strike 1 - meaning a suspension- for anyone else, it's ridiculous it's being used for ARod. They're making this stuff up as they go along.

And why not count Braun's lies as a strike?

It's been stated that MLB's evidence is stronger for ARod than Braun. Maybe they didn't have enough on Braun lying or was part of the deal they struck?

The union will fight it, you need to fail a drug test according to the collective bargaining. I don't see how they can ban A-Rod on hearsay. As much as I hate the guy we kind of need him this year.

MLB has swept this under the rug for decades and screwed up with Braun so they want to make a huge example out of A-Rod. Not to say that he is innocent but MLB needs to be the same for everyone. They have to stop picking and choosing, it makes them look like idiots.

They should ban Selig from the game as well as this is all on his head.

Now lets say they give A-Rod a lifetime ban do they strip all of his records?

Lets also not forget that the Mitchell report and the 100 something names were supposed to be kept private and never released. So MLB has no standing on penalties, they can only go by what was collectively bargained.

But, when ARod admitted it I think that threw the whole private thing out the window.

This isn't being run by the drug violation policy, but under the commissioners discretionary powers "under just cause" or whatever it is called. If they have enough evidence, a lifetime ban is possible.

Selig still has to work with the union, he can't throw out lifetime bans when ever he wants. Pete Rose broke the biggest rule of gambling on the sport. You have to fail a drug test to be suspended.

True... The big question is how involved was the union with the Braun situation? If the union stated plea, it shows how strong MLB's evidence is. And it has been reported that ARod would fight any suspension so there probably won't be a deal even if the union says to make one probably thinking the evidence is too damning to get ARod out of it.

How the union dealt with the Braun suspension will be telling in how they deal with the ARod situation.

Braun wanted to save face and hope people forget about it as his career moves on. A-Rod is near the end and won't go out without a fight. A-Rod has to protect his legacy now as Braun has years to do damage control.

To me, Braun is worse. I remember very clearly that press conference he gave during spring training (after he got off on that technicality) about how he was wronged and so very innocent. He's a fraud and a liar. I imagine the guys in the clubhouse will be treating him very differently when he comes back. And he'll deserve it.

What are your thoughts about his 2011 MVP? Strip it or just let him keep it?

If there is precedent in baseball, strip it. If not, don't unless you do it for all the confirmed roid users( Sosa, McGwire, etc).

Steroids weren't illegal in baseball when Sosa and McGwire did them, so there really is no precedent. Right now they are in the process of setting precedents with regards to steroids.

I say strip him of his MVP. The problem is they are setting the precedent now, but they are all over the place with testing. MLB didn't go strong enough the first time and now they are stuck with it.

Do you think the Yankees secretly hope A-Rod is suspended immediately? I don't think they really ever want to see him in pinstripes again.

I think the Yankees want out of the contract but they would be lying if they say they don't want him back this year. He is a bat they don't have and he brings people to the stadium and TV.

It would be extremely, extremely naive for anyone to say Selig didn't have a hand in the steroid era.

Probably. It's a joke that they had it banned in 1991, but never implemented a way to test players if they are using until public pressure started to mount....

Also.....ARod is finding lawyers that won't tell him he is screwed....

“Alex has a lot of people representing him, always has,” said one person who is familiar with Rodriguez’s history. “He’s all over the place. He has been all over the place for years.”

Why?

The answer is pretty simple.

“When people don’t tell him what he wants to hear, he goes out and finds someone who will,” said another person who knows Rodriguez well.

It just gets better in the A-Rod circus.
http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/sto...think-new-york-yankees-mlb-conspiring-slugger
In a media blitz, Rodriguez's representatives, including a doctor who disputed the Yankees' interpretation of an MRI showing Rodriguez had a quad strain, began supplying details to support A-Rod's belief that the Yankees and MLB were conspiring to keep the $275 million third baseman off the baseball field.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman did not immediately return a call seeking comment, but a source with knowledge of the original conversation between the team and Rodriguez said it was Rodriguez who brought the news of the quad injury to the Yankees.

"He told them he couldn't play third base on Saturday, and he told them he couldn't play at all on Sunday," the source said.

Right, because the Yankees have no incentive whatsoever to keep him out this season.
The Yankees can keep him out all they want but they still have to pay him. Most likely they are waiting for the league to suspend him without pay.

We now have a possible CBA violation by ARod.....

As the Alex Rodriguez saga continues to get stranger, there may now be a Collective Bargaining Agreement violation in the mix. According to a source, Rodriguez never informed the Yankees that he was getting a second opinion on his quadriceps.

According to the CBA: Prior to undergoing a “second evaluation,” a Player shall inform the Club in writing of his decision to seek a second medical opinion, and the name of the physician who will be performing the diagnosis and medical evaluation.

http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2013/07/24/source-rodriguez-did-not-get-permission-for-second-opinion/

While the Yankees play themselves out of the postseason, this is providing all the entertainment. :D

It sounds more like the Yankees are stalling on A-Rod. They don't want to play him. At this point I don't care what A-Rod took, until he is suspended by MLB I want to win games.
