It's humorous reading the Yankee forums. The number one complaint is the Red Sox beards and how the beards are disrespecting baseball :D.

....And that's the difference between Yankees and Red Sox fans. Red Sox fans have to seek us out and and learn from us. I'm pretty sure my baseball IQ would be minimized greatly after reading stuff from Sox fans. (present company and the Queen excluded, of course) ;)

And honestly, those beards aren't disrespecting baseball. They're disrespecting the eyes of those of us who have taste! :D

As a Yankee fan, I find that humorous too.

There is a lot of talk of the beards on Twitter also - and I kind of agree with them. I think they look like crap, and they like haven't showered in days, but I'm not the most objective when it comes to the Red Sox, so you have to take it with a grain of salt. That said, I do appreciate the grooming policy of the Yanks. If I had to look at those hairy men every day, I'd probably have to switch to radio and then I'd be stuck with John & Susan!

I think the Red Sox looked worse with the idiots than they do now. Millar and Damon looked stupid.

True! Yankees fans are so cultured, classy, and knowledgeable compared to lugnut Red Sox fans. :D LOL. You're a rare Yankees fan I can stand, so congrats on that honor. Actually, I don't mind any Yankees fans that don't have a pair of pinstriped colored glasses permanently affixed to their eyes.

I really don't get this at all, my only conclusion is that you guys are totally brainwashed via pinstripe into agreeing with the Yankees' stupid and outdated policy. People should be able to wear their hair and facial hair however they want, it's awfully draconian to have that kind of dumb rule in 2013.

I realize I'm incredibly liberal, so I might be biased, but even if I didn't like so and so's beard, it's their right to rock it. It's nuts that it's even a thing, and even more nuts that Yankees fans support it. Organizations should focus more on their players being good people and good citizens above what kind of haircut they have. Also, that's sticking their nose where it really doesn't belong.

Personally, I like the beards. They're all pretty well groomed and they kind of fit the guys well. But even if I didn't like them (I remember Kevin Millar had a horrible handlebar mustache for awhile, and so did Trot Nixon), I'd never want them to be banned. We're not in communist Russia.

Damon was fine, I hated many instances of Millar's mustache...but again, they're grown men. They should be allowed to wear their facial hair however they want. You may hate the Red Sox, but I don't see how anyone really thinks that kind of rule is appropriate.

I was not a fan of the act more than the facial hair. They just came off looking like *******s.

*******s with championship rings. :D I think it was partly a reflection of the fact that the Red Sox hadn't won in 86 years. That kind of pressure and expected disappointment building over eight and a half long decades takes it's toll on the city, fan base, and team. I feel like it took that kind of lighthearted, almost child-like approach to ignore/get past it.

But to each his own. There are plenty of Red Sox fans who didn't like the "idiot" schtick either.

The schtick got old when the team stopped winning.

The idiot schtick? That hasn't really been a thing since 2005. Not sure what you're referring to.
Wasn't there carryover up until Francona's firing. While the schtick might have left years earlier a lot of the players still existed.

Not really, no. That was kind of one season lightning in a bottle. Once they won, the culture changed a bit. After the WS win, Pedro left, Lowe left, Orlando Cabrera left, Mientkiewicz left. Not only with the hangover from winning during the 2005 season, but by the start of the 2006 season Lowe, Millar, Arroyo, and Johnny Damon were all gone.

The 2007 team was totally different. So it was a pretty short-lived theme.

The Red Sox will honor Mo on Sunday.

I wouldn't be surprised as a gag gift they bring out a giant thank you card saying thanks for 2004. :p

Ahhh, I think the cheer he got at Fenway in 2005 was enough. :) The man was damn near unbeatable for his entire career. Glad he's retiring. Much respect, but as a Red Sox fan, I'm glad his run is over. And he went out with another good year. Not dominant 90s/00s Rivera, but better than most. He's always showed Boston fans respect, and I appreciate that.

We have our obnoxious band wagon jumpers just like everyone else! For the most part, we're awesome though!

