Looks like this morning's chatter about Manning is that he wants to keep playing, though I think he wants to stay with the Broncos he'll have to agree to a large pay cut and the clock is ticking for the Broncos because if they wait too long his current salary becomes guaranteed

Finally some smart judges who see through the BS and are asking the right questions

They probably should have asked the NFL's appellate attorney why he repeated a known lie that Goodell used to justify his absurd suspension of Brady. I get that yesterday was a great day for people obsessed with hating the Patriots, but if these judges overturn Berman's ruling, Goodell will have nearly unlimited power to continue to railroad teams and players the way he did the Dolphins, Saints, and Patriots, among others.

But I get that this is less important to some than seeing New England lose some football games.

Goodell has the power because the union gave it to him.

True, but he's still bound by federal arbitration law.

IMO the NFLPA should refuse to sign the next CBA unless there is specific language requiring a neutral arbitrator. Goodell has proven pretty effectively that, while he might be great at expanding the league and making the owners money, he's grossly incompetent when it comes to enforcing the "integrity of the game" that he loves to blather on about.

The problem is that the union gave him too much power to begin with. They can't start crying foul now when they did this to themselves. The current CBA gives him judge and jury power. This is something they need to change when the new CBA comes up. Since the union agreed to his powers I don't know if that can go to arbitration.

ah man, I really wish he would ride off in to the sunset and go out a champion, one more season of Manning is going to be painful to watch and he'll just tarnish his legacy a bit. This past season was bad but the Superbowl win erases all the bad in peoples minds. Somebody really needs to talk some sense in to him and show him tape from this past season.

Unfortunately this is how Brady will end his career as well. They don't know when to stop, they think they can go on forever.

Well said, and I completely agree. He should just retire and be done with it. The Broncos are giving him time to retire gracefully, but they will cut him before the 9th.

If he comes back, I'd be shocked. Ray Lewis probably had more in the tank than Peyton, but his injuries (although less significant than Manning's) slowed him down and he knew it was time to retire. Fortunately for him he was able to win a Super Bowl. Manning is in a similar position - if you can't be the Peyton of old, there really isn't any point in coming back, especially with another team.

Yeah, based on what I've been reading, he sounds like man not ready to retire, and in a sense that's a sad thing. I mean, while I can understand his love of the game, at some point you cannot compete at the same level. I find it very sad to see old players trying to hang on one more year and look horrid.

Manning is announcing his retirement Monday at Broncos headquarters, Schefter reporting.

Looks like he either came to his senses or those rumors about him still wanting to play were just falsely leaked to build drama

One can only hope - for his sake.

"Smart" judges who lack the ability to understand basic physics.

If these "smart" judges are dumb enough to overturn Berman's ruling when it's been scientifically proven that no deflation ever occurred, they'll look like fools and it will cement Goodell and the NFL as the biggest joke in professional sports.

But hey, we all know how Goodell wants to be Vince McMahon.

It was more than likely that Peyton was going to retire. The reports about Peyton wanting to still play, everyone says that because they physically can, but they're aren't or won't be effective. Respectable decision. It's was fun to watch Peyton play every Sunday. We'll see him in 5 years when he gets his yellow jacket.

I'm glad to hear that he isn't going to try and hang on.

He's is announcing his retirement from the Denver Broncos, but his abilities are available for any other team. :D

If Manning's retirement announcement is coming then it will be sad to see him go but it is definitely the right time for him. I wonder if we will see him back in the NFL soon in a coaching or front office role.

Not at all, it was sad watching him play in all honesty. He lost so much, that he was a shell of his former self.

More likely in front of a television camera.
