I absolutely love the F1. Always have since I was a young chubby balloon-boy (the first born always gets filled with cake), sitting on my Dad's lap and watching it wide-eyed, mouth agape.

Amazing last race. Great to see Hamilton win. I was braying like a Tusken Raider when it happened. My Irish ex-housemate who was over -- and hates Hamilton, unsurprisingly -- was pretty salty about the whole affair. Delightfully giving him the Vettel finger-wag didn't help, though.

Looking forward to Silverstone, and hoping for another good result for Button and Hamilton. Couldn't care less about Palmer. Completely rubs me the wrong way and I think he's an appalling driver.

So ... predictions for the race? Got your money on any underdogs?

I predict rain! So it will be whose on the right tyres at the right time.
Hamilton has got to be favourite. But thats only if he gets reliability.

Been installing a wall mounted TV all morning that was supposed to be delivered yesterday.
Finished 10 minutes before qualifying started!

Anyway looks like Hamilton should be on pole judging by Q2. Unless Nico is just saving tyres for tomorrow.
Shame to see Button out in Q1, in what may well be his last British GP.
Kimi leaving it to the last minute. Maybe he's been out celebrating that new contract?

The result might have been a forgone conclusion but Hanilton's disallowed lap did make it a little more exciting.
Max in third could be interesting. If he gets a good start of course.
Mind you I'd expect rain to play some part tomorrow, so that could spice things up a bit.
Button in 17th will certainly be praying for some.

Well as predicted it's rained. Start will be under a safety car, but it's not currently raining, so it's going to be an interesting race. No fuel saving probably and making sure your on the right tyre at the right time.
So hoping for a good race. Especially if those red bulls can get passed Nico!

I'd love for our announcers here in the states to impartial but they are not. They all openly root for Lewie. It's very aggravating.

Fingers crossed no one gets hurt and ... well ****, no standing start. ****.

Really hoping the two Mercs would knock each other out at the start. Oh well. Parade win for Lewie.

If Max holds P2 then I'll take my hat off to him.

This little P2/P3 fight is doing Lewis the world of good and will be eating Rosberg's tires up - he may claim P2, he won't be in a position to challenge for P1

As a Lewis fan, I'm smiling.

Same. Shame Nico jumped Max, but with the radio assist, that may well get reversed.
Max is still the driver of the day for me.

If you look at Lewis' issues in a recent race and the team didn't give him the command he needed, I was very surprised at today's radio calls.

Yes there is a definite favouritism of Nico there. But the stewards need to react, otherwise there will just be open season on radio instructions. Mind you I'm not sure that's such a bad thing. I don't think the rule makes the sport any better to watch. I miss the radio we used to get from Kimi in particular.

Agree completely - I want the guys to race, not programme a computer from the cockpit. Let them have the help and crack on wheel to wheel racing.

But the rule is the rule - Nico should be docked 60 seconds. At least. And I'm obviously not biased!

You just said you were a Lewie fan 3 posts ago. You are biased. You may as well be one of the announcers on FS1.
Nico should be punished but I bet it will be grid positions next race.

Sorry - I should have placed that part in sarcastic brackets.

Yes - I'm thinking 5 grid places realistically. It's a shame, as the car is so good he'll make that back up, but it will hand Lewis the next race as well with a bit of luck!

At least we'll have some clarity on the rule.

I'm not sure 5 grid places next race would prove that much of a deterrent. To me it was obvious he would have lost P2 without help, maybe P3.
Therefore loosing 1 or 2 places would make sense.
Losing 5 places next time out on the grid, could hardly cause him an issue with that car.

One of the more interesting - if not necessarily exciting - GPs I've watched in a while.

Lewis Hamilton is a master in the wet. As he showed again today. But there was obviously something going on in turn One. The number of cars that spun, quite spectacularly there (including Hamilton) was amazing. The coverage here didn't really have an explanation for that corner.

It was pretty obvious that Hamilton was taking it easy over the last 15-20 laps. But again, the US coverage didn't show what happened to Rosberg around 8 laps from the end. He'd been making up time on Hamilton - and then suddenly he'd lost a bunch of it back. Did he spin? I can't see a gearbox problem losing him 5 seconds in one lap.

We still haven't reached the point where the field is really competitive. It still seems to be inevitably Mercedes race to lose. The guys at Red Bull; Ferrari; etc. might make up time with a risk tyre strategy, or by running at 100%. Mercedes doesn't seem to have the insurmountable engine power advantage they had a year ago. But they still seem to lead the second-tier cars by about a second a lap, all other factors being equal.

In terms of Rosberg loosing time, he was trapped in 7th gear and couldn't get out of it. I think the team told him the answer as it was so deadly he would have lost 20+ seconds per lap as revs would have been awful coming out of corners.

As for the corner, I used to work near Silverstone. All I can think is that turn 1 stayed wet for much longer and the drivers didn't give it the respect it needed. It's quiet an odd circuit for that and localised weather in certain track parts often features. It just didn't seem to dry out.

I think it was due to the water running over the track at turn one. Silverstone isn't exactly flat.
As for Nico, I think he also had a problem with selecting the right engine mode as well as a gearbox problem.
Interesting to note there was no derogatory comments from Niki Lauder on this occasion.
I think his favouritism of Nico is funny. He obviously doesn't like Hamilton's rock and roll life style. Perhaps it reminds him of James Hunt!

I'm not totally clear exactly what Nikki Lauda's role is at Mercedes. While I'm sure he brings a tremendous amount of prestige to the team - its not like they'd be a bunch of nobodies without him. The best I can figure is they need a native German-speaker with the credibility to make Rosberg listen to him. Toto Wolf might be the boss - but Lauda has the F1 championships and the scars to yell at Nico when he's messed up.

As for Hamilton? I really try and like him. But there always seems something just a little bit off about him. When he makes his post-race radio comments, he seems as if he's reading from a cue card. His bopping up and down in the paddock after a win seems a little choreographed, as does his ostentatious kneeling prayer in the drivers' room. Of course, the British press are brutal towards any sports or entertainment figure who they think is getting too full of themselves, so I can't say I blame Lewis for sticking to a script.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the season. Like this race, it promises to be interesting; but not guaranteed to be exciting.

Agree I'm not sure what his role is, but some of his comments this year have been a bit strange.

But yes at least Nico is making it interesting this year. Nobody wants to see one guy run away with it, even if they are a Lewis fan like me.
