Another great race. So much wheel to wheel action. Lewis came from 20th to 3rd. Without the damaged wing I think he would have had second for sure.
Ricardo vs Alonso was another great duel.
Massa was lucky to walk away unhurt, but unlucky again to lose out through no fault of his own.
Could to see Williams collect there 300th podium. Hopefully they can take it to the Mercs before the season is out.
And how much contact was there throughout the race? Especially for Kimi who was in a sandwich from both sides.
And only seven days to wait for the next instalment!:)

I'm really disappointed. This is the second race in a row where the satellite recording was all messed up and digital. The last race it lasted about halfway through and I got to see the end without it messing up. But today, the whole thing was ruined.

The strange thing is, no other channel or recording I have on my DVR has done this.

• Great race by Hammy - he was up into 2nd for a while
• As much as I like Massa, that was his fault
• I had to chuckle when Bottas boasted that they beat Mercedes in a fair fight. Dude - you started some 18 spots in front of Hamilton, and he had front wing damage when he caught up to you
• Heard Varsha working something called IRL for NBCSN, so I'm hoping he'll be back at some point

NBCSN (and the BBC if you have a VPN) offer streaming replays, although NBCSN gets stingy with them if they don't have sponsorship, which is nasty...

In any case - not sure if your provider just had technical difficulties or it was a scheduling issue, but you might try setting a manual recording for next time for your DVR where you specify the channel, start time and end time. Some providers have crummy guide data.

????? That sure looked like it was Massa's fault to me. He squeezed the car to his inside and lost it.

i thought so too.

lewis might had won if there were about 6 more laps!

bottas had a good day.

well done nico.

@smithrh : i like the other guy better than varsha. so, "no to varsha" for me.

That damaged front wing was trashing his left front tire. I think he ran out of front end grip and simply couldn't pass Bottas. Had it it gone 6 more laps he likely would have lost tons of time.

I have DirecTV (no VPN setup and no interest either). I'll have to contact them to inquire about difficulties on that channel and hope they can resolve it. I also should tune into it at other times to see if that station always has this problem, because I never watch it for anything but F1.

Hmmmm... I also have DirecTV and a DVR from them, I've had no issues all season, so it's coming of the satellite just fine.

WRT Varsha - I suspect quite a few people won't like a 100% non-american announcing crew. Plus, he's been covering F1 since the early 80's if not sooner - the other guy is an idiot racing league refugee. He's OK, but bring on Varsha.

Hamilton may have caught Bottas (had his tyres held up) but getting past and catching Nico would have been way out of reach. If Nico had felt a charge from the second place guy, I'm sure he had plenty in reserve.

I'm home now and checked the channels above and below 220 and they all seem to work fine. But 220 is displaying 771 signal loss. I called DirecTV and followed all their troubleshooting steps to no avail.

I have the protection plan and they're sending a tech out tomorrow evening to, hopefully, fix it.

It's almost certainly due to your dish falling just a bit out of alignment. It's possible to have great reception on 2 of the 3 sats or even just 1 of the 3 sats and get nothing on the others.

I believe Varsha was under contract with FOX, which is why he could not (or chose not) to make the move to NBCSN with Hobbo and Matchett.

It was kind of interesting to have Diffey doing F1 and Varsha doing IRL, as in the past when there was a conflict on NBC/NBCSN, Diffey would cover IRL and they would sub Varsha in for F1.

Oh for sure he was under contract, he was doing those weird auction deals for Fox - I had some hope when NBCSN (I keep typing MSNBC!) got Varsha back for that one race earlier...

IIRC, Varsha's a lawyer; he's got really good recall and he knows all of the miscellaneous faces that the F1 feed pops up on the screen. When I first started watching, I thought they were just random fans, which isn't the case.

There's also some nice interplay between Hobbsey and Varsha that just isn't there otherwise.

(I've also noticed some sharp commentary between Matchett and Buxton. Will: "ABC XYZ!" Steve: "You're talking foolishness." Interesting)

The DirecTV guy was just here and found my dish was out of alignment. He fixed that and channel 220 comes in again. Hooray!

Now I should be able to see the next race.

German GP is available to stream for a few days... http://stream.nbcsports.com/liveextra/#replays

It was an interesting race, I'd recommend you give it a whirl.

Also, lots of information comes in the practice sessions, and qualifying is really a) very important and b) fairly exciting, especially as compared to other motorsports.

So, my recommendation is to watch Friday practice and Saturday qualifying as well.

That's so cool - I didn't know they provided a link to watch it afterward.

It was a fairly entertaining race. An opening lap accident, more car bumps than usual, and enough overtakes to keep you wondering how it might actually end.

Thanks for the link, but the website keeps sending me into a login loop with DirecTV.

Of the couple of races I could watch, I did watch the practices and qualifying days. Lots of good stuff there too, as you mentioned.

Edit: I couldn't get it to log in with Safari and tried it with Firefox and it's sort of working. The race is playing, and I'm trying to AirPlay it to the Apple TV. The sound is playing on my MBP and the video is partly cut off on the TV screen.

I stopped trying with the AirPlay and Firefox. Playback in Firefox was choppy every .5 seconds. However, ironically, the soccer commercial just before the pre-race commentary played perfectly.

I finally got it to log in under Safari and playback on the MBP is working fine. Sheesh. What a pain in the butt just to watch a race!

Anyway, on lap 13, Alonso had a pit stop that lasted 2.3 seconds! That is impressive!

Quite a lot of good battles going on too and it's neat to see Hamilton work his way back up the field after starting so far back under a penalty.

I think the subtle lesson is just to stick to Safari... :)

Note, the main reason Hammy took the penalty is because of his hard crash during Q1 (the first qualifying session) - even without the penalty he was going to start 16th or so. Adding the 5-spot penalty on wasn't a big deal, he was going to pass the "backmarkers" in a lap anyways, so might as well sneak in a transmission change anyways.

Safari is my primary browser, but I had to try Firefox because I couldn't get logged in initially.

Overall the race was really good, lot's of good racing and excitement. The battle between Ferrari and Mercedes was fantastic.

Hungaroring (sp?) might be the perfect track for williams! ;)

ooops! just read Bottas quotes nd he says it's not the best track for their car…
:(

i disconcur… ?

That's what I saw too. He squeezed the inside car. Of course he blames everyone but himself in the post race interview and even throws in the excuse that his teammate was beside him so he couldn't see mag on the inside. That doesn't excuse turning in blind.

Pretty dick move to also try and throw your weight as a veteran and blame it on the inexperienced drivers not taking due caution.
