I was one of the people who commented that my "g" key got fixed after a while. My post was about an issue that arises when the computer gets hot from extended use. To my knowledge, that doesn't go away. Am I missing something?

I just messaged you. I think you might be experiencing a different issue than most folks here, which I and some others have had: certain keys make a very high pitched click noise which is remarkably annoying, typically only when the computer is warm.

Here's the thread for this specific keyboard issue: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...high-pitched-keyboard-clicking-sound.2022399/

Here's a video of the issue:

My problem was the space bar not registering when hit at either end. Life's too short, so I returned it.

I already wrote on an other thread but this one seems more active.

My "enter" key (on a Swiss layout, the "big" enter key like in all none US keyboard) feels really different compare to the other keys. I have a clicky feeling when I type but with the enter key it's like weak, flabby. If I touch the key on the side, I have almost no "click" and at the center a bit but nothing compared to the others. It frustrated me each time I hit this key... The space bar also have a different feeling but it's "ok".

Does someone have the same problem on a none US keyboard ?
Thanks in advance !

PS: Also I do not live near an apple store, is it ok to maybe exchange after 2 weeks ?
I have a US model 13" TB MBP and my enter/return key is "mushy" feeling with almost no click sound compared to the other keys. I had two 12" MacBooks before that didn't have any keyboard issues. I really don't want to return this one if I don't have to. Too much hassle to set it all up again. But if it gets worse, I'll be taking a trip to the Apple Store again.

Not sure if anyone has suggested it, do a SMC reset . I had a similar issue with my 2015, it fixed it

I really like the new keyboard as well - I think it's an improvement over the old design (both the 12" MB and the older chiclet)

That being said, my 13" w/TB definitely has had some funky stuff happen - the shift key gets sticky sometimes, certain keys feel noticeably different/make more or less noise than others. It's not a problem right now, and it doesn't really impact typing, but it is very different from the 15" MBPr that it replaced.

I'm more concerned about the long term longevity now - having a semi-working keyboard is the most frustrating thing in the world, don't want to be caught somewhere and suddenly not be able to use my 'r' key properly.
after 2 months my keyboard died completely. AppleCare refused to work with my circumstances now I'm stuck buying an external kb at my own expense. for a 4000 use machine I expect better service. been with apple since 87. thinking about leaving over this. most disappointing

So this is a common defect? Not very comforting ...
keyboard issues are very common
What would you like Apple to do?
ship my computer via Fedex from here and send me a replacement, or even fix and return. they told me they can't do international shipping, which is bs given they shipped me the machine directly from china. they can do international shipping they are closing not to

Might be worth contacting the head the company. I don't keep track of this, but my understanding is that if you email Tim Cook someone from customer help will contact you, and they try to be accommodating. I imagine the email address is online, or someone here probably knows it. Hope you can get it fixed.

good idea. if anyone knows the email please let me know and ill root around as well. given it came on all of a sudden I'm not convinced it is hardware. most likely, but given the tech guy didn't know about the touch keyboard I'm skeptical about his overall competence

I have the same problem with the keyboard.... and it is brand new, I mean it is a keyboard, in one year it will be useless :)

they gave me 1 week to think if i want a replacement, but maybe XPS is better solution until
Apple returns to normal keyboard.

Well, it is made in China...

I was on Dell, this was a switch to magic Mac world.

Ha, well it would be magic to put a "normal" keyboard on a current MBP. A normal keyboard doesn't exist on any current mainstream laptop in terms of what non-laptop keyboards are like, but if you like the one on the Dell, and it's important to you, your decision is a simple one.

I dropped Dell back in the early 2000's, due to constant keyboard failures with their laptops. They would just mail out a kit to you to have you do the replacement job at home. It was novel the first time or 3, but it got old fast. All the manufacturers seem to go through phases, which I guess isn't surprising, since the same players, Compal, Quanta, Foxconn, Wistrom, etc. are in play from brand to brand.

I am currently having this problem with my "k" key.
Since reading this thread, I have decided to just press it ~ 100-200 times which has made the issue way more rare.

Now it only happens when my MBP is "cold" (sitting in my bedroom all night in sleep mode). If it has warmed up (like, if I launch some game or something and let it warm up), it registers perfectly every single time...
Then it happens quite a lot (the first 10 presses don't get recognized at all sometimes).

In very, very, very rare cases the k key registers double.

Do you reckon it just needs some more "breaking in" for it to work in a cold state as well?

Also, the fact that this is temperature dependant means it must be a rather interesting mechanical issue...

On another note: Sometimes the Z key feels weird but it always works perfectly.
Exactly in the same situation.... well. Can't be bothered to exchange it for that intermittent "issue"
