Ok, don't get too carried away. The Cardinals and Royals are the favorites right now, although I'm pulling for the Cubs. As a Yankees fan, I'm just glad the Blue Jays are cracking.

Yeah, that totally sucks. That being said, the Mets have it easy compared to the Cubs, Cardinals, and Pirates who were all better than the Mets.
Yes the Mets were in the worst division. And had a cake walk to the playoffs. They also loaded up to make the playoffs. Their season probably ended on one of the worst calls ever.

what does that mean? you should explain yourself some more instead of using one liners.
It means if the Mets were asking God for help he ignored them with that botched replay. It seems to go against everything in the rule book.

I didn't know those are rules for knowing the game of baseball.
Thats why the only time you comment is when something bad happens. I can read between the lines, im good at that...Mets got robbed tonite and Utley is a pig

I comment on what I see. I didn't watch Texas destoy Toronto. I could care less about the Cardinals. If you have paid attention to my posts the past few years you would know I love the sport. Yes I am a Yankees fan but that's not going to stop me from talking about the sport. If you can't deal with that tough.

all right, thicker skin fellas, thicker skin.

ok. upon further review.... just saw the replay. i hate that kind of play. but still...

utley's slide was a cheap tactic that all MLBer's use. also back in the day(read: before instant replay) u didn't have to touch the bag on a double play. you could get close, like the mets SS did and then throw to first...

The neighborhood play isn't supposed to be reviewed. I was never a fan of that play but neither of them touched the bag. I think the replay system is getting over used for the wrong reasons.

No, not all MLB'ers use that tactic in the way Utley has. Utley didn't hit the ground for the "slide" until he collided with Tejada, if you look at the replay he was PAST the bag before he started "sliding". That was a TACKLE and he should be suspended for the move (which I believe also means LA can't re-fill his roster spot for this series). Sure, he could have reached the bag so by the letter of the rule it was a legal move but in no way was it a slide, it was 100% intended to take out Tejada. Torre has yet to rule but he HAS admitted that the "slide" was late. I could see the Mets bringing a guy like Robles in from the 'pen to face Utley then promptly plunking him with a 95 MPH heater (notice I don't say in the head), provided the situation would allow for it (large enough lead, start of an inning or 2 out with nobody on and a low-threat batter behind him) but Collins needs to have another pitcher warming as Robles will get promptly tossed from the game.

That said - if this had happened in the regular season, nothing would be done about it if Tejada was the SS involved but if it was Tulo or some other "star" player there would be a rule adjustment the following season. We'll see what happens in the off season but I have a feeling there will be a "Tejada rule" adjustment.

Also, the "neighborhood play" isn't reviewable but somehow the Dodgers convinced the umps to review it anyway.

It is going to get interesting Monday. Do the Mets retaliate, and if they do there is going go be a rumble. I also wonder if Utley gets suspended.

Would the Mets risk beaning him this series or will this carry over until next season?

There will be retaliation but the circumstances need to be right as I noted. If Utley is ever put in on defense, he better hope there's never a take-out situation at 2nd or he might end up on a stretcher also. Alternatively, it would be a pitcher to bean him (but not in the head, NOBODY deserves that) but they shouldn't do it if it would put the game in jeopardy.

I guess it's moot.. Utley was suspended for games 3 and 4 of the series. Not sure if LA is allowed to replace him on the roster or if they have to play with only 24.
