It does affect movement on breaking pitches, there's no denying that. Better grip allows more break on the pitches.

Well yeah, I was talking about unnatural movement as a direct result of the substance. I think we can all agree though that Lester using a foreign substance during the World Series last year is a bigger deal than Pineda using it in late April ;)

Man I'd like this guy to get thrown out on his arse. Unbelievable douchery.

You think that's bad?

I'm not denying that other pitchers use it, even Red Sox pitchers. From what managers have been saying over the last two days it seems every pitcher uses it.

I tried so hard not to laugh at that but I failed. He is a douche. Maybe he will give it to the kid in the end.

So while I am happy we're crushing the Red Sox, there should be a mercy rule. I mean when a position player is brought in to pitch, the manager should have the option to just end the game to protect their players..... And it isn't very entertaining to watch. You could tell the Yankees were not taking the at bats seriously. The home plate umpire has a generous strike zone for Carp, etc.

The ump wanted to get the name over like everyone else. Another 5 hour Yankee/Red Sox marathon. It took 2 hours to play 3 innings.

I know hence the generous strike zone. Also why the Yankees didn't move up on that wild pitch. The game lost its meaning once it got to the 9th. Shouldn't Farrell have the option to end the game instead the white flag being sending Carp out to pitch? As the YES commentators stated, several position players have been injured pitching in games like the one last night. One required Tommy John surgery if I remember their comments correctly.

Managers should have that option of ending the game to protect their players once the game like the one last night enters the 8th or 9th inning.

Update to the transfer rule.
Major League Baseball's Playing Rules Committee provided today a clearer interpretation of the play that occurs when a fielder loses possession of a ball while trying to transfer it from his glove to his throwing hand.

The interpretation was discussed and agreed upon by MLB, the MLB Players Association and the World Umpires Association, and beginning with games starting tonight, it will be the guiding principle that umpires use in ruling on the play.

The committee's determination is that an out has occurred whenever a player has complete control over the ball in his glove, and if he drops the ball after opening his glove, it will still be ruled an out. There is no requirement to successfully remove the ball from the glove for it to be an out.

Also, if a player drops the ball while attempting to remove it from his glove in order to make a throw, the umpire will determine whether he had secured it in his glove before attempting the transfer. If the ball has been caught and controlled, it's an out even if the player drops the ball in the process of transferring it.

i caught a few minutes
how many foul balls were hit last night? the wind seemed to be pretty fast

Yanks are not going to have a good weekend

Awesome ending to the mets game last night. Caught the last inning after watching Brooklyn almost blow it

Yeah it's looking tough for the Yanks. With the way their pitching likes to give up HRs, and the fact Pujols has seemed to find his stroke again, and Trout is as dangerous of a hitter as ever.... Definitely looks tough.

It looks like the Red Sox offense has picked up a little bit, as I expected with the return of Victorino and Middlebrooks. Toronto has a terrible pitching staff. The starter today walked 8 through 3 innings.

I'll take 2 / 3 in that series. Especially those last 2 wins. 1 run games with Pujols and Trout on a team is scary, but our pen has been impressive.

And, once again, Tanaka has an impressive start - even though he struggled with some control (NEEDS MORE PINE TAR) he found a way to out of jams and avoid big innings.

it should be a lot more, and with the suspension of the Hitting Coach too

Definitely the hitting coach's fault. Suspend him for 20 games!!