I've been called liberal myself, you know. ;)

I think it's more that I'm more of a traditional baseball fan. I like seeing the guys in the old days coming to the stadium in suits and hats. And maybe I support it because it's all I've known. I don't think it's a matter of being brainwashed, though. The organization has done plenty of things I don't agree with and I have no problem calling them out on it. But, I'm glad it's about the pinstripes and not about some awful facial hair. (At least in my mind).

Ironically, I'm a programmer and have worked with tons of computer guys who are tatted up and have piercings everywhere and have had to remove and cover them up because we spent a lot of time at client sites. I've spent most of my career in the finance industry so it's something I'm used to. I have a few myself that I keep covered up. I've also known programmers who have chosen not to do what I've done because they didn't want to have to "conform". So, the Yankees aren't doing anything that out of the ordinary. Plenty of companies have the same type of policies. And let's face it. Baseball people get away with doing drugs, beating their wives, driving drunk - things I would get fired for pretty quickly at my job. So, don't feel too badly that they have to be (mostly) clean shaven. ;)

And has it really hurt the Yanks in terms of getting people? Mike Napoli would shave that stuff in a NY minute if they offered him enough money.

I mean I guess that's what I don't get, the nostalgia for that time period - what, the 50s, 60s? When baseball was pretty segregated and discriminatory? When owners took advantage of players and paid them nothing? Because the 70s and 80s featured some awesome facial hair. I mean, I don't know, am I being crazy unfair?

And I guess I feel like it's super hypocritical to allow drug users, wife beaters, and drunks to play but beards aren't allowed. Really? Knowing what a shady crook Steinbrenner was, he demanded his players shave? Like that's where you draw the line? He'd bat a criminal 3rd if he drove in 120 runs, come on.

Corporate america is nothing to set as a standard, either - although I'd argue that it's an entirely different kettle of fish, especially when we're just talking beards/hair here, and not like, face piercings. I know we'll never agree on this, but I'm always surprised by Yankees fans that support it.

I'm more of a 20's and 30's gal. Lou Gehrig just wouldn't have looked good with a beard. ;)

I don't disagree that George Steinbrenner was a criminal and a hypocrite. He always saw the Yankees as the "class" of baseball. And I think he truly wanted to keep the pinstripe "tradition" alive. All the while hiring and firing Billy Martin 100 times. ;)

One thing I always admired about George (literally, one thing) was that he never wavered on changing the uniform. The Yankees are probably the only team in baseball that don't have "alternate" uniforms. And even though they could probably make a billion more dollars if they did, it just wouldn't feel the same. They've been wearing those uniforms for almost 100 years. He also could have made a mint selling the naming rights to the stadium and he never wavered. I think he sees (or saw, because he's dead) the grooming policy as the same thing. Trying to maintain some of the old traditions. It looks even stupider because he was such an a**, but I can honestly see where it's coming from.

If they changed it tomorrow, I'd be fine with the change as well.

But, we can definitely agree to disagree. :D

The Red Sox suck. Can't get the job done tonight.

Hopefully Rodney has another blown save in him.

Mariano got the win, not the save tonight. Scorers reasoning? Robertson was brief and ineffective. How does that make sense?

The game was tied in the 9th so Robertson could not get the win.

But then they retook the lead. With Robertson being the pitcher still in the game at the time, he should have gotten the win and Mo the save.

I believe that the official scorer can still give the win to another pitcher if he feels the supposed "winning pitcher" didn't deserve it. It's kind of what they do when a starter doesn't got 5 - the scorer assigns the win to the pitcher most deserving.

Robertson has blown leads before and still getting the win when the Yanks retook it.

It's a joke. Though I believe it can still be changed....

Eh, it's not a huge deal. Don't forget Soriano stole a home run also. But as long as they won the game, I'm sure D Rob doesn't care who gets the win.

It's not upset over DRob being robbed of a win. I'm upset over Mo not getting the save. ;)

But, as you said I bet Mo doesn't give a crap about it.

Tampa Bay is a good team, it's tough to sweep a series, and the Red Sox were probably thinking ahead to the Yankee series at Fenway this weekend (I'm sure the Yankees will win one :p ).

If you think a pitcher's win vs save decision seems arbitrary, how about determination of errors. It always seems to be based on if it's a home or away team.
