The Yankees can keep him out all they want but they still have to pay him. Most likely they are waiting for the league to suspend him without pay.

I'm referring to the insurance policy that pays 80% of his salary if he doesn't play this season. I really doubt his circus of distractions and .250 BA is worth $20 million to the Yankees.

The Yankees are always about winning and making the playoffs. Right now A-Rod healthy or not is the best chance at doing that. It looks like the Yankees are more about money than winning now.

Do you really think so? ARod is a head case on his best day. Do you think that he can preform at the level the Yanks would need him to under the HUGE black cloud that is following him? I don't believe that the end would justify the means. I know our right handed hitting has been atrocious, but I just can't see how he would have any positive impact.

He hasn't been worth they've been paying him for years, and adding the off the field drama I can see why the Yanks want to make him and his contract go away ASAP.

And for what its worth, as a lifelong fan, I'd rather miss the playoffs than have him put on the pinstripes this year - or ever again. It would be a circus and I'd hate for that to overshadow Mariano's last few months. He deserves better and so do we as fans. This has been an embarrassment.

When he opted out of his contact I didn't want him back. The Yankees should have called his bluff and let him walk. They gave him this absurd contract and now they are stuck with it. They can't blame any of this on A-Rod, they gave him the money and now they are stuck with him.

The Yankees signed an old team, they wanted championships and they got one. Now they are left with a broken down old car with no way to get any money for it.

Hank was an idiot for signing him again....

As a huge Braves fan, I grew to love the Mets in 90s and still like them today. And how the Mets handled the situation just reinforced the idea that they're a classy team.

Sounds like it was awful. I won't watch the video of it.

yeah. I just went to the NY Times page abut it. I was able to read the story and scroll past the slo-mo gif they had playing without seeing it. I hate it for him. The Mets players did seem to be a pretty classy lot.

Anyone want to take CC off our hands?

Seriously.... What is up with CC this season?

So now A-Rod might take the deal...
After Alex Rodriguez's lawyer said his client would fight any discipline from Major League Baseball, a source familiar with discussions told ESPN's "Outside the Lines" Wednesday that A-Rod's representatives are now negotiating a possible settlement that could result in a lengthy suspension.

The source said MLB officials have told Rodriguez's attorneys that they are willing to ban him for life, although sources said it was not clear commissioner Bud Selig was prepared to make such a move, knowing Rodriguez would fight it in arbitration.

Several sources have told "Outside the Lines" that some MLB officials have pushed for a lifetime ban, saying they would rather force Rodriguez to defend himself than agree to a suspension that allows him play while he appeals. Rodriguez was presented with MLB's evidence in recent days, detailing what sources said were "volumes" of documents establishing a connection between Rodriguez and Biogenesis clinic founder Tony Bosch.

You know ARod, the intelligent thing to do is to take the lifetime ban. You will not be welcomed back in NY. You have already ruined the relationship with the Yankees. Who knows what your teammates think of you now. And the fans will probably boo you all the way to Siberia.

He still thinks he can get into the HOF, this is why he doesn't want to take the ban.

He's not that delusional. Even if he is banned for 2013/2014 then he can retire and still get $61 million from his contract. If he is banned for life, he gets nothing.

A 2014 ban will help the Yankees get under $189 million. That $25 million will go a long way.....

I agree with Buck Showalter, sorry Yankees fans. That bed was made by team management, they shouldn't get the gift of a do-over no one else in baseball gets.

Buck Showalter Says The Yankees Win If A-Rod Is Suspended

“They’re the ones who signed him to that contract.

“If Bud lets them get away with that, they’re under the luxury tax. If they can reset, they can spend again and I guarantee you in two years Matt Wieters is in New York."

Making his contract just go away completely is massively unfair, although I wouldn't put it past MLB/Bud to help the Yankees out in any way possible to fix their mess. Beyond the whole fairness of his punishment, the Yankees signed that albatross of a contract, they should have to suffer through it, or find a dumb trading partner like other teams.

Hate to agree with a Red Sox fan.

Selig is trying to help the Yankees buy banning A-Rod. They are trying to make an example out of him and let everyone else slide. I hated the huge contract they gave him. (Of course had A-Rod been clean and he broke the HR record I would not have cared.) :p This pile on with no failed drug test is stupid. Either release what you have on him or shut up and let him play.

That's very mature of you, MacNut. :D

Wait until the Angels get near the end of those Hamilton/Pujols contracts. They're going to be brutal and the Angels will be paying for it, like any team should have to for giving out dumb ass contracts. Either that or you have to give up a gifted hitter in his prime like Adrian Gonzalez to fix it (and also find a rich, dumb trade partner). :(

Either way, yeah. "Making an example of A-Rod" is code for giving the Yankees a huge do over. I hope it doesn't turn out that way.

It's all about the money. ARod doesn't care about baseball. He doesn't care about his image, legacy, etc. Just wants his money.

he most substantive offer Rodriguez’s camp has come up with in previous discussions with MLB and the Players Association, according to sources, was for an 80- to 100-game suspension and Rodriguez’s promise to then retire. “The only problem with that,” said one source, “is that they wanted him to retire and get paid his remaining contract -- a paid vacation, in other words.”

And how much of this investigation and banning are collusion between the Yankees and MLB to not pay him his money?

Like it or not but the Yankees agreed to pay him up the ass for 10 years. They should not be allowed to back out now. I think it is a bad contract, but how many other bad ones have the Yankees signed in recent years.
