One down, two to go for the Red Sox :D.

I'm wondering why nobody is considering the first wildcard slot. At the rate Texas is going, I doubt they will make the wildcard. I'm predicting Cleveland for the first wildcard and either Tampa Bay or the Yankees for the second Wildcard.

With 19 points scored, and at Dodgers stadium no less, the Giants showed up with the record game of their 52 seasons at that location. I only wished we scored like that at home against the Dodgers. They may win this whole season with a WS but it was nice to add this win for the Giants of owning Dodgers stadium in a way it never has. Pence had 7 RBIs and Lincecum was on the mound for us. We better keep both those 2014 free agents.

They won again last night. What is the Red Sox's magic number down to? 6 I think. Still can't quite believe how well they are playing. It's like the anti-2011 team.

You are right. The Rangers are really plummeting. Anything can happen in the last 15 games.

I think they've both earned their way back. The question is, will some other team come along and offer one of both of them a contract offer that is beyond all sense of reason.

The Zito money is coming off the books, so that helps a lot. Both Gaudin and Petit have demonstrated they deserve a spot in the rotation in 2014. Just need Cain to bounce back and Lincecum to be more consistent.

So one of he gifts to Mo wasn't a big thank you card, but a picture of his reaction on opening day in 2005. :)

If Lincecum and Cain have any of that no-hitter pitching left (from 2013 and 2013, respectively) and can spread it out and be consistent, then Gaudin, Petit, Vogelsong, Bumgarner and others can make the team a pitching power house again. Pence made this 4 for 4 with homers in each game against LA which hasn't been done since Willie Mays. We took three of four from arguably the best team of 2013 and if we finish with at least even money for this year or just second place in the NL West then it wasn't a waste. Baseball is such a marathon type of thing so a bad season or two is no reason to release great talent like Lincecum or Cain.

If LA had any highlights in this Dodger home series it was Brian Wilson pitching the save against his own team in the first and only game they won and he will be good for them for many years to come.

Though, they did give him a big thank you card. It was a big 42 with everyone on the team writing messages and signing it.

I would have liked to have seen Mo pitch to at least 1 batter in the 8th. I'm sure he would have received a long standing ovation.

It's looking more like Cleveland and Tampa Bay in the wild card game.

I was referencing a thank you card for 2004 as a gag gift. The picture was a reference to his reaction on opening day in 2005 when the fans at Fenway were thanking him for it. He handled it the up most class.

The AL Wild Card continues to be interesting.

Indians win, Rays lose, Rangers win; which means the Indians now hold a 1-game lead over both the Rays and Rangers. Tomorrow this crazy race will finally be decided.

For you haters, the Yankee dynasty is coming to a end. Back to earth next season.

Watching the guys on MLB Network explain the AL Wild Card situation reminded me of this:

You never know. A year ago I thought the Red Sox were going to be bottom dwellers for several years. Most picked them to finish last in the A.L. East this year.

The Yankees might be down for the moment but they won't be there for long.

It all depends on if the Yanks can get below $189 million this offseason. If they can, I expect them to be spenders again in the 2014-2015 off season.

The other issue is everyone is locking up their good players so the free agent market will be weak for awhile. Our farm system is not that strong. The three B's ended up busting. Our catchers are weak offensively. Our farm system is still producing some good quality players( Cano and Robertson), but nothing like Bernie, Jeter, Posada, Mo, and Pettitte. Phelps shows promise as does Warren, but they are still unknowns. Who knows what we will get out of Pineda( though Montero isn't doing much better either with the Mariners).

If we lose Cano this offseason, we probably won't be in WS contention until 2016-2017.

Not to be a bastard, but the Yankee dynasty has been over for awhile. The dynasty years were 1996 - 2000. You could say the remnants are coming to an end.

Think Jeter will hang them up? Or play another year?

I would say 1996-2003. They were pretty much in the WS every year outside '97 and '02.

The AL wild card chase just got even MORE interesting...

Indians win, guaranteeing them home field in the Wild Card game. Rays and Rangers won too, which means they play each other on Monday in Texas (since the Rangers lead the season series against the Rays) to determine who plays the Indians in Cleveland on Wednesday.

More like the end of an era, with all the key players from those teams retiring.

Though they were really one Mariano Rivera error and a broken bat single from winning in 2001. Another loss in 2003 and a win in 2009. And how many ALCS appearances? It's easy to forget they were in the ALCS just last year with not a very good team. I mean if the Braves were the team of the 90's with more WS losses than wins, can't we call the Yankees of the last 15 or so years a dynasty? ;)

It's been a heck of a run, though. I'm looking forward to seeing a new batch of young guys making their mark in the next few years. I think they'll probably overpay for Cano (relatively - I mean look how much Hunter Pence will be making a year!), but hopefully they won't spend too stupidly.

No way Jeter hangs them up. If he's healthy enough to play next year he will - though he'll probably be DH'ing more than he wants to.

I used the term to signify the core players that made it possible. Sure the dynasty ended in 2001, when O'Neil retired. But they still had opportunities ever since. Without Rivera and Pettitte I see these chances getting slimmer.

I see Jeter playing next year and then it getting sticky for the Yankees. Will he retire or want to stick it out.

I've heard reports that according to his friends, if he can remain healthy next year, he will want to play for 2 more years.

If so, thanks for the memories Jeter, but we can't be held hostage by you/your ego.

It all hinges on how healthy and how many games Jeter plays nest season. If he has an awesome year I don't see how they don't pick up his option.

Well, then I guess the Patriots are still within their dynasty based on that criteria, right? :D

In all seriousness, it's the end of an era for sure. Can't say I'm sorry to see it end, but the core has had a good run. We'll see how the Yankees move forward. They have a lot of work to do, but there's also opportunity.

Tomorrow should be an interesting day with the Rays/Rangers battling it out for the final wild card spot.
