Maybe. I will give him credit for that. Peralta lost I believe about $1.8 million during that 50 game suspension. He got $7 million per season pay raise. Now tell me you wouldn't trade that $1.8 million for $7 million..... The payday is what I have a problem with. Won't stop PED use if players still get paydays. The 100 game 1st game offense helps a bit, but more work still needs to be done.

Peralta got lucky. The Cardinals were in desperate need of a shortstop and both the trade and free agent markets for shortstops were thin. If it were another season, he may have ended up signing a minor league deal for 1 million. The timing couldn't really be more perfect. And it's not like he knew he was going to get that deal when he accepted his suspension.

Maybe, but players may see the risk as worth it due to Peralta's payday.

Don't necessarily hold it against Peralta. Anyone would accept the payday. It just shows the risk that cheating brings is still worth it. That's all.

Yeah, that's a fair point.

I do bet Peralta, Braun, Cruz, A-Rod, etc have the cleanest piss in the major leagues now though, none of them would be stupid enough to risk being caught again. The consequences would be too much for a mea culpa to overcome.

at this point I honestly don't even care about steroid use anymore. Braun obviously wasn't "bulking up" like Canseco and McGwire did on roids. He was using it to get past injuries and roids doesn't give players baseball smarts or hitting talent. I'm over it

Agreed. Some of items on the banned substance list are ridiculous. I believe Hydroxycut was actually an item on that list. Give me a friggin break.

So why didn't he just come out and say he did it. Instead he denied it until the evidence was so high he could not deny it anymore.

Cool. I'll have Brian Cashman contact the Brewers so we can dump A-Rod on your team, since you guys are such a forgiving bunch. :D

1. He was already so deep that he probably felt the only way to get out would be to ride the lie all the way through. I'm sure he had lawyers/advisors in his ear telling him they could navigate him through it. So his options were to admit to everything, face a public disgrace, and lose millions of dollars/playing time...or lie, lie, lie, and HOPEFULLY get off, and if he didn't get off, face essentially the same consequences.

2. I think he was slightly delusional and in his mind he had convinced himself that he actually wasn't doing anything wrong. He wasn't taking bulking agents, packing on muscle and speed, trying to spike his numbers. He was taking substances that allowed his body to heal quicker so he could keep performing his job. I'm sure he found ways to rationalize it in his head to the point of thinking that, even though it was "against the rules", what he was doing wasn't "wrong".

Oh goody the rivalry just got good again.

It didn't last year when we stomped our way to a championship? :D

Pine tar doesn't really bother me, but DAMN could he be less obvious about it? It's like blatantly flipping the Red Sox off. After last week he's just...not very smart.

It is a dumb move by Farrell. Now his pitchers will be under a microscope.

We all saw that coming after last time.....

So when is Lackey getting strip searched? :p

You would think someone on the Yankees would have noticed and said something.

Definitely stupid all around. I say start checking the bats!

Maybe Farrell should have had the umps check for the Red Sox offense.:D

LOL. If Lester is ever that obvious, he deserves to be sent off. I mean come on. Every single news outlet and media monkey was talking about it last time. All you have to do is be smart about it. Farrell and the Red Sox were very "it's whatever" about it the first time, because they know lots of pitchers use it. I think this was like "dude, really?"

It's a bridge year, bitch! :D

edit: Why do the Yankees all wear BLACK undershirts? They know their colors are navy, white, and gray, right? So annoying.

No - even the Yankees agree it was colossally dumb by Pineda, and basically forced the Red Sox's hand:

"I think we're all embarrassed," Yankees GM Brian Cashman said. "We as a group are embarrassed that this has taken place. I think Michael is embarrassed. It's just obviously a bad situation, and it clearly forced the opponents' hand to do something that I'm sure they didn't want to do, but they had no choice but to do. Obviously we'll deal with the ramifications of that now."

"Listen, I would want our manager to do what John Farrell did," Cashman said. "Obviously this is a terrible situation that we all witnessed and we're all a part of and we all have ownership to because there was clearly a failure and a breakdown that he wound up walking out of that dugout with something like that. It's just not a good situation."

That being said, he's 25 years old. A kid, basically. He screwed up, and he's going to have to hear about it for a little while. He doesn't need to be shot for it. Hopefully that's the end of that - maybe Tanaka can give him lessons on the subtle art of pine tar. ;)

I think Cashman is full of crap, he is sorry that Pineda got caught, but I wonder if he is mad that he was going for the edge. Of course he will never come out and say we want our pitchers to be their best.

I do think they need to change the rule since it seems like all pitchers use something.

I saw a quote from Napoli (I think on Twitter) who said that basically all the guys use it but you just can't be that blatant about it.

I also read that Joe Girardi said that they talked to him after the last start. From now one, they're going to have to have his catcher search him every inning before going back on the mound.

10 game suspension for Pineda.

If he appeals and it gets reduced, looks like he'll only miss 1 start.

He will most likely only miss one game anyways as they will rearrange the rotation.

Pineda is a dumbass, but there needs to be changes to that rule. The rosin bag is perfectly fine, but it's practically useless on cool, dry nights. Pine tar does nothing but allow you to get a better grip on the ball, and the substance doesn't affect movement in the air.

It does affect movement on breaking pitches, there's no denying that. Better grip allows more break on the pitches.
