Went to the Yanks vs Cards @ Busch yesterday. Pretty good times, all of the Yankees fans were great sports and good baseball folks (Cubs and Reds fans I've run into at Busch were so-so).

Jeter got a lot of love from Cards nation, very cool thing to see. I just wish Beltran wasn't on the DL so he could get his standing ovation.

Today Jeter signed items before the game..... The first guy I have witnessed do that in Busch that wasn't a AAA call-up just excited to be there. I'm sure it happens more than that, just when my kids try the same no one is in the mood for Fan interaction whether it's a Card or another Player.

The Braves better not steal any bases, we don't want the Red Sox throwing a temper tantrum again.
He didn't steal the base they let him take it unprotected. Even more reason their argument was stupid.

Speaking of nutjob Red Sox, what does everyone think about Manny Ramirez getting signed as a player/coach? Meanwhile, A-Rod is buried somewhere in baseball purgatory.
To be fair, I am happy to not have to look at A-Rod this year. And we don't really need him at third.

They do need to ban players caught cheating from becoming coaches.

Signing Manny was a bad idea. It is only a matter of time before he does something stupid.

Aren't we all! Solarte has been beyond solid this year at third and at the plate. Great find by Cashman.

And I agree, the players who have been caught shouldn't be allowed to coach. And didn't Manny get caught more than once?

Lots of piling on the Red Sox from fans of teams that didn't win the World Series last year.

It might be a rough year for us, but it's a lot easier to take with a stacked farm, ownership that isn't cheap, and the World Series trophy sitting in Fenway Park. In other words, suck it. :p

As for Manny, I've heard that he's really changed his life in the last few years. Whether or not that's true, if the Cubs think he can contribute something, who am I to judge? It would be great if he really were a more mature man. He was one of the best hitters I've ever seen, I'm sure he has knowledge he can share. It's a better outcome than wasting away in negativity.

It's early in the season yet and much can happen. I spent 2011 and 2013 watching others tell me how hapless the Giants were and that they would never be good again. Get used to the hate, everyone else is jealous if they knock Boston in a weak point so early in the season!

At times in those two years where the Giants appeared to lose their mojo after a great previous year, it looked like it seeing Lincecum become unsteady and Cain losing the dominance he once had, and seeing the Panda look like a has been. I would have never expected a 2012 run to a trophy or first place in 2014 at this time so anything can happen.

I like that my Giants are on top but with Colorado's hitters and LA's pitchers, I wouldn't be surprised if either of those two get on top and start pulling ahead of the pack.

For now I am enjoying things but I don't like, like some twisted Giants fans proclaim, that we are in an "even" year and like 2010 and 2012 we are somehow going to win it all. There are so many other great teams that almost anything can happen. This type of unfound confidence makes As and Dodgers fans hate us as a whole. If our guys can't hit or pitch, it's time to admit it and not make excuses and enter each game as a blank slate.

Besides LAD who are usually third recently, I think the Rays who are fourth, climbing up the ladder is possible and both may have a great year in 2014. I don't see either as outside chances. Other teams not on the radar that can climb up and ahead could be the Reds and Nationals. And for Boston, it would not surprise me to see them have a better second half and at least make the playoffs.

Boston versus SF would be epic! If Giants or As don't make it then I want to see Boston at least go back to back and not let the Yankees be the latest team from the AL East to be a back to back winner. I don't expect three in a row for Boston, but winning it all in 2014 would shut up some conceited Yankees fans, cough, like my NYC born wife. ;)

Who's piling on? Does MacNut even count anymore?! ;)

It's a tough one with Manny - I understand that if he's changed and he does have something to contribute, it's a win-win. But maybe he just shouldn't be allowed to collect a paycheck? The consequences just don't seem to be there for these guys who are getting caught.

I'm also still having a hard time reconciling the treatment of A-Rod and the treatment of everyone who has actually failed a test. And in Manny's case, multiple times.

Well A-Rod didn't crawl up Selig's butt, so he gets punished.

So are we seeing the promised Blue Jays of last year?

I only ridicule the Red Sox out of love, of seeing them lose 10 in a row. :D

You know that I wholeheartedly agree re: A-Rod. His problem is that people don't like him. He's no different from Manny, Ryan Braun, Melky Cabrera, or any of the other people that tested positive in terms of being caught using a banned substance. He's just an overwhelming dick, so people aren't as quick to forgive him. Unfortunately I think his best bet would be to try and fade quietly and enjoy his life. Don't think that's going to happen, though.

Personally, while I would prefer they were eliminated from the game for health and well being reasons, I don't think steroids are akin to beating your girlfriend in public (Brett Myers). Yet the punishment is far more severe. Seems absurd to me.

Or the Marlins from 2 years ago? ;)

But, yes, I think we are. No doubt the offense on that team is the real deal. Buherle is pitching out of his mind right now - if they keep pitching the way they are they're going to be tough to beat.

But it's a long season, and an injury here or there and the whole division could be bounced on it's head. They've been fun to watch so far, though.

The Yankees aren't exactly tearing it up, and are currently looking up at the Blue Jays despite their gluttonous offseason. So save your ridicule for your pitching staff, thanks. :D

We just need to get Sabathia a box of donuts and he will be fine.

This is looking like it will be a 5 game spread from first to last in the division. I could see the whole thing flip a few times between now and September.

So is the division just that bad or just that good that everyone is evenly matched.

I absolutely agree.

Baseball has messed up their handling of steroids from the get go.

And it's crazy how every sport has put drugs/steroids above actual violent activities when punishing players. The priorities are way out of whack.

I suspect the Red Sox will play better than they have been, but my objective view is that this is the bridge year we were expecting last year. Although it would be nice if players started to not suck and we made a trade our two to make a run. No reason not to go for it with a pretty even division (10 game losing streak notwithstanding).

I'm torn though, I've seen good arguments for both buying and selling this year. It is nice to see the Blue Jays playing well. The Rays can go screw, my hate for that team has grown exponentially over the last few seasons. And their offense is not good. Without their pitchers carrying the load, they aren't going anywhere.

Yup. It's horrifying as a woman. Josh Gordon got a 1-year suspension from the NFL for smoking weed. Think Ray Rice will get a 1-year suspension for knocking his fiancee unconscious in an elevator?

Our starting pitching has a hex on it. Losing Nova for the year, then Pineda, then CC was not in the plans!

But our pen has been lights out - speaking of stacked farms! And with the way guys like Phelps have stepped in to eat up those starts it's hard to complain. We could be doing much, much worse with all of the injuries they've had.

Don't get me started! All Ray Rice got was an apology from his girlfriend for her "role" in the incident.

I would love to see NYY and Boston meet up again for ALCS and also see the reactions of you guys on that one. I can't think of anything within any division that brings in so many outsiders to pay attention. While I think LAD and SF would be great in an NLCS, I just love something about Boston versus NY and I am all the way over here on the west coast. And this is with some thinking it's still LAD-SF as best baseball rivalry:

Did the Red Sox get lucky last year in that the division imploded by June. Did they win by default. Is this years team the true team or is this the fluke year?

Luck had nothing to do with taking down the Rays, Tigers, and Cardinals. The Tigers starting pitching staff last year was as good as I've seen in recent memory. I think the Red Sox gelled and played well all at once, and for the most part avoided major injuries. But yeah, that was earned. Guys this year have played below expectations and our pitching staff outside of Lester and Lackey has been kind of a nightmare.

Also, since you all keep talking about the Red Sox, I thought I would share a little video since the Red Sox are honoring the 10th anniversary of the 2004 World Championship!
