And how much of this investigation and banning are collusion between the Yankees and MLB to not pay him his money?

Like it or not but the Yankees agreed to pay him up the ass for 10 years. They should not be allowed to back out now. I think it is a bad contract, but how many other bad ones have the Yankees signed in recent years.

Are you one of many ARod's lawyers with this conspiracy crap? ;) :p I don't doubt Cashman and co are jumping over joy over this opportunity to get out of a bad contract, but ARod brought it upon himself by cheating.

I hope the next CBA includes language that if caught using PED's their contracts can be voided. That is one way to get PED's out of the game.

A-Rod has played his hand badly, but why is MLB using him to make an example. Is it because he is the biggest target? Why not crack down on all of the cheaters and ban them all.

We don't know what evidence they have on A-Rod or anyone because they never released it. For some reason, being it because he is a cocky son of a bitch or he feels like he can win he is fighting to the end. I wonder when his support runs out and the union stops backing him. Maybe if they did that years ago he would not be a Yankee now.

He has a history of this behavior( his "claimed" 2001-2003 use). He also reportedly obstructed MLB's investigation and destroyed evidence. He helped recruit the cheaters( most likely Cervelli and Montero and probably others) to the clinic, etc. And he has been associated with a doctor that brought in HGH from Canada to give to players.

While we don't know what kind of evidence they have on ARod, but it must be pretty damning if the scum bag that is Braun made a deal and most of the players involved are cutting deals and will serve the suspension without appeal reportedly. I don't know how ARod expects to win his appeal when everyone else is pretty much admitting to wrong doing. I also fully anticipate part of these players deals include implicating ARod in recruiting them to the clinic if the recruiting part is true.

Selig has wanted to get A-Rod for a long time. This could be a very interesting court case if he ever took it that far. The dirty laundry on all sides might come out.

I think the Yankees are playing both sides here. Even A-Rod acknowledges a feeling he has that the Yankees don't want him back. I agree with him. To me it looks like the Yankees don't ever want to see A-Rod in pinstripes ever again, even if they need bats immediately. Yet they pencil him in for games. It's like they don't want to burn bridges with him and have him be a complete disruption if he for some reason comes back imminently, which luckily for them, is looking more and more remote.

That's part of it, they are saving face in public but behind the scenes they want him gone. This is why they haven't played him in over a month when he said he was healthy. This announcement from MLB could not come soon enough for them. I don't think they can stall any longer.

Looks like now that Selig will not use the CBA to prevent ARod from playing during the appeal process. So look for ARod in uniform tomorrow night.

Twelve players suspended for PEDs

Twelve players have accepted 50-game suspensions for violating baseball’s drug policy, Ken Rosenthal reports, citing sources.

An announcement is still expected for a potential suspension for Alex Rodriguez.

Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz, Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta, Phillies reliever Antonio Bastardo, Mets outfielder Jordany Valdespin, Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera, free-agent pitcher Jordan Norberto, Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli, Mariners catcher/designated hitter Jesus Montero, Mets outfielder Cesar Puello, Astros minor league reliever Sergio Escalona, Padres minor league reliever Fautino De Los Santos and Yankees minor league outfielder Fernando Martinez have accepted their punishments handed out by Major League Baseball based on findings in its investigation of the Biogenesis anti-aging clinic in Coral Gables, Fla.

The clinic and its founder, Anthony Bosch, are alleged to have provided performance-enhancing drugs to major league players, as well as athletes in other sports.

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun accepted a 65-game suspension on July 22 and will not play the remainder of this season.

Athletics pitcher Bartolo Colon, Blue Jays outfielder Melky Cabrera and Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal — who were all named in Biogenesis documents — have each served a 50-game suspension following a positive test. They will receive no additional punishment. Colon and Cabrera served their suspensions during the 2012 season; Grandal served his at the beginning of this season.

Nationals starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez and Orioles third baseman Danny Valencia, who both were named in media reports on the investigation, were cleared of any involvement.

Alex Rodriguez of New York Yankees suspended 211 Regular Season Games through 2014 season. Press release:

YANKEES’ RODRIGUEZ DISCIPLINED

New York Third Baseman Suspended 211 Regular Season Games Through 2014 Season

Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig announced today that third baseman Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees has been suspended without pay for the remainder of the 2013 Championship Season and Postseason and the entire 2014 Championship Season for violations of the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program and the Basic Agreement.

Rodriguez's discipline under the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program is based on his use and possession of numerous forms of prohibited performance-enhancing substances, including Testosterone and human Growth Hormone, over the course of multiple years. Rodriguez's discipline under the Basic Agreement is for attempting to cover-up his violations of the Program by engaging in a course of conduct intended to obstruct and frustrate the Office of the Commissioner's investigation. The suspension, which will become effective on Thursday, August 8th, will cover 211 Championship Season games and any 2013 Postseason games in which Rodriguez otherwise would have been eligible to play.

Under the terms of the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, Rodriguez’s suspension will be stayed until the completion of his appeal if Rodriguez files a grievance challenging his discipline.

Baseball Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig made the following statement today regarding the discipline issued
to players in relation to Major League Baseball’s Biogenesis investigation:

“Major League Baseball has worked diligently with the Players Association for more than a decade to make our
Joint Drug Program the best in all of professional sports. I am proud of the comprehensive nature of our efforts – not
only with regard to random testing, groundbreaking blood testing for human Growth Hormone and one of the most
significant longitudinal profiling programs in the world, but also our investigative capabilities, which proved vital to the
Biogenesis case. Upon learning that players were linked to the use of performance-enhancing drugs, we vigorously
pursued evidence that linked those individuals to violations of our Program. We conducted a thorough, aggressive
investigation guided by facts so that we could justly enforce our rules.

