I got 3 1/2 years use out of my iPad 2.
And I'm sure I'll get the same out of the iPad Air 2.
I see none of the issues the OP complains about.
The new iPad Air 2 rocks.

Just dont put it in your pocket.
It might bend. :)

This forum is full of idiots including the op. Wtf are you talking about. Youre justifying to yourself why you shouldn't get one because you have the air 1. All you screen mongers suck. This forum turns into a nerd complaint forum. Move out of your parents basement and get your **** together. You bash something because you're not buying it. Air 2 kills the the air 1. Anyways whatever. I don't know why I even responded. Just sick of bashers who aren't buying the new one by justifying why the old one is better. It's a ***** tablet that works and is easily the best one out. If you bring up android you are literally a pos In general. /end rant.

Nice rant. This forum is indeed filled with people who turn everything Apple does into something negative. People should actually test Apple's products themselves, and think objectively and reasonably. And, not blindly trust all the overwhelmingly negative subjective opinions in this forum.

Cool story bro.

People are very passionate on here about their tech and fair enough but I can't see why anyone would be surprised that the changes between models aren't as huge as we'd all love to see.

The difference between the iPad 2 and 3 was marginal but of course the screen was better. Wouldn't be enough to make you necessarily chop in a 2 for a 3? Same goes for me having a 3 but not feeling fussed about a 4.

That feeling of having the latest gadget is nice but of course it soon goes when the latest model is released? Does the release of the Air 2 mean the original Air is useless and may as well be used as a coaster??? Not at all, it's still an awesome bit of kit that works well.

In my eyes the difference from one model to another doesn't justify changing every time. Hence my jump from a 3 to the Air 2 is significant.

If the new model doesn't impress, wait for a couple of new models and then you'll be wowed.

The iPad Air 2 release was underpinned by one philosophy:

If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

And right they were. Change, for change's sake is more like Samsung's philosophy, and they've lost 60% of their profits while Apple's have steadily increased year over year.

2015 will probably have the same curved glass edges as the iPhones have now.

Ok but half the things you said are non-issues or haven't happened in my experience and the rest are... well let's just say I really don't feel the magic of Android tablets.

This is my issue right now I do think Apple are slipping on their quality, looks over use, but I dislike Android and hate Android with crappy skins like Amazon and Samsung. So I'm kinda trapped with my 4 until Apple step their game up again. Less fashionista obsession with thinner and thinner and more focus on build quality, a higher resolution, a OLED screen(they have a patent for their own version) and a more durable case build.

Apple seem like they are out of ideas so just rely on a thinner design for something to boast about.

I was all set to buy an ipad air 2 but after all of the complaints and #gates I've gone right off it.

I'll be buying a macbook air when the new ones are released. Max "some" of the specs out and I'll be set. At least this will last me 5+ years and not just 1 or 2 years like the iPad seems to.

The iPad Air 2 with 2GB RAM is the one to get, at least it was for me. My old iPad Air was ok, but I didn't want to put up with the refresh and crash within Safari for another year. Besides, I like the speed and screen on my Air 2 much better.

There is no gates ....people love to find issues . Go buy one yourself and if you don't like it return it and costs you nothing to do so within 14 days

^ This. I could never understand why people let others on the Internet make up their minds about buying a new product.

Lets face it, the iPad Air 2 release is junk.

I don't need to face it, because that's not my opinion. If you feel it's junk, don't buy one.

The screen shows ripples when holding it one handed. How did Apple not discover this in quality testing before production is anyones guess.

I'm sure there are some bad ones out there, but this is not what I'm experiencing.

The battery life is worse and the charger is 10w instead of 12w so it doesn't have improved charging times vs the Air.

If anything, my Air 2, like my iPhone 6 Plus, has actually demonstrated better battery life in standby, by a LOT. Battery life during active usage seems about the same.

The resolution has not been improved, meanwhile Amazon and Samsung both have tablets out with better resolution and screen quality (Amazon has 100% RGB color accuracy, Samsung has OLED which is better contrast/more vivid).

I personally don't like the greenish hues I've seen with Samsung's OLED displays. And while it's nice that Amazon has such a nice screen, they do so much else to cripple the Kindle tablet and phone platforms that their products are of little use to me. Meanwhile, my iPad screen is pretty darned good for what I need it to do.

Tell me Apple,

Apple doesn't respond here, so if you're really expecting a response from them, this is the wrong place. And if you're just being snarky, it's falling flat.

how with your available cash flow larger than most countries are you able to be outplayed on resolution and screen quality by two amateur companies?

