Not F1 related but I've just been given 2 paddock passes for next weekends MotoGP at Silverstone. I can't make it so going to have to offer them on Facebook and watch my friends fight it out :p

several guys had to drop... poor alonso. he may as well not even start the race.
He barely started qualifying.
Hamilton will be last though as they used several new engine parts rotated so he has all his penalties today.
Qualifying was a lot closer than expected though with Nico engine get out Max and Kimi.
Bad day at the office for Daniel Ricardo (5th) but he'll be starting on the soft, not super soft tyres so should go a bit longer in the opening stint.
Max also became the youngest ever to start on the front row.
As the commentary team put it at the top three interviews, one past world champion, one future world champion. And he wasn't talking about Nico!
Anyway glad F1 is back!

All ready for Spa then.
Hope to see Hamilton battling his way through. Could be fun at the front with the different tyre choices.
Hope Max can spoil Nico's fun.
[doublepost=1472386615][/doublepost]Great race for the carbon fibre sales people.
One crash after another.
Hard to see Nico loosing this one after Ferrari's and Max have all had issues.
[doublepost=1472387927][/doublepost]Red flag to repair the tyre wall.
Brings Lewis right back into it.
Could be a fun restart.
Either way a podium is on for him now. Currently 5th and no offence none of the cars in front should offer too many challenges. Especially Force India and McLaren.

I was frustrated with the turn one fiasco as I would of liked to see the battle between Max, Kimi and Vettel; wanted to see how much the gap has closed to Mercedes.

Other than that it was a good race but a few things came to mind.

Kimi may just have to let a crash between him and Max happen, the stewards seem to be turning a blind eye to Max's antics and have not even given him a warning (change of racing line).

I noticed a driver weaved to break the tow but I recall Hamilton getting a stewards warning for this previously and surprised the stewards did not apply the same response.

Sergio Perez is driving well and I hope Force India can develop that car further.

I think they see Max as the golden goose of the next generation and they don't want to rock the boat.
I certinly think someone needs a quiet word. We all want to see exciting racing, but not dangerous racing.

I agree, he's lucky he pulling these antics with more experienced drivers but him and Kimi sort of remind me of Massa and Hamilton, where I'm now thinking one of the motives for Massa being extra stubborn to Lewis on the track was to make a point, which after that comedic season definitely worked (between them two anyway).

Button probably has it if he wants it. If he doesn't, then I would guess Perez as he's unlikely to get a seat at Ferrari when Kimi leaves. Then again, if Bottas replaces Kimi at Ferrari, then that would open up two seats at Williams for Button and Perez.

I believe Button is the man for Williams. That said will next year be the year Honda finally get competitive with all the rule changes?
Either way Button has about one more roll of the dice?

I think now is a good time for McLaren to say goodbye to Button with VanDoorne taking his spot.

ha! my bad. I thought you meant he was only going back one spot. he'll still finish on the podium... ;)

So I'm not getting any props for this ...?

Got this weeks lottery numbers?
I think the Ferrari shinanigins helped a lot.
Mind you think he'll get more than just a podium tomorrow! Qualifying just about to start and short of incidents it's hard to not see a Merc 1-2 today and tomorrow.
I bet Max doesn't modify his driving either after the little word from Charlie Whiteing on Thursday.

So qualifying was predictable. But the Ferrari engine up grades have given them the edge over RBR. Now it could be because it's a power track, or maybe for the rest of 2016? Who knows.

But the big news is Button will not race in 2017 but has signed a 2 year contract at McLaren as reserve driver and ambassador with an option on the 2018 race seat.
But let's be honest that seat will only be available if either the 2017 car is still not competitive and Alonso ups and leaves, or Steffal Vandoorne proves to be not up to scratch and no one else is available.
So looks like another true gent will be absent in 2017.
Wish him all the best in his future projects.
