Endless and ultimately futile debate about where Manning ranks against the great QBs but it has been interesting to note so many pundits putting Brady and Montana ahead of Manning.

In my view, what has always marked Manning out in his career and puts him above these two is that Brady would not have achieved his success without Belichick and Montana without Walsh. While Brady and Montana have shown themselves to be fantastic executers of the script, Manning not only executed the script he wrote it as well. I doubt Brady or Montana could have taken Jim Caldwell to a Superbowl. Manning had a complete control of his offense in a way few modern QBs do any more.

RGIII is no longer a Redskin, not that its really that surprising. I guess the only surprising thing is that they waited to nearly the deadline to release him.

Ultimately I think the number of SB wins is the reason. They're there to win a superbowl and both Montana and Brady have done that more times then Manning. Of course a Superbowl win is not just because of the QB but the entire team, but fair or not, the rings on Montana and Brady's hand is the reason.

By game play alone you could argue that Brady only has 3 rings. He was really not involved much in his first Superbowl.

If we also use that argument, Peyton only has 1.

Here is an interesting question, who will have more rings, Brady or Belichick.

I don't disagree - it's one way to measure QB success but as with every other way of measuring QB success, ultimately flawed. On that logic, it would be possible to argue that Trent Dilfer and Jeff Hostetler were better QBs than Dans Marino and Fouts and Jim Kelly.

Belichick - on the basis that Belichick already has two more rings than Brady at the moment thanks to being on the New York Giants' coaching staff during their Super Bowl wins in 1986 and 1990. I see Brady retiring with Belichick still as his head coach. So unless Brady leverages his skills as a QB into a successful coaching career like Belichick, I doubt Brady can catch and overtake Belichick now.

Oh I agree, I think Marino was one of the best QBs, but he never got that win. The others you mentioned are great as well, yet came up empty.

DeMarco Murray being traded to the Titans.

Such an unfortunate situation. In hindsight, it would have been best for both the Cowboys and Murray to get a deal done. Cowboys still don't have a running back to replace Murray and Murray is going from one bad team to another. I'm all for players to get the most money possible, especially in the NFL, but this was a mistake from both the Cowboys and Murray.

So, the reality is/was the Cowboys had to tag Dez Bryant because they couldn't agree on a deal. Had they agreed on a deal, Dallas could have tagged Murray. It just wasn't meant to be I guess, which is ridiculous because Dez didn't play under the tag last year, anyway.

Wow, the Eagles are looking to take apart everything Kelly trie (and failed) to build in Philly. I Murray was unhappy but with a new coach and system, I thought he would have wanted to stay there.

And yet, they kept Bradford and payed him big money.

The Bradford signing is somewhat justifiable. He's not worth the money he's getting but what are your options? Bradford is pretty much on the bust side given his draft status but still highly serviceable and could excel if put in the correct system and is better than drafting a QB. Murray has more star power but as it goes, HB's are a dime a dozen.

Also, Calvin Johnson just retired. Feel bad for the guy for having to stay in Detroit his whole career without even sniffing success.

That one is really questionable. I'd much rather have Murray the Bradford.

To me that is a toss up. While Murray did have a good year at Dallas, that was pretty much it. He was on and off the injured list pretty much his entire time with Dallas. That sounds like Bradford. Coin flip for me.

I would scrap both and since we are starting fresh. Give the new head coach a new team top to bottom. It is going to take a year or two, if not more to get the team up and running. I am hoping Management knows and sees this.

Sad to see Johnson retire. He is a great athlete.
Yeah, but his production was sinking and he was dealing with injuries. I'm not surprised, though it would have been nice to see him play a bit longer.

Manning is a great QB, no doubt. But his post season play is sub-par. He rode the coattails of a stellar D to 2 SB rings. That's why most people place him behind those two QB's who not only excel in post season play, but carried the team to victory. Well, Cool Joe didn't have to carry to much, since he had THE best WR of all time (Jerry Rice) and the best DB of all time (Ronnie Lott) as teammates. Getting named SB MVP over the likes of Rice and Lott is a huge accomplishment.

I would place Manning behind Johnny Unitas, Otto Graham and Bart Starr as well.

Sign somebody cheaper. This is just an admission the Pigeons aren't interested in competing.

Easier said than done. Doug Pederson wants a traditional pocket QB.

Top QB's in FA:

  • Brock Osewiler - While he's gaining some outside interest, doubt Elway lets him walk.

  • Ryan Fitzpatrick - Same as Osewiler. Though it wouldn't be a total shock to see Fitzpatrick leave the Jets.

  • Chase Daniels - Only one that makes sense as Pederson was his coach last year. Now if your own coach/coordinator decides to take Bradford over you, what does that say?

  • RG3 - Eagles don't need a scrambling QB and he wouldn't fit Pederson's system.

And then looking at the other free agents, they're either old or just journey QB's.

Obviously the Eagles will look in the draft at later rounds but from what's available, signing Bradford was the correct thing to do. Sure, they could have compiled a package to move up in the draft to pick one of the top QB's in this years draft, but Eagles don't have the luxury to do that if they're going to rebuild after the Chip Kelly era.

Again, Bradford looks to be on the bust-side of things, but he still has the talent to get to the next level. Eagles are willing to gamble on that fact.

Pro football talk has this.
With Peyton Manning retired, an ominous note arrives from James Palmer of NFL Media, who reports that the Broncos have not negotiated with Osweiler’s representativessince making an initial offer to Osweiler several days ago.

This doesn't look good for the defending champs. I wonder if Osewiler is upset he was benched, or if he wants a lot more money then what Denver is willing to pay.