My guess is because Apple knows what their user base wants and knows how to deliver on it. And those wants don't always correspond to a spec sheet. And, the sales figures and financial results bear that out. Apple sells everything it makes. Meanwhile, Amazon can't give their junk away.

*Say what you will. This update is just a minor one.

And as with any update, people should make a rational, non hyperbolic decision on what's good for them. There are lots of users with iPad 2s, 3s and 4s whoa re ready to update, and for them, this is a good move. For others maybe wait until the next one. Either way, the iPad Air 2 being "junk" is far from the truth.

I wish that weren't the case, but next year when they up the screen resolution and quality everyone here will be making posts "Should I upgrade to Air 3".

Yep, that's how this forum rolls. And I'm sure someone else (maybe even you) will post an "iPad Air 3 is complete junk, iPad Air 4 is the one to get" thread.

I think people need to stop assuming that they are required, or entitled, to upgrading to a new iPad every year. It's pretty evident that the evolution is a lot more gradual, and the tablets are meant to me more durable. Just like laptops are meant to be upgraded every 3 years or so, and desktops possibly every 4-5 years. Buying one year and then the very next huffing that the next year's version isn't worth the upgrade and "Apple is doomed" because of that, is pretty unrealistic.

Crappy Skins and FYI Amazon isn't a Skin but more of a Forked Version of Android. TouchWiz is fine for the most part with newer phones like the Note 3, S5 and Note 4 and the smaller in between.

Android is garbage

Explain how it is Garbage? Just because you don't like it doesn't make it Gabarge just how a person who loves Android doesn't make ios Garbage. It is called preferences.

2015 is the one to get

Lol, I'm 63. At my age every year 'is the one to get'. Oh to be young again and to not imagine yourself older!!!

Let me give you 'young folks' some advice:

1). Everyone is born dying
2) you're not getting any younger
3) life is shorter than you think. It's amazing how fast it goes by. Don't let 'next year's model will be better' stop you from enjoying what's in front of you right now. Next years model might be better or it might be a disappointment. Who knows.....

No, you shouldn't spend your money unwisely. You do need to save, put in consideration to how you spend your money. But take it from someone who has been there, done that - waiting all the time is just that, spending your short life WAITING.

It's garbage because they have the exact same UI for 11 inch tablets as they do for 4" phones. It's garbage because its insecure, completely. It's garbage because it has malware. It's garbage because it has fewer apps. It's garbage because the apps it does have are poorly coded. It's garbage because it gets new apps long after iOS. It's garbage because the hardware is all over the map. It's garbage because it's not integrated with a desktop OS. It's garbage because you have to buy a new phone to get updates. It's garbage because there is no community. And most of all IT'S GARBAGE BECAUSE THE PEOPLE WHO USE IT ARE JERKS WHO TROLL FORUMS FOR HARDWARE THEY OSTENSIBLY DON'T EVEN USE!

If apple does increase resolution on iPad Air 3 then we're back to the first gen blues. It'll struggle pushing the increased pixels. Not to mention most apps will look bad.

This isn't the iPhone. Devs will take their sweet time updating for iPad if at all. Both this and the above will be problems with any bigger iPad pro that is rumored.

However it makes no sense to see Apple increasing resolution on what is already a retina screen.

You really are an apple fanboy are you and totally wrong. They don't have the same ui because then you can argue the same for iPad and iPhone. It is insecure? What it thinks it is to fat? What malware? I have used android for 3 years now and no malware on my phone. App selection is almost on par with iOS with games being a few less. Hardware differences give you options. And while it is cool to have the integration between desktop it isn't a must have ...yet. I have gotten updates on my android devices while slower it gets them. They also have a community just to name one android central. So I am a "jerk" because I own a Samsung Galaxy note 4 and own an iPad btw. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1414332801.294720.jpg there is a picture of my iPad Air 2 box. Cellular 128gb

I will bet the Air 2 is the top rated tablet for 2014. Any takers? :D

Any device has trade offs. I haven't seen one yet that doesn't. If it isn't the display, it is the battery life, etc. etc.

I think the res is perfect now. It's slightly less then 2k and is great. Battery life will suffer if they offer a sub 4k res

It is garbage because most android makers fork it and load it with bloat ware. And you have to deal with carrier or some store for crap support.

A nexus 6 on the other hand at least comes close. But I see very few people with a nexus phone.

People or non techies just don't care. This is why Apple just releases a Mac mini with no quad core or updatable ram. The only people upset are techies. They're told to shut up because its about what's best for your average idiot nontechie. Not you.