“Despite the challenges this situation has created during a great season on the field, we pursued this matter
because it was not only the right thing to do, but the only thing to do. For weeks, I have noted the many players
throughout the game who have strongly voiced their support on this issue, and I thank them for it. I appreciate the
unwavering support of our owners and club personnel, who share my ardent desire to address this situation
appropriately. I am also grateful to the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society and our club physicians, who
were instrumental in the banning of amphetamines and whose expertise remains invaluable to me. As an institution,
we have made unprecedented strides together.

“It is important to point out that 16,000 total urine and blood tests were conducted on players worldwide under
MLB Drug Programs in 2012. With the important additions of the hGH testing and longitudinal profiling this season, we
are more confident than ever in the effectiveness of the testing program. Those players who have violated the
Program have created scrutiny for the vast majority of our players, who play the game the right way.

“This case resoundingly illustrates that the strength of our Program is not limited only to testing. We continue
to attack this issue on every front – from science and research, to education and awareness, to fact-finding and
investigative skills. Major League Baseball is proud of the enormous progress we have made, and we look forward to
working with the players to make the penalties for violations of the Drug Program even more stringent and a stronger
deterrent.

“As a social institution with enormous social responsibilities, Baseball must do everything it can to maintain
integrity, fairness and a level playing field. We are committed to working together with players to reiterate that
performance-enhancing drugs will not be tolerated in our game.”

I wonder how long A-Rod's people will try to delay and slow down the appeals process. Some of the talking heads on ESPN think he may slow the process out so long that he'll finish play 2013 before the appeals process wraps up.

Another kicker, when A-Rod passes Willie Mays he gets a $6 million bonus. He is 13 HR's away.

If that is the case, I hope that MLB doesn't just reduce his punishment to the 2014 season. It should carry 50 some games into 2015.

MLB should handle appeals the way Formula One used to. If it's a bad appeal that is designed just to delay a punishment then there should be more punishment added. If A-Rod loses his appeal they should add like 25 more games to his suspension ;)

Deadspin: A Non-Exhaustive List Of People MLB Has Not Suspended For 211 Games

Major League Baseball has suspended Alex Rodriguez for 211 games. There are, however, many people who haven't been suspended for 211 games. Here are a few of them:

Andy Pettitte, a confessed hGH user.

Manny Ramirez, who failed two drug tests.

Ugueth Urbina, who was part of a mob that attacked a group of men with machetes and poured gasoline all over them.

Elijah Dukes, who in 2007 reportedly texted his wife a picture of a gun and left her a menacing voice mail. ("You dead, dawg. I ain't even ********ting. Your kids, too.")

Kevin Koch, the Pirate Parrot who hooked up a bunch of ballplayers with cocaine.

Tony LaRussa, who drove under the influence.

Delmon Young, who drunkenly attacked a guy while shouting, "****ing Jews!"

Josh Lueke, who pled no contest to false imprisonment as part of a plea bargain after being charged with rape.

Brett Myers, who was arrested after witnesses told police they saw him hitting his wife on a street near Fenway Park.

Curt Schilling, who was injected with the powerful performance enhancing drug Toradol "almost every single game for the last 10 years" of his career.

Willie Mays, whose locker, according to the testimony of a former teammate, was a source of powerful performance enhancing drugs.

Luis Polonia, who pled no contest to charges of having sex with a minor under the age of 16.

Dante Bichette, who was arrested for aggravated battery over an incident involving a pregnant 19-year-old.

Francisco Rodriguez, who beat up his girlfriend's father in Citi Field.

Mike Leake, unauthorized user of property.

Vince Coleman, who injured two small children after tossing a firecracker at a crowd of people.

Julio Machado, who shot a woman in the head after getting into an accident with a car in which she was a passenger.

Milton Bradley, convicted of spousal battery, among other things.

Many other ballplayers and figures associated with the game, including Derek Jeter, Cal Ripken, Jr., Tony Gwynn, Tom Seaver, Frank Robinson, and Greg Maddux, have also not been suspended for 211 games.

ARod's suspension is more then PED use. He got the usual 50 game suspension for that. The 161 game suspension comes from obstruction, tampering with evidence, etc. Now MLB has to prove that with the evidence they have.

It seems like he just pissed Bud Selig off. Ryan Braun lied and acted high and mighty when he got off on a technicality and only got half a season. Melky Cabrera created a fake website in an effort to mislead investigators. He only got the minimum first offender suspension.

Mark McGwire is a HITTING COACH!! It's OK though, because he finally admitted to some wrongdoing. Forget about the joke that was his record breaking season.

The point of that Deadspin list is that those who you can argue have done far worse - in terms of broken laws and multiple test fails - have been given a pass.

Todd Helton just got popped this season (or offseason) for a DWI. It's ok to like him, though, because he didn't kill anyone. Or lie to Bud Selig. And he's an icon in Colorado. How many Rockies fans are going to ignore that while damning A-Rod?

I understand what the MLB is trying to do. Get PED's out of the game. But they are very, very late. They had no problem ignoring it for so long, and now they just look like they are trying to make a statement with an unsympathetic figure. If this was David Ortiz, would they be taking the same route?

They also seem to have no problem ignoring the players who are getting arrested. Start banning players who get arrested for DWI for a season and see how much good they can do. They are making themselves look very bad and hypocritical.

I know ARod is an a**. And he's a Yankee, which makes him even easier to hate. But, honestly, this whole thing just stinks.

PS: I love how ESPN is covering this debacle. Yet they have no problem hiring Ray Lewis. I mean, come on!!
