The Rockies have gotten off to a nice start 5-1 through the first week of the season. I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised.

Congrats on that. My Giants have had a pretty mediocre start. I hope Tim can pitch today!

Also, the Johnny Damon defection really, really bothered me. I know as well as anyone else that baseball is a business, and loyalty goes are far as the next paycheck, but still that one stung. We adored him and it seemed like he adored us right back. Then had no problem singing with the Yankees with the same smile. Yuck. Sometimes, with some players, you forget reality for a minute. :(

That said, there are few former Red Sox (who helped us win a championship, even) that I would boo.

As an aside, does it drive anyone else NUTS when people buy home jerseys with the name stitched on the back when it wouldn't be authentically? Like Red Sox and Yankees home jerseys. God I hate it.

Drives me nuts too!!! ugh.

Sorry, I thought someone might want to actually discuss baseball economics. Sometimes I don't know why I even bother around here.
Didn't John Henry do a dine and dash when he owned the team. Wasn't there a huge sell off before he sold to Loria.

Glad the Rockies could help out with that.

I didn't expect that being that you guys hit big and early, also Lincecum fell apart but got lucky with SF's batters to avoid loss in his game, and Barry Zito's streak last year still seems to hold magic this year, too giving him his 16th consecutive win. The all time record is 18 starter wins with NY Giants back in the day, mixed in with 6 relief wins giving a total of 24.

Zito was also a part of the extraordinary Oakland A's streak featured in Moneyball. Overall though, he has had more bad years than good ones with the SF Giants but this streak and winning game 1 in World Series against Verlander and starting our WS sweep goes a long way towards forgiving all those losses and high salary.

There are just too many ifs around SF with Lincecum's slump which started last year, a few players that are pretty old, and no Brian Wilson thus nobody expects a World Series repeat performance. If anything, the smart money is on the LA Dodgers.

Really sad that Jeffrey Loria is going to get away with what he's done to the Marlins and the taxpayers of South Florida. He should be in jail, not making a profit from the future sale of the team.

Marlins Park is basically empty

That is disgraceful. When is the MLB going to step in and get them out? I know they went through all the trouble of blackmailing the Astros into changing leagues to make it even, but the Marlins are a franchise that doesn't deserve to stay in business.

Ohhhhh Yankees just turned a Triple Play!!

Amazing. So glad I got to see that live! (on mlb.tv, not in person!).

I don't think many saw it in person, cold there.:p

Start spreading the news...

Nunez must have a magnet to keep on getting hit.... Or it was just the baseball gods coming back to finish the job.....

But, Nunez needs to learn to turn the other way when a ball is coming at him. He keeps exposing himself to getting injured by turning the way he does.

The Toronto Marlins are not off to the start they had hoped, Reyes carted off the field.

Or maybe they should put that body armor on him that the big sluggers use!

Hopefully it's not as bad as it looks...but those ankle into the bag plays never end well.

Reyes has a left ankle sprain, out at least a month.

And the Cubs suck again this year. I'm not surprised, Tommy boy is to busy trying to polish a crumbling building into something it's not. Every year Cubs fans get the hamstrung by ownership with the "we're in rebuilding mode". I've heard this phrase since 2004.

I headed out yesterday to Wrigley on comp tickets and the allure of Darwin Barney Gold Glove replica give a way, to show my bare minimum support. Great seats two rows back behind the Giants dug out. Good times watching crap baseball, and finally fans are starting to show displeasure by not attending. They claimed 34k but I would estimate it around 19-20k.
