Now if only Blade wasn't a 14" with huge bezels, but a 15.4".... that would be perfect.

As far as MacBook panel lottery, I'm afraid it's not going to improve. Most customers don't even care and Apple needs multiple suppliers due to their production volume. There's also no incentive for either manufacturers or Apple to cherry-pick perfect displays if they can get away without it.

Yes I agree, when you get a good one, Apple's displays kill it. I'm just sick of chronic exchanges. I got lucky with my iPad 9.7 and iPhone 7 on the first try, which was really nice. I purposely don't invest too much in any ecosystem in case I want to leave. You are much deeper in the ecosystem than I am so I see how leaving would be a major pain for you! Thanks for all your threads for people to compare panel types, I found it quite helpful with my devices.

LOL, I totally see how my photo can come off as black and white. It isn't. I happen to have a gray table and couch in the photo is all. I have the Blade with me at my office, happy to shoot another one if you'd like, but it's comparing apples to oranges anyway. Was just making a point that no display is perfect from any company.

No problem! I find panel variations / different manufacturers fascinating. And believe it or not I've gotten less neurotic about it over the years. I think both by luck, having "older" -apple products with good screens that I can fall back on and live happily if I give up the search, and also just not having the will to return a product a crazy amount of times. I don't have a defined # as my threshold but typically one or two these days max. And hopefully none. I accept all screens are unique and by that I mean have some flaws. It just shouldn't be a screen that's a chore to look at. It should be immersive. Assuming functionality and stability are OK, screen is EVERYTHING when it comes to the experience

That's strange, I didn't know the Intel Core stickers came in black and white like that, unless my eyes have just decided to really go south on me today :(

For what it's worth, the brightness uniformity is very nice on that display.

Bezels are bad but tolerable on it, agree. Apple will never improve QC, they are happy to deal with returns (for now). And that's fine, just extremely frustrating. Nuts like us comparing screens are labeled nuts, and such a small minority of consumers. A perfect Seinfeld quote is applicable to my MBP screen woes that most people don't care about and happily move along. He's (average consumer) be-boppin' and scattin', and I'm losin' it!!

I'm happy you're enjoying the Blade, but you posted a black and white photo to demonstrate white uniformity? That's not really how it works... all a black and white photo is good for is determining brightness uniformity, not white.

Per your request, here's another photo with a more colorful background :). Not posting any more photos here, just making a point that nothing is perfect. Happy to discuss Blade vs. MBP experiences over PM for anyone thinking of switching.

Yeah the Blade uses the black Intel sticker and I think Alienware does too. As far as branding stickers go, I like it.

O first realized screen uniformity at my iphone 7. Now i am trying to live with it. But after this, i tried uniformity tests on my two years old macbook air. I found on it too. :(

Why is my screen brighter in the center... should I get a replacement :O this is the first time I bought a retina MacBook and I'm not sure if it's normal

Do you guys think it's acceptable?

go to store and compare it with other models , if there is big difference you know what to do)))
Actually it looks like a great screen in real life... no backlight bleed at all. Just I feel like it's slightly blue on the right and slightly pink on the left but the camera captured otherwise..: anyone knows why?

I've attempted to illustrate what my screen looks like:

Without tint

With tint

Top and bottom 3rd are muddy/yellow, middle 3rd is white as expected.
I feel like I have the same condition with you.. But my one is not that obvious....

I'd say you do too from your screenshot. Seems to be par for the course for the majority of units out there. Personally I think its unacceptable for a laptop that's well over £2300. I can tolerate minor Brightness uniformity issues but not when the top and bottom of the screen are yellow whilst the middle is bright white. I sent mine back for a refund.

Vote with your head - your choice is play the swapout lottery or get a refund. I've done the former many times. Chose the latter this time and I'll continue using my 2014 rMBP for the time being.

Is a display uniformity similar from different viewing angles? Because in real life I can't see the yellow top and bottom but the left side has a slightly pink tint and right side has a slightly blue tint

No, different viewing angles will show different levels of brightness and colour tint. This is normal for IPS displays so don't worry about that.

Bottom line is, if you don't see any issue with your screen or if something you do see doesn't bother you, do nothing and enjoy your laptop......and stay away from forums like this :)

Has anyone run uniformity tests like in i1 Display Pro?

Trying to determine a good white point delta tolerance

My screen is slightly pink on the left and slightly blue on the right also and maybe a little brighter in the left center but it is my third try and I'm keeping it. I tried taking photos but they are awful and don't represent what the screen looks like in real life. Overall the brightness is pretty even and there is no yellow so I can live with this one. My old 2012 rMBP had very slight dinginess in the right bottom corner but otherwise a really nice white screen but I'm not sure you can find one like that this year.

Can you check what screen model you're having now?
System preference -> Display -> Color -> Open profile ->Line 17 -> Model
My model is A030.

Don't know if I should exchange it or not because I realised when I tilt (shake it) from left to right with lid closed.. it makes a rattle sound. And it seemed like others are having this issue too with the display.

You are traveling down a slippery slope. You say the screen looks good, but If you keep taking pictures and shaking it, you might as well take it back now. Do your self a favor on the next one, don't post any pictures. If it looks good just keep it to your self.

Have had two 15" TB rMBP ( 610, A030 ) and both exhibit this behavior, I also see this on Dell's U2516D ( Have confirmed this shift with i1 Display Pro on a few of these ) without the uniformity compensation enabled. It seems for me that only panels using LG's GB-r-LED backlighting show this (slightly blue on the right and slightly pink on the left ). The Dell U U2415H, U2515H both using LG's W-LED backlighting have completely uniform backlights with no color shift. I have a i1 Display Pro and over next couple of days I'll post a white point measurements on my 15" TB rMBP

Thanks for the info! :) Might take a look at the store here to see if all exhibit the same issue.. If all of them do I might settle with this one.

The reason I'm asking here is because I want to know if it's a widespread issue or if it's just me.. Because if it's widespread I wouldn't want to play the lottery game as the screen has no bleeding at all and I'm satisfied (until I came across this thread now I can't unsee the uneven tint) D:
Still crossing my fingers. Gonna look at the local stores here. Will change if the display units doesn't have the uneven tint.

It is very difficult to see uneven tints in an Apple Store under their bright lights. Their computers are all set to maximum brightness also. I opened my first 2 computers at the Apple Store and really couldn't evaluate the screen until I got home.
At home I agree that you can't unsee it, but I'm getting used to it and the computer is great otherwise. It has no cosmetic blemishes, keyboard issues or heat problems and it seems to work perfectly so I'm keeping this one. I suspect most people don't notice uneven screens or don't care. Good luck with your decision.

I exchanged my first 15 because it was making this clicking sound. My replacement has a noticeable uneven tint that I did not notice on the first unit. Not to mention the replacement also has the scratch by the speaker grill. Looks like I'll be chatting in with them tomorrow to try to get another replacement.

Did Apple support make you go to the Genius Bar first or did you get an express replacement?

No, it was an in store exchange. it was like 48 hours after I had picked it up at a different Apple store. I just told them of the problem, showed them a video demonstrating it and said I wanted to exchange it. I was in and out in 5 minutes. This time I may do it through mail, send mine back and then let them send me a replacement maybe it will be a newer stock. I'm going to chat with them tomorrow and see what my options are since I won't be able to stop by another store until after the new year. Since I did get it during the holiday return period I guess I have until the 8th but I'll chat with them tomorrow and see what they say.
